Bhishma

In the epic Mahabharata, Devavrata also known as Gangaputra and Bhishma (Sanskrit: भीष्‍म) was well known for his grueling celibate pledge, the eighth son of Kuru King Shantanu, who was blessed with wish-long life and had sworn to serve the ruling Kuru king and grandfather of both the Pandavas and the Kauravas. He was an unparalleled archer and warrior of his time. He also handed down the Vishnu Sahasranama to Yudhishthira when he was on his death bed (of arrows) in the battlefield of Kurukshetra.He also belonged to the Sankriti Gotra.

Etymology

In Sanskrit, the word Bhishma (भीष्म) means 'terrible' or 'dreadful'.

Anjali Devi

Anjali Devi ( pronunciation ; 24 August 1927 – 13 January 2014) was an Indian actress, former model and producer in Telugu and Tamil. She was well known for her role as the mythological Sita in Lava Kusha as well as for the titular roles in movies like Suvarna Sundari and Anarkali.

Early life

Anjali Devi was born in Peddapuram, East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh, India, as Anjamma. She changed her name to Anjani Kumari when acting in dramas. Later, director C. Pullaiah changed her name to Anjali Devi.

Career

As actress

She was a theatre artiste before venturing into movies. Her debut film role was as Lohitasya in Raja Harishchandra in 1936. Her first movie as a heroine was Kashtajeevi by L. V. Prasad in 1940, but that movie was abandoned after three reels shooting. Later, C.Pullayya discovered her and gave her the opportunity to star as Mohini in Gollabhama. Based on her acting ability and looks, she became a star overnight in 1947. She eventually acted in more than 350 Telugu films and a few Tamil and Kannada films as the heroine.

S. Rajeswara Rao

Salur Rajeswara Rao (Telugu: సాలూరు రాజేశ్వరరావు) (11 October 1922 – 25 October 1999) was an Indian composer, multi instrumentalist, conductor singer-songwriter, actor, music producer, and musician known for his works predominantly in South Indian cinema. Regarded as one of the finest music composers, Rao's works are noted for integrating Indian classical music in Telugu cinema for over half a century.

In his recordings, Rao pioneered the use of light music in Telugu cinema; "Thummeda Oka saari", "Kopamela Radha", "Podarintilona", "Rave Rave Koyila", "Challa Gaalilo" and "Paata Paduma Krishna" were all written by his father. Rao's most rewarding assignments came from Gemini Studios, which he joined in 1940 and with which he remained for a decade.

After leaving Gemini, he received an offer to provide music for B. N. Reddy's "Malleeswari" in 1950; the song was a hit. "Vipranarayana", "Missamma" and a host of other musical hits – more than a hundred in Telugu most of which won the National Film Awards for best film(s), and Tamil and a few in Kannada – followed. When Vijaya's Missamma (originally a Telugu film) was remade as Miss Mary in Bollywood, the film's soundtrack retained one of Rao's compositions.

Koteswara Rao

Koteswara Rao (born c. 1927) was a principal of the Regional Engineering College, Warangal which is now National Institute of Technology, Warangal

Rao was born in Sangamjagrlamudi, a village located near Tenali, Andhra Pradesh. He pursued a degree in civil engineering from a college in Guindy, Madras in 1951.

He joined Andhra University as a junior lecturer in 1955 and later engaged in post graduation studies and pursued his masters from the University of Iowa in 1960. And completed PhD in 1963.

Rao was appointed as a principal of the Regional Engineering College at Warangal (RECW), and was principal during its transition to National Institute of Technology, Warangal in 1986.

He was also appointed as a member of the committee constituted by central government for enhancing quality of graduation in engineering. The committee advised the government on the national regulatory exam for graduate entrance, the Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineers.

Adurthi Subba Rao

Adurthi Subba Rao; born 16 December 1912 - 1 October 1975), was an Indian film director, cinematographer, screenwriter, editor and producer known for his works predominantly in Telugu cinema. Rao is widely regarded as the intellectual fountain head of Indian drama films. He has also directed bollywood, Tamil and Kannada films. He has garnered ten National Film Awards.

Nammina Bantu received critical reception at the San Sebastián International Film Festival. Most of his films have been featured at various international film festivals like Tashkent Film Festival, Moscow International Film Festival, and International Film Festival of India. Subba Rao's Biography has been published by veteran actor Krishna, who made his Telugu film debut under the direction of Subba Rao. Veteran director K. Viswanath has worked as an associate director of Subba Rao for many years. sThe Telugu film chamber of commerce has instituted the Adurthi Subba Rao Award in his honor.
