Howard "Howie" Morris (September 4, 1919 – May 21, 2005) was an American comic actor and director who was best known for his role in The Andy Griffith Show as Ernest T. Bass.
Morris was born to a Jewish family in The Bronx, New York, the son of Elsie and Hugo Morris, a rubber company executive. During World War II he was assigned to a United States Army Special Services unit where he was the First Sergeant. Maurice Evans was the company commander and Carl Reiner and Werner Klemperer were soldiers in the unit. Based in Honolulu, the unit entertained American troops throughout the Pacific.
He came to prominence in appearances on Sid Caesar's Your Show of Shows (a live sketch comedy television series appearing weekly in the United States, from 1950 to 1954). Morris appeared twice in 1957 in episodes of the short-lived NBC comedy/variety show The Polly Bergen Show.
Although Morris was a classically trained Shakespearean actor, he is best remembered for playing the wily and over the top "mountain man" character Ernest T. Bass on The Andy Griffith Show. Also, he played George, the TV mechanic in the episode: "Andy and Helen have their Day" on the Andy Griffith show. He had lampooned southern accents while in the army at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He starred in one of the more comical early hour-long Twilight Zone episodes, "I Dream of Genie". Other roles included that of Elmer Kelp in The Nutty Professor, a movie studio clerk in the short film Star Spangled Salesman, and an art appraiser in an episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show. He also had appeared in several Broadway shows including the highly regarded 1960 revival of Finian's Rainbow as Og the leprechaun opposite Bobby Howes as Finian. He played the role of Schmidlap in Way... Way Out and appeared in the 1962 movie, Boys' Night Out starring Tony Randall, Kim Novak and James Garner.
Tales In The Oral Tradition with Howard Morris 1985
[From "Kovacs Corner" on YouTube.com] - Before video tape, when a live prime time television series went on mid year hiatus, the networks would broadcast "summer replacements". During the year 1957, "The Ernie Kovacs Show" was the summer replacement program for "Caesar's Hour". Earlier known as "Your Show of Shows", it starred the legendary TV comedian Sid Caesar, with co-stars Carl Reiner and the late Howard Morris. With a writing staff that included among others Mel Brooks, Neil Simon, Danny Simon and Mel Tolkin, it was one of the premier comedy shows of it's time. This particular sketch satirizes one of the most popular programs of it's day "This is Your Life" which starred Ralph Edwards and it is, in my opinion, one of the funniest comedy sketches ever performed on television. Howard M...
Ernest T. Bass tries to join the Army. Howard Morris as Ernest T. Bass.
For the first time since it originally aired almost 50 years ago, here is the Emmy-winning 1967 TV special that reunited the stars and the writers of "Your Show of Shows" for an hour of absolutely brilliant comedy, start to finish. Everyone is in top form from the first sketch, in which we learn that the entire special might never have happened if the cast hadn't all bumped into each while doing their grocery shopping. The show climaxes with a reprise of the famed Gallipacci sketch from "Caesar's Hour", this time with Imogene playing the role originally played by Nanette Fabray. The color videotape of this special still exists, but whether we'll ever see it in our lifetimes is doubtful. In the mean time, we're lucky to have this B&W; kinescope copy available, which was released on a...
this is a message Howard Morris left for me,one of many.
[From "Kovacs Corner" on YouTube.com] - He is perhaps not considered as "avant garde" as Ernie Kovacs, nonetheless Sid Caesar (along with co-stars Imogene Coca, Carl Reiner, Howard Morris, and Nanette Fabray) created two of the most popular and funny comedy shows during the 1950's, "Your Show of Shows" and later "Caesar's Hour". It is ironic that Sid was chosen by director Stanley Kramer to replace Ernie as the character "Melville Crump" in the movie "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World".
Final case against Howard Morris don wins the case and Howard still thinks he's not at fault.. What a dumb-ass

An interesting and likable little thriller from 1958, though, in style, it could well be mistaken for a ‘quota-quickie' from ten years earlier. The film shows Lana Morris off to good effect - a sadly underrated actress, who very often found herself in bit parts or working-class roles, but went on to do much TV work and finally found possibly the best part in her career as ‘Heléne' in the superb TV series of "The Forsyte Saga" in 1967. The ‘indiscretion' of the title is when Morris ‘secretly' visits her ex-fiancée who is going abroad, but then happens to witness a murder on the staircase and does her best to cover the fact the she was at the building at all to protect her husband's feeling as he never like the ex in the first place. There's nothing particularly difficult to follow and the c...
Watch on LabRoots at http://labroots.com/webcast/id/663 The assessment of serum lipid and lipoprotein levels is a common procedure which affects the management of the risk of atherothrombotic cardiovascular disease (CVD) in large numbers of patients. Traditionally, this led to interpretive comments based on fasting levels of total and HDL cholesterol and calculated or direct measurement of LDL cholesterol (LDL-C). Recent developments have encouraged a broader perspective in which lipid results are considered in the context of other clinical factors. A patient-centred approach favours the consideration of a range of clinical factors, few of which are provided on test request forms. It is increasingly appropriate for lipid results to be discussed in a consultative fashion so that these addit...
Andy Griffith, Ron Howard, Don Knotts, Jim Nabors and Rodney Dillard sit in a court room set and talk about the show and how the show affected their lives and how others react to them when they see them now. Archive footage is shown of their favorite moments and of those who have died that were part of the show. Ron Howard walks with Andy Griffith on the road that opened the show. Ron, at age 49 whistles the theme song and throws the rock just as he did as a little boy, and comparative footage is shown. After they finish talking they all hug. Andy Griffith turns the lights out and the show ends.

What if Fran Drescher, Jace Hall and Howard J. Morris teaming up with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Productions (in the fourth time) to make a show on The CW? If they did, these are the closing logos that would most likely be used.

Isaac Sidney "Sid" Caesar (September 8, 1922 – February 12, 2014) was an American comic actor and writer, best known for the pioneering 1950s live television series Your Show of Shows, a 90-minute weekly show watched by 60 million people and its successor, Caesar's Hour, both of which influenced later generations of comedians. He also acted in movies. Caesar was considered a "sketch comic" and actor, as opposed to a stand-up comedian. He also relied more on body language, accents, and facial contortions than simply dialogue. Unlike the slapstick comedy, which was standard on TV, his style was considered "avant garde" in the 1950s. He conjured up ideas and scene and used writers to flesh out the concept and create the dialogue. Film: Tars and Spars The Guilt of Janet Ames It's a Mad, ...
