Bhutan News Service
Bhutan News Service, abbreviated as BNS, is the first news agency of Bhutan. It is run as an independent news agency by Bhutanese refugee journalists since 2004 from Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. This is, probably, first of its kind considering a very few refugee media or journalism in exile. The agency is solely operated by refugees who are mostly born or brought up in refugee camps and without previous media experiences.
When over 100,000 of Bhutanese refugees started taking shelter in UN-administered refugee camps of Jhapa and Morang districts in eastern part of Nepal, there was a need of a vocal media in the refugee community. Several attempts were made by persons of various backgrounds to keep the journalism works going. However, survival of those media was not easy due to lack of funding, and they died one after the other.
The Bhutan News Service was founded in 2004 by a small group of Bhutanese refugee youths, who during the time believed that journalism was a noble means to keep community informed and continue advocating the refugee issue. Most of the exiled publications were shut down, in particular following crunch financial assistance and or due to lack of human resources to continue volunteering without anything in return. Therefore, the news service emerged in as an alternative means to replace most of those publications, if not all. Initially, the works were limited to simply blogging. From 2006, BNS went online through its own news portal.

Bhutan (/buːˈtɑːn/; Dzongkha འབྲུག་ཡུལ Dru Ü, IPA: [ʈʂɦu yː]), officially the Kingdom of Bhutan, is a landlocked country in South Asia at the eastern end of the Himalayas. It is bordered to the north by China and to the south, east and west by India. To the west, it is separated from Nepal by the Indian state of Sikkim, while farther south it is separated from Bangladesh by the Indian states of Assam and West Bengal. Bhutan's capital and largest city is Thimphu.
Bhutan existed as a patchwork of minor warring fiefs until the early 17th century. At that time the lama and military leader Ngawang Namgyal, the first Zhabdrung Rinpoche, who was fleeing religious persecution in Tibet, unified the area and cultivated a distinct Bhutanese identity. In the early 20th century, Bhutan came into contact with the British Empire and retained strong bilateral relations with India upon its independence. In 2006, based on a global survey, Business Week rated Bhutan the happiest country in Asia and the eighth-happiest in the world.

It is currently unclear whether Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was on board the helicopter that state media say experienced a hard landing. In South Korea, K-pop stars have fame, fortune and millions of female fans. But some led a double life, inhabiting a hidden world where videos of women being drugged, assaulted and humiliated were shared. This #BBCEye documentary tells the story of the female journalists who took on the task of investigating the secret chat groups of prominent K-pop stars - and paid a high personal price.
‘Molka’ is the Korean term for secretly taking explicit photos or videos without consent. It’s a crime that’s increased elevenfold in the last fifteen years in South Korea. Three friends, all successful K-pop stars, were sharing images in which unconscious women were sexually assaulted. Some of the messages contained evidence that two of the stars, Jung Joon-young and Choi Jong-hoon had subjected a woman to extreme sexual violence.
Their crimes would never have been discovered had the phone data of Jung Joon-young not been leaked. The information eventually ended up in the hands of Korean journalist Kang Kyung-yoon, who began a painstaking process of verifying hundreds of explicit photos and videos. The scandal also involved a top Gangnam club, Burning Sun, where another of the friends, Big Bang star Seungri, was a DJ and CEO. Women were being drugged inside the nightclub, and sexually assaulted by men attending the club. Kang and fellow-journalist Park tell the story of their investigation and how they became the targets for exposing the stars.

As a Wanderer for G Adventures I got the chance to travel around Bhutan to explore monasteries, fortresses, temples, the food, traditions, even the nightlife and with that develop a deeper understanding of the culture. In combination with a proper 4 day trekking adventure in the Himalayas along the Druk Path Bhutan simply blew me away.
With this video I give you an introduction to traveling and things to do in Bhutan, I explain why the Bhutan visa has such a high price tag and why it is only possible to explore the country on a tour. I take you with me on the demanding Druk Path trek and show you around all the major sights in Thimphu, Punakha and Paro including the hike up to the popular Tiger’s Nest monastery.

In South Korea, K-pop stars have fame, fortune and millions of female fans. But some led a double life, inhabiting a hidden world where videos of women being drugged, assaulted and humiliated were shared. This #BBCEye documentary tells the story of the female journalists who took on the task of investigating the secret chat groups of prominent K-pop stars - and paid a high personal price.
‘Molka’ is the Korean term for secretly taking explicit photos or videos without consent. It’s a crime that’s increased elevenfold in the last fifteen years in South Korea. Three friends, all successful K-pop stars, were sharing images in which unconscious women were sexually assaulted. Some of the messages contained evidence that two of the stars, Jung Joon-young and Choi Jong-hoon had subjected a woman to extreme sexual violence.
Their crimes would never have been discovered had the phone data of Jung Joon-young not been leaked. The information eventually ended up in the hands of Korean journalist Kang Kyung-yoon, who began a painstaking process of verifying hundreds of explicit photos and videos. The scandal also involved a top Gangnam club, Burning Sun, where another of the friends, Big Bang star Seungri, was a DJ and CEO. Women were being drugged inside the nightclub, and sexually assaulted by men attending the club. Kang and fellow-journalist Park tell the story of their investigation and how they became the targets for exposing the stars.

A helicopter in a convoy carrying the Iranian president has been involved in an accident, state media is reporting.
It is currently unclear whether Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was on board the helicopter that state media say experienced a hard landing.
The Interior Minister said rescuers were still trying to reach the site due to the difficult weather conditions.

The party of Bhutan's former prime minister Tshering Tobgay won general elections with nearly two-thirds of seats in parliament, local media reported Tuesday, based on preliminary results from each constituency.
Tobgay's People's Democratic Party (PDP) "wins the 2024 National Assembly general elections with 30 seats" while the Bhutan Tendrel Party (BTP) took the remaining 17, The Bhutanese newspaper reported.

As a Wanderer for G Adventures I got the chance to travel around Bhutan to explore monasteries, fortresses, temples, the food, traditions, even the nightlife and with that develop a deeper understanding of the culture. In combination with a proper 4 day trekking adventure in the Himalayas along the Druk Path Bhutan simply blew me away.
With this video I give you an introduction to traveling and things to do in Bhutan, I explain why the Bhutan visa has such a high price tag and why it is only possible to explore the country on a tour. I take you with me on the demanding Druk Path trek and show you around all the major sights in Thimphu, Punakha and Paro including the hike up to the popular Tiger’s Nest monastery.
