"Down Yonder" is a popular song with words and music by L. Wolfe Gilbert. It was first published in 1921.
Gilbert had written the lyrics for the 1912 song "Waiting for the Robert E. Lee" (for which Lewis F. Muir wrote the music). In "Down Yonder," Gilbert brought back four of the characters from the earlier song—Daddy, Mammy, Ephram and Sammy. However, the lyrics of "Down Yonder" are relatively obscure because the song has usually been performed as an instrumental.
Versions which charted in 1951 included those by Del Wood, by Joe ´Fingers´ Carr, by Champ Butler, by Lawrence (Piano Roll) Cook, by the Freddy Martin orchestra, by the Frank Petty Trio, and by Ethel Smith.
The recording by Del Wood was released by Tennessee Records as catalog number 775. It first reached the Billboard magazine Best Seller chart on August 24, 1951 and lasted 25 weeks on the chart, peaking at #4.
The recording by Joe ´Fingers´ Carr was released by Capitol Records as catalog number 1777. It first reached the Billboard magazine Best Seller chart on October 12, 1951 and lasted 17 weeks on the chart, peaking at #14.

Roy Clark Jody and the Kid Live On Hee Haw 1980 Kris Kristofferson Jody And The Kid Lyrics She would meet me in the mornin', on my way down to the river Waitin' patient by the Chinaberry tree With her feet already dusty, from the pathway to the levee And her little blue jeans rolled up to her knees I'd pay her no attention, as she tagged along beside me Tryin' hard to copy everything I did But I couldn't keep from smilin', when I'd hear somebody sayin' Looky yonder there goes Jody and the kid Even after we grew older, we could still be seen together As we walked along the levee holdin' hands For as surely as the seasons, she was changin' to a woman And I'd lived enough to call myself a man And she often lay beside me, in the coolness of the evenin' Till the morning sun was shinin' on my...
Back in 1985, I had the pleasure of driving Roy Clark when he had a rare return to the city of his birth and youth, Washington, D.C.. He was great..and so patient with me as I asked a thousand questions over the few days we spent together. I enjoyed making him laugh, (singing silly at the airport) and I'm proud he came from the same place I was born! RIP Roy Clark, you are flying home to Jesus now!

We’re not as young - as we used to be
But baby - I don’t mind
'Cause growing with you - is gonna be
Full of life and good times.
And if I had it to do all over again I’d do it with you
I wouldn't want to miss a thing that we’ve been through
Baby nothing can compare to the good love that we’ve
shared
And if I had to do it all over again I’d do it with you.
Looking back on life - I can’t complain
It ain’t been easy - but don’t you know
We still had sunshine - even when it rained
And we’ve shared a love - that few have known.
And if I had it to do all over again I’d do it with you
I wouldn't want to miss a thing that we’ve been through
Baby nothing can compare with the good love that we’ve
shared
And if I had to do it all over again I’d do it with you.
^repeat Chorus
And if I had to do it all over again I’d do it with
