Valentine Dyall (7 May 1908 – 24 June 1985), the son of veteran actor Franklin Dyall and his first wife Mary Phyllis Dyall (née Logan), was an English character actor. His very distinctive sepulchral voice made him especially popular as a voice actor and he was known for many years as "The Man in Black", the narrator of the BBC Radio horror series Appointment with Fear.
In 1934, Dyall appeared with his father at the Manchester Hippodrome in Sir Oswald Stoll's presentation of Shakespeare's Henry V, playing the roles of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Captain Gower and a cardinal of France. He also appeared in one movie with his father, the 1943 spy thriller Yellow Canary starring Anna Neagle and Richard Greene; Dyall's part was that of a German U-boat commander attempting to kidnap a British agent from a ship in the Atlantic, while his father played the ship's captain. In the same year, he played a small role as a German officer in The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp and, the following year, played the Duke of Burgundy in Laurence Olivier's 1944 film rendition of Henry V.
I cannot believe that this version of Poe's masterpiece is not on here, so I am happy to contribute this to the common source! I grew up with this cassette and Dyall's inimitable tones. If I get likes for this, I will post 'The Black Cat' and 'The Pit and the Pendulum', also!
Spike Milligan - A Series of Unrelated Incidents at Current Market Value (1961). Spike stars with Bob Todd, Bill Kerr, Graham Stark, Valentine Dyall, Sheree Winton & a final TV outing for mustachioed 'token Italian' comedy actor Mario Fabrizi, who died 18 months later, aged just 38.
"The Ghost of Rashmon Hall' (a.k.a "Night comes too soon") was a short, fairly eerie ghost story about a young couple who soon come to realize that their new home maybe not quite what it seems. Valentine Dyall plays the mystery stranger who tells the story to an assembled group of guests. This film was shown once on C4 tv in 1992, but since then has disappeared back into obscurity, with no further screenings or VHS or dvd release. The copyright status of this film is unclear, but if a copyright holder objects I will remove this post immediately.

Source: https://www.spreaker.com/user/thinkslinger/appointment-with-fear-5-18-1944 Appointment With Fear "The Clock Strikes Eight" This is the tale of the Barton Case, which involves the pending execution of one Helen Barton for the murder of her fiancee. The problem is that she claims to be suffering from amnesia, but nobody believes her. When her memory apparently returns a few hours before her scheduled death, she claims innocence and things get complicated. Chilly! Ahhh!!! Background: "Suspense" was one of the best radio programs of all time, and it was simply too good not to copy. The other American networks had to create their own imitations, but the BBC was able to copy the program almost directly, changing little more than the title and the host. The result was "Appointment Wi...
Hello, welcome and where am I? Oh yes another great trouser-filler from the host with the most...bones, Nigel Honeybone from that frightful delightful television show THE SCHLOCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW. Sit back as I present Nigel as he presents that wonderful British tourist trap known as Horror Hotel, starring two of the tallest baritones ever to grave celluloid, Christopher Lee and Valentine Dyall. Although made in England, Horror Hotel is set in the USA, and you can sometimes hear the actors slip in and out of their accents. It's easy to make fun of its clichés, but the truth is Horror Hotel created many clichés that were later done to death and, at its best, contains some genuinely creepy scenes and a plot twist or two. But I should warn all you practicing witches out there, I don't th...
