The London Eye is a giant Ferris wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames in London. Also known as the Millennium Wheel, it has also been called by its owners the British Airways London Eye, then the Merlin Entertainments London Eye, then the EDF Energy London Eye. Since mid-January 2015, it has been known as the Coca-Cola London Eye, following an agreement signed in September 2014.
The structure is 443 feet (135 m) tall and the wheel has a diameter of 394 feet (120 m). When erected in 1999 it was the world's tallest Ferris wheel. Its height was surpassed by the 520 feet (158 m) tall Star of Nanchang in 2006, the 541 feet (165 m) tall Singapore Flyer in 2008, and the 550 feet (168 m) High Roller (Las Vegas) in 2014. Supported by an A-frame on one side only, unlike the taller Nanchang and Singapore wheels, the Eye is described by its operators as "the world's tallest cantilevered observation wheel".
It is Europe's tallest Ferris wheel, and offered the highest public viewing point in London until it was superseded by the 804 feet (245 m) observation deck on the 72nd floor of The Shard, which opened to the public on 1 February 2013. It is the most popular paid tourist attraction in the United Kingdom with over 3.75 million visitors annually, and has made many appearances in popular culture.
London i/ˈlʌndən/ is the capital and most populous city of England and the United Kingdom. Standing on the River Thames, London has been a major settlement for two millennia. It was founded by the Romans, who named it Londinium. London's ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its 1.12-square-mile (2.9 km2) medieval boundaries and in 2011 had a resident population of 7,375, making it the smallest city in England. Since at least the 19th century, the term London has also referred to the metropolis developed around this core. The bulk of this conurbation forms Greater London, a region of England governed by the Mayor of London and the London Assembly. The conurbation also covers two English counties: the small district of the City of London and the county of Greater London. The latter constitutes the vast majority of London, though historically it was split between Middlesex (a now abolished county), Essex, Surrey, Kent and Hertfordshire.
SS London was a British steamship which sank in the Bay of Biscay on 11 January 1866. The ship was travelling from Gravesend in England to Melbourne, Australia, when she began taking in water on 10 January, with 239 persons aboard. The ship was overloaded with cargo and unseaworthy, and only 19 survivors were able to escape the foundering ship by lifeboat, leaving a death toll of 220.
London was built in Blackwall Yard by Money Wigrams and Sons and launched on the River Thames on 20 July 1864, and had a 1652 ton register.
From 23 September 1864 she undertook sea trials and on 23 October 1864 started her first voyage to Melbourne via Portsmouth and Plymouth. During the voyage a boat crew was sent to locate a man overboard, but this boatcrew was lost, and later rescued by the Henry Tabar. London arrived in Cape Town on 5 December 1864 and set sail again on 7 December, arriving in Melbourne on 2 January 1865.
On 4 February 1865 she left Melbourne for the return trip to London with 260 passengers and 90,000 ounces (2,600 kg) of gold, and arrived back in Gravesend on 26 April 1865.
A Ferris wheel, named after George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr., (sometimes called a big wheel, observation wheel, or, in the case of the very tallest examples, giant wheel) is a nonbuilding structure consisting of a rotating upright wheel with multiple passenger-carrying components (commonly referred to as passenger cars, cabins, capsules, gondolas, or pods) attached to the rim in such a way that as the wheel turns, they are kept upright, usually by gravity.
Some of the largest modern Ferris wheels have cars mounted on the outside of the rim, with electric motors to independently rotate each car to keep it upright. These wheels may be referred to as observation wheels and their cars referred to as capsules. Sometimes these alternative names are also used for wheels with conventional gravity-oriented cars.
The original Ferris Wheel was designed and constructed by George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr. as a landmark for the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. The term Ferris wheel is used generically for all such structures which are now the most common type of amusement ride at state fairs in the United States.
The River Thames (i/tɛmz/ TEMZ) is a river that flows through southern England. It is the longest river entirely in England and the second longest in the United Kingdom, after the River Severn. While it is best known for flowing through London, the river also flows alongside other towns and cities, including Oxford, Reading, Henley-on-Thames and Windsor.
The river gives its name to three informal areas: the Thames Valley, a region of England around the river between Oxford and West London; the Thames Gateway; and the greatly overlapping Thames Estuary around the tidal Thames to the east of London and including the waterway itself. Thames Valley Police is a formal body that takes its name from the river, covering three counties.
In an alternative name, derived from its long tidal reach up to Teddington Lock in south west London, the lower reaches of the river are called the Tideway. The section of the river running through Oxford is traditionally called the Isis.
The administrative powers of the Thames Conservancy have been taken on with modifications by the Environment Agency and, in respect of the Tideway part of the river, such powers are split between the agency and the Port of London Authority.

The London Eye is located on the south bank of the River Thames. It stands across the water from the Palace of Westminster. It is one of London's best viewing platforms, not to mention one of its most popular tourist attractions. Completed in 2000, this huge Ferris wheel is nearly 122 meters tall, and carries 32 gondolas. Each gondola holds approximately 25 passengers. It takes 30 minutes for the London Eye to complete one revolution. In this time, it provides sweeping views across the city, and surrounding countryside up to 25 miles away. The London Eye is open from 10am and operates well into the evening. Tickets are available from the attraction itself. However, because the London Eye welcomes more than three million visitors a year, it's wise to book tickets in advance.

The Watched Walker takes us on a walking tour through the streets of London, featuring Westminster Bridge, Big Ben and the London Eye. The route begins near Embankment Station crossing over one of the Golden Jubilee Bridges, then down The Queen’s Walk passing the London Eye, next over Westminster Bridge stopping to look at Big Ben, and finally along Victoria Embankment, ending back by the Golden Jubilee Bridges. Sights seen along the tour include the London Eye, The London Dungeon, Shrek’s Adventure, Sea Life London Aquarium, a bagpipe player, Big Ben, Battle of Britain Memorial, Royal Air Force Memorial, and a few hidden extras (can you find them?). Footage recorded March 2017. ...............................................................................
An unbelievably epic 3CD live set, recorded at the London Forum in 2008, featuring a wide range of selections from the vast catalog of electronic pioneers Tangerine Dream! Here, Froese has put together a younger, very enthusiastic and highly skilled team. Well, it's not like back to the early years, except for the song selection that represents material spanning a few decades. The interpretation along with the instrumentation is different though and highly enjoyable. Two female artists (drums and saxes!) provide a welcome change in a male dominated area, adding color and spice to the overall presentation. Highlights include Hyperborea (title track to the 1983 album), Cloudburst Flight (from the 1979 album Force Majeure), Love On A Real Train (from the soundtrack to the film Risky Busines...

Flow through my mind love sometimes I forget
Tall tales of once upon a time we might regret
Bug-eyes monsters universal fear
In the mirror he finds himself for real
And the world keeps on return
In the cradle where it lies
Ten years of fire burns
Into the eye
A hand around my eyes lead me I am blind
Still I am delight of everything I find
Animation of souls expressed in dance
Thirty white norses on a red hill in trance
And the world keeps on turnin
In the cradle where it lies
Ten years of fire burns
Into the eye
Repeat 1st verse
