The Jordan River or River Jordan flows into the Dead Sea. It is considered to be one of the world's most sacred rivers. It is 156 miles long. The river drops rapidly in a 75 kilometer run to swampy Lake Hula, which is slightly above sea level. Exiting the lake, it drops much more in about 25 kilometers to the Sea of Galilee. The last section has less gradient, and the river begins to meander before it enters the Dead Sea, which is about 400 metres below sea level and has no outlet. Two major tributaries enter from the east during this last phase: the Yarmouk River and Jabbok River. Its section north of the Sea of Galilee within the boundaries of Israel, and forms the western boundary of the Golan Heights. South of the lake, it forms the border between the Kingdom of Jordan (to the east) and Israel and the West Bank (to the west).

It's said the next war in the Middle East will be over water. Already agricultural development is killing the River Jordan. But saving the river for all nations could be an impetus for co-operation.
"It's amazing what we've done to destroy a river that's holy to half of humanity", laments environmentalist Gidon Bromberg. Raw sewage and agricultural waste have turned sections of this once pristine river into a putrid trickle. The river takes it's first hit in the deserts of Northern Israel, where farmers like Jid Shoshani drain its water for irrigation. "It's madness to be growing tropical fruits in the middle of the desert", fumes Gidon. This water should be naturally replenished by the Yarmouk river. But water from the Yarmouk is siphoned off by farmers in Syria and Jordan. By the time the River Jordan reaches the Dead Sea, it has been pumped full of raw sewage and waste. Only 10% of the water that used to flow from the Jordan now makes it to the Dead Sea. As a result, the sea level is falling by one metre a year. "It makes me feel very bad", confides engineer Eli Raz. Only if Palestinians, Israelis, Syrians and Jordanians work together can the river and Dead Sea be saved.

Israel and the West Bank border the river to the west, while the Golan Heights and Jordan lie to its east. Both Jordan and the West Bank take their names from the river.
The river has a major significance in Judaism and Christianity and, to a more moderate degree, Islam, as the site where the Israelites crossed into the Promised Land and where Jesus of Nazareth was baptised by John the Baptist.

Jordan
Jordan (/ˈdʒɔːrdən/; Arabic: الأردن Al-Urdun), officially the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (Arabic: المملكة الأردنية الهاشمية Al-Mamlakah Al-Urduniyah Al-Hashimiyah), is an Arab kingdom in Western Asia, on the East Bank of the Jordan River. Jordan is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the east and south, Iraq to the north-east, Syria to the north, and Israel and Palestine to the west. Since the dawn of civilization, the country's location at the crossroads of the Middle East has served as a strategic nexus connecting Asia, Africa and Europe.
Archaeologists found evidence on inhabitance dating as far back as the Paleolithic period. Three kingdoms emerged on the territory of modern Jordan at the very end of the Bronze Age: Ammon, Moab and Edom. The lands were later part of several kingdoms and empires, most notably the Nabatean Kingdom, the Roman Empire and finally the Ottoman Empire from the 16th until the early 20th century. After the Partitioning of the Ottoman Empire after World war I by Britain and France, the Emirate of Transjordan was officially recognized by the Council of the League of Nations in 1922. In 1946, Jordan became an independent sovereign state officially known as The Hashemite Kingdom of Transjordan. The capture of the West Bank by Jordan during the 1948 Arab–Israeli War has showed that the Arab Legion forces known today as the Jordanian Armed Forces were the most effective among the Arab troops involved in the war. The same year, Abdullah I took the title King of Jordan. The name of the state was changed to The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on 1 December 1948.

River
A river is a natural flowing watercourse, usually freshwater, flowing towards an ocean, sea, lake or another river. In some cases a river flows into the ground and becomes dry at the end of its course without reaching another body of water. Small rivers can be referred to using names such as stream, creek, brook, rivulet, and rill. There are no official definitions for the generic term river as applied to geographic features, although in some countries or communities a stream is defined by its size. Many names for small rivers are specific to geographic location; examples are "run" in some parts of the United States, "burn" in Scotland and northeast England, and "beck" in northern England. Sometimes a river is defined as being larger than a creek, but not always: the language is vague.
Rivers are part of the hydrological cycle. Jordan Feliz
Jordan Alexander Feliz (born March 15, 1989) is an American Christian musician, who plays a folk rock and soul style of Christian pop. He has released one studio album, Beloved in 2015, with Centricity Music. His song, "The River", has charted on the Billboard magazine Christian Songs, Christian Airplay, and Christian Digital Songs charts.
Early and personal life
Jordan Alexander Feliz, was born on March 15, 1989, in Clovis, California, the son of Richard Edward Feliz and Jennie Elaine Feliz (née, Wren). He graduated from Buchanan High School, in 2007. His music career was facilitated by the members of A Current Affair, reaching out to him via his Myspace page, during 2006 in search of a lead vocalist. He is married to his high school girlfriend, Jamie, where they reside in Nashville, Tennessee, with their child, a daughter, Jolie.
Music career
His music career started in 2006, with the band, A Current Affair, where it was not until 2015 that his solo music career commenced. The first studio album, Beloved, was released on October 2, 2015, from Centricity Music. The song, "The River", charted on three Billboard magazine charts the Christian Songs at 2,Christian Airplay at 1, and Christian Digital Songs at 2.

The Shack
The Shack is a Christian novel by Canadian author William P. Young, a former office manager and hotel night clerk, published in 2007. The novel was self-published but became a USA Today bestseller, having sold 1 million copies as of June 8, 2008. It was the #1 paperback trade fiction seller on The New York Times Best Seller list from June 2008 to early 2010, in a publishing partnership with Hachette Book Group USA's FaithWords imprint (Hodder & Stoughton in the UK). In 2009 it was awarded the "Diamond Award" for sales of over 10 million copies by the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association.
The title of the book is a metaphor for “the house you build out of your own pain”, as Young explained in a telephone interview. He also told radio host talk show Drew Marshall that The Shack "is a metaphor for the places you get stuck, you get hurt, you get damaged...the thing where shame or hurt is centered."
Plot
The novel is set in the American Northwest. The main character is Mackenzie Allen Philips, a father of five, called "Mack" by his family and friends.

It's said the next war in the Middle East will be over water. Already agricultural development is killing the River Jordan. But saving the river for all nations could be an impetus for co-operation.
"It's amazing what we've done to destroy a river that's holy to half of humanity", laments environmentalist Gidon Bromberg. Raw sewage and agricultural waste have turned sections of this once pristine river into a putrid trickle. The river takes it's first hit in the deserts of Northern Israel, where farmers like Jid Shoshani drain its water for irrigation. "It's madness to be growing tropical fruits in the middle of the desert", fumes Gidon. This water should be naturally replenished by the Yarmouk river. But water from the Yarmouk is siphoned off by farmers in Syria and Jordan. By the time the River Jordan reaches the Dead Sea, it has been pumped full of raw sewage and waste. Only 10% of the water that used to flow from the Jordan now makes it to the Dead Sea. As a result, the sea level is falling by one metre a year. "It makes me feel very bad", confides engineer Eli Raz. Only if Palestinians, Israelis, Syrians and Jordanians work together can the river and Dead Sea be saved.

It was designed to unite the Ottoman Empire that had begun to disintegrate as well as to transport Moslem pilgrims to Medina in the Hedjaz Mountains. Around thirty kilometres northwest of Amman is As-Salt that is situated between two mountain slopes. Up until the First World War this city that had a good supply of water and enjoyed a good climate, was the main metropolis of Trans-Jordan. Saladin had this fortress built on a twelve hundred metre high hill in 1184. Qal’at Ajlun was meant to be a defence against the approaching Crusaders and also to protect pilgrims on their way to Mecca. At an altitude of eight hundred metres is a place of great significance for the Jewish and Christian faiths, Nebo Mountain, where God revealed to Moses the Promised Land for the first time after his forty year journey from Egypt. Near Wadi Musa, The Valley Of Moses, is the fascinating and legendary rose red city of Petra. Its strategic location at the junction of six important caravan routes, including the famous Incense Road, brought much prosperity to the city. The most impressive route to Petra travels through the Siq, a narrow gorge with huge sandstone walls. Jordan is a priceless gem located in the Near East with all the magical romance of the Orient!

This unique one day guided West Bank tour, leaves from Jerusalem every Saturday and will take you to four of the highlights of the West Bank: Bethlehem, Jericho, Taybeh, and Ramallah, for an unforgettable insight into the history and culture of this fascinating region. Visiting major historic and religious sites, as well as sites of natural beauty, and modern day culture, this is a varied and fascinating tour which you will not forget.
Leaving Jerusalem, the tour heads to Bethlehem where you will enjoy a guided tour of the major sites of the city where Jesus was born. You'll visit Church of Nativity, the Milk Grotto, the Old City with its colorful market, the Shepherd's Field, and walk alongside the separation barrier breaking the journey with a delicious Arab style lunch. After lunch, you'll visit Qasr-el-Yahud, the ancient baptism site of Jesus on the banks of the Jordan River, before continuing to the archaeological sight of the world's oldest city, Jericho. After leaving Jericho, you will have a great view of the Mount of Temptation as we head into the rolling hills of the West Bank and the village of Taybeh, famous for being home to the Taybeh Brewery. Back on the bus, the last stop, Ramallah, is just a short distance away. You'll tour this modern, vibrant, cultural capital of the West Bank, seeing Arafat's Tomb. If you want to continue to a nightlife tour of Ramallah, including dinner, nargila, a bar and a nightclub, you can do so at this point. Otherwise, you'll head back to Jerusalem with a day of memories that will not be soon forgotten.
Today we're going on a tour of West Bank or Palestine. We have a very diverse tour. We're going to be seeing historical attractions, political attractions and tourist attractions.
Our first stop today is Sheppard's Field and here in the background we have the Church of the Sheppard which is where the three sheppard's are supposed to have seen the start of David in the sky before Jesus was born.

Now we're visiting a refugee camp. It looks more like a city because it's been around for more than 60 years.

So were are back at the Jordan River again. A few days ago we visited from the Jordanian side in Bethany beyond the Jordan. It's a bit surreal being back so soon.
Right now we're visiting Jericho and to the left is a new part of Jericho. The new city. And to my right is the world's oldest city.
We're visiting the first West Bank Palestinian brewery here.

Today we're going on a tour of West Bank or Palestine. We have a very diverse tour. We're going to be seeing historical attractions, political attractions and tourist attractions.
Our first stop today is Sheppard's Field and here in the background we have the Church of the Sheppard which is where the three sheppard's are supposed to have seen the start of David in the sky before Jesus was born.

Now we're visiting a refugee camp. It looks more like a city because it's been around for more than 60 years.

I've had falafel many times but this is the first time I've seen it prepared.
Forget Starbucks, I'm going to Stars and Bucks.
So were are back at the Jordan River again. A few days ago we visited from the Jordanian side in Bethany beyond the Jordan. It's a bit surreal being back so soon.
Right now we're visiting Jericho and to the left is a new part of Jericho. The new city. And to my right is the world's oldest city.
We're visiting the first West Bank Palestinian brewery here.
Ah, that's good.

All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, "glide" over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and "see" the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

The Jordan Desert is a beautiful, natural landscape and was once home to a legendary and mysterious people that fell into oblivion some centuries ago, the Nabateans, whose realm was at its zenith some two thousand years ago and resulted in some of the most fascinating ruins of antiquity. Due to their remote and obscure location the remains of Petra, a legendary Nabatean city of rock, were for many years merely regarded as a myth and only a few local Bedouin tribes knew of the existence of certain ancient buildings in the south of what is now Jordan. Both El-Barid and Petra were located in a very favourable position at the junction of several ancient trading routes that led from the Arabian Peninsula to as far as Anatolia and into today’s Syria and Egypt. Caravan trains brought great wealth to the Nabatean realm. The technical knowledge and achievements of this ancient desert tribe were quite remarkable. Drains that were several kilometres long supplied the local population with fresh water, an essential commodity in the desert. One of the region’s most famous natural landmarks is situated in the northern part of the Wadi, Rum, The Seven Pillars Of Wisdom, a striking rock that was named after a novel by Lawrence Of Arabia. Inspired by the enthusiastic writings of the legendary secret agent, film director David Lean decided to shoot the film at the original locations mentioned by Lawrence. The shining colour of the rocks and the fascinating desert landscape of the Wadi Rum have been made famous by the historic film. The conquest of this region by the Arabs in the middle of the seventh century marked the decline of the legendary rock city of Petra. For more than a thousand years the ruins of this ancient civilisation lay hidden beneath the desert sands of Jordan before they once again revealed some of their secrets to a new and fascinated world.

Aug 2007 It's said the next war in the Middle East will be over water. Already agricultural development is killing the River Jordan. But saving the river for all nations could be an impetus for co-operation. "It's amazing what we've done to destroy a river that's holy to half of humanity", laments environmentalist Gidon Bromberg. Raw sewage and agricultural waste have turned sections of this once pristine river into a putrid trickle. The river takes it's first hit in the deserts of Northern Israel, where farmers like Jid Shoshani drain its water for irrigation. "It's madness to be growing tropical fruits in the middle of the desert", fumes Gidon. This water should be naturally replenished by the Yarmouk river. It's said the next war in the Middle East will be over water. Already agricultural development is killing the River Jordan. But saving the river for all nations could be an impetus for co-operation.
"It's amazing what we've done to destroy a river that's holy to half of humanity", laments environmentalist Gidon Bromberg. Raw sewage and agricultural waste have turned sections of this once pristine river into a putrid trickle. The river takes it's first hit in the deserts of Northern Israel, where farmers like Jid Shoshani drain its water for irrigation. "It's madness to be growing tropical fruits in the middle of the desert", fumes Gidon. This water should be naturally replenished by the Yarmouk river. But water from the Yarmouk is siphoned off by farmers in Syria and Jordan. By the time the River Jordan reaches the Dead Sea, it has been pumped full of raw sewage and waste. Only 10% of the water that used to flow from the Jordan now makes it to the Dead Sea. As a result, the sea level is falling by one metre a year. "It makes me feel very bad", confides engineer Eli Raz. Only if Palestinians, Israelis, Syrians and Jordanians work together can the river and Dead Sea be saved.
