The distinguishable character of the band was Einar Örn's howling and off-key singing and his lyrics that most often described very day-to-day things but with a lot of interwoven angst. Members of the band later found themselves in KUKL, or in 1986 in the Sugarcubes.

Fyrsta keppni sögunnar sem vitað er um fór fram milli Persa og Túrkemenista og unnu má til gamans geta að Túrkemenar þann leik. Um 1800 uppgötvuðu Bretar þessa íþrótt í Indlandi sem hafði verið leikin um alla Asíu síðastliðin 2000 ár. Það var reyndar ekki fyrr en um 1850 sem að bresak riddaraherdeildin skóp fyrstu reglurnar og um 20 árum síðar hafði þessi íþrótt náð geysimiklum vinsældum í Englandi. Nú í dag hefur hún aukið vinsældir sínar enn meira og finnst í flestum löndum. Þessi íþrótt er líkamlega erfið fyrir hrossin og jafnast leikvangurinn á við tíu fótboltavelli. Fjórir eru í hverju liði, tveir framherjar, einn miðvallarmaður (sem er yfirleitt hæðst metni leikmaður hvers liðs) og jafnframt varnarmaður. Keppt er í lotum, mismunandi eftir styrkleika liðanna en algeng tala er 6 hjá atvinnumönnum. Keppt er í 7 til 7½ mínútur í senn og er stutt hlé eftir hverja þar sem yfirleitt er skipt um hross. Atvinnumenn nota allt að eitt hross fyrir hverja lotu eða i kringum sex hross! Kylfuna ber alltaf að hafa í hægri hendi þó að undanþágur séu veittar fyrir örvhenta. Hana má aldrei sveifla yfir né undir hesta andstæðinganna. Einnig hefur polo vissar “umferðarreglur” sem eiga að koma í veg fyrir að keppendur stökkvi fyrir hvorn annan og skapi þannig slysahættu. Ef að einhver ríður svo að hætta skapast getur sá hinn sami fengið refsinguna “Hættuleg reiðmennska” sem er bein þýðing úr ensku. Tveir dómarar ríða inni á vellinum og einn annar situr fyrir utan og sker úr um ágreining vallardómaranna tveggja. Ef að mark er skorað er skipt um vallarhelminga til að jafna út mismuni vegna veðurs, grasflatar ðea hvað sem gæti hugsanlega auðveldað öðru liðinu að skora. Þótt undarlegt megi virðast eru keppnishestarnir oft kallaðir smáhestar (polo ponies) þó að þeir séu vel yfir mörkunum. Þó að ég hafi ekki fundið neina skýringu þá gæti ég trúað að það sé vegna þess að keppnishrossin voru upphaflega mun minni. Þótt ótrúlegt megi virðast spruttu Argentínumann óvænt fram á sjónarsviðið með Criollo-hestakyn sitt og eru nú vinsælustu keppnishestarnir fyrir þessa íþrótt Criollo, Thoroughbred eða blöndur af þessum tveim kynjum. Hraði, snerpa, gáfur, þol, kraftur, hlýðni og áræðni eru allt hlutir sem prýða góðan polohest. Atvinnumenn hafa fúslega viðurkennt að um 80% af getu sinni eiga þeir hestum sínum að þakka.

Rokk í Reykjavík
Rokk í Reykjavík (
pronunciation ) is a documentary directed by Icelandic Friðrik Þór Friðriksson during the Icelandic winter of 1981-1982 and released for the local television the same year.
With this documentary, Friðriksson showcases the alternative music scene through several performances of the post-punk/new wave most important bands at that time taken from different concerts and accompanied by, some times, short interviews with musicians, and it portrays the lifestyle of the Icelandic youth faced to the establishment and advocated to anarchy, who were trying to find their own identity.
Rokk í Reykjavík is today considered as one of the most important documentaries about the Icelandic music culture and it included several important bands. For instance, Tappi Tíkarrass, a punk/pop band led by vocalist Björk Guðmundsdóttir contributed with two of their works: “Hrollur” and “Dúkkulísur”. The New Wave band Þeyr, today considered as one of the legendary Iceland bands of the early eighties, is featured here with their songs “Rúdolf” and “Killer Boogie”.
It is also worth of mentioning, the presence of Einar Örn Benediktsson’s punk group Purrkur Pillnikk, which appeared with two tracks: “Ovænt” and “Gluggagægir”.
Other important artists featured here are Bubbi Morthens with his band Egó, Fræbbblarnir, Grýlurnar, and the renowned Sveinbjörn Beinteinsson with his chanting poem “Rímur”, among others.

Purrkur Pillnikk ('Sleepy Chess-Player') was a rock band from late punk era in Iceland. The band existed for 18 months (1981–1982) and were very active as they released at least two LPs, one live-album and two EPs. The distinguishable character of the band were Einar Örn's howling and off-key singing and his lyrics that most often described very day-to-day things but with a lot of interwoven angst. Members of the band later found themselves in KUKL, or in 1986 in The Sugarcubes.
The members were: Ásgeir R. Bragason, Bragi Ólafsson, Einar Örn Benediktsson and Friðrik Erlingsson. The three latter ones formed Smekkleysa/Bad Taste publishing house in Reykjavík with friends and were also members of The Sugarcubes.
Their records were: Tilf, a 7" EP containing 10 songs and lasting about 12 minutes in total; Ekki enn, an LP containing 17 songs; Googooplex, a double 45RPM album containing 13 songs; No Time to Think, a 7" EP containing 4 songs; and the posthumous live LP Maskínan, containing 17 songs including several not on the other records, most notably a 5-song suite entitled "Orð fyrir dauða" (Words before death) specifically written for their swansong concert at the Melarokk festival in August 1982. They also had a track on the ROIR Records compilation World Class Punk.

Keppt er í lotum, mismunandi eftir styrkleika liðanna en algeng tala er 6 hjá atvinnumönnum. Keppt er í 7 til 7½ mínútur í senn og er stutt hlé eftir hverja þar sem yfirleitt er skipt um hross. Atvinnumenn nota allt að eitt hross fyrir hverja lotu eða i kringum sex hross! Kylfuna ber alltaf að hafa í hægri hendi þó að undanþágur séu veittar fyrir örvhenta. Þótt ótrúlegt megi virðast spruttu Argentínumann óvænt fram á sjónarsviðið með Criollo-hestakyn sitt og eru nú vinsælustu keppnishestarnir fyrir þessa íþrótt Criollo, Thoroughbred eða blöndur af þessum tveim kynjum. British Polo - Midhurst - The Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup - Proud to be the home of British Polo for over a century. Cowdray Ruins - The Ruins of a Tudor Manor House in Midhurst West Sussex almost totally destroyed by fire in 1793. Hestasport - Hestaíþrótt - Poló leikur í Englandi. Byrjunin á seinni hálfleik. Keppnishestar - Arabískir hestar. Polo - Íþrótt konunganna. Talið er að um leið og ístöð hafi verið fundin upp hafi íþróttir sem svipar til polosins sprottið upp. Þar sem íþróttin reynir mikið á styrk, snerpu, hraða og hlýðni hesta ásamt því að vera hröð og spennandi var þessi íþrótt líklegast góð þjálfun fyrir hermenn. Fyrsta keppni sögunnar sem vitað er um fór fram milli Persa og Túrkemenista og unnu má til gamans geta að Túrkemenar þann leik. Um 1800 uppgötvuðu Bretar þessa íþrótt í Indlandi sem hafði verið leikin um alla Asíu síðastliðin 2000 ár. Það var reyndar ekki fyrr en um 1850 sem að bresak riddaraherdeildin skóp fyrstu reglurnar og um 20 árum síðar hafði þessi íþrótt náð geysimiklum vinsældum í Englandi. Nú í dag hefur hún aukið vinsældir sínar enn meira og finnst í flestum löndum. Þessi íþrótt er líkamlega erfið fyrir hrossin og jafnast leikvangurinn á við tíu fótboltavelli. Fjórir eru í hverju liði, tveir framherjar, einn miðvallarmaður (sem er yfirleitt hæðst metni leikmaður hvers liðs) og jafnframt varnarmaður. Keppt er í lotum, mismunandi eftir styrkleika liðanna en algeng tala er 6 hjá atvinnumönnum. Keppt er í 7 til 7½ mínútur í senn og er stutt hlé eftir hverja þar sem yfirleitt er skipt um hross. Atvinnumenn nota allt að eitt hross fyrir hverja lotu eða i kringum sex hross! Kylfuna ber alltaf að hafa í hægri hendi þó að undanþágur séu veittar fyrir örvhenta. Hana má aldrei sveifla yfir né undir hesta andstæðinganna. Einnig hefur polo vissar “umferðarreglur” sem eiga að koma í veg fyrir að keppendur stökkvi fyrir hvorn annan og skapi þannig slysahættu. Ef að einhver ríður svo að hætta skapast getur sá hinn sami fengið refsinguna “Hættuleg reiðmennska” sem er bein þýðing úr ensku. Tveir dómarar ríða inni á vellinum og einn annar situr fyrir utan og sker úr um ágreining vallardómaranna tveggja. Ef að mark er skorað er skipt um vallarhelminga til að jafna út mismuni vegna veðurs, grasflatar ðea hvað sem gæti hugsanlega auðveldað öðru liðinu að skora. Þótt undarlegt megi virðast eru keppnishestarnir oft kallaðir smáhestar (polo ponies) þó að þeir séu vel yfir mörkunum. Þó að ég hafi ekki fundið neina skýringu þá gæti ég trúað að það sé vegna þess að keppnishrossin voru upphaflega mun minni. Þótt ótrúlegt megi virðast spruttu Argentínumann óvænt fram á sjónarsviðið með Criollo-hestakyn sitt og eru nú vinsælustu keppnishestarnir fyrir þessa íþrótt Criollo, Thoroughbred eða blöndur af þessum tveim kynjum. LAHORE. A three-day anti-polio drive started on Monday (today) in the provincial metropolis. Lahore Deputy Commissioner Sumair Ahmad Syed initiated the anti-polio drive at Samanabad Hospital.
