"Jiya Jale" (Dil Se) is a tribute to A. R. Rahman by the Berklee Indian Ensemble in gratitude for his immense contribution to our lives through his inspiring music and journey.
A. R. Rahman is an Indian composer, singer-songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and philanthropist. In 2009, Time Magazine placed Rahman in its list of World's Most Influential People. In a notable career spanning two decades, he has garnered particular acclaim for redefining contemporary Indian film music, and putting Indian music on the global map, in a way that no other Indian composer/performer has achieved.
On October 24, 2014, Berklee College of Music will confer A. R. Rahman with an honorary doctor of music degree. Berklee Faculty and students from the Berklee Indian Ensemble will pay tribute to the living legend, who will join them on select pieces in a concert celebrating his music and life at Boston's Symphony Hall.
Mr. Rahman's visit is a signature event under Berklee India Exchange, a new initiative co-founded by two Indian Berklee alums, Annette Philip (artistic director), and Clint Valladares (artist relations and strategy), as a platform for cultural conversation, through the composition, collaboration, and performance of original Indian music. Proceeds from the concert will go towards a scholarship fund in Mr. Rahman's name for students from India to attend Berklee.
This is a huge milestone for the Berklee Indian Ensemble, one of largest and most diverse ensembles at the college, with members representing 37 countries, and counting. Founded in 2011 by faculty member, Annette Philip, the ensemble performs an expansive repertoire of Indian classical, semi-classical, folk, Sufi, and contemporary Indo-jazz music, with the ultimate goal of presenting concerts entirely consisting of original student compositions. Every year, there is at least one composition by A. R. Rahman featured in their repertoire.

Nice Day is an EP by His Name Is Alive, released by 4AD in the UK in 1997.
History
After the completion of the tour for Stars on ESP, His Name Is Alive leader Warren Defever found himself with a steady lineup for perhaps the first time in the band's history; veteran vocalist Karin Oliver and drummer Trey Many, along with newer members: vocalist Lovetta Pippen and bassist Chad Gilchrist, along with Defever himself on guitar, and newer vocalist Erika Hoffman (who sings on four of the six tracks). As a result, Defever was anxious to make a new recording and quickly recorded the tracks for this EP in late 1996. It would be almost a year later, in October 1997, before it was released. Apparently this irked Defever somewhat, as the booklet for the 1999 compilation Always Stay Sweet features a copy of a fax that Defever sent to 4AD urging them to hurry up and release the EP.
While originally intended as a mail-order only release of 1,000 copies, the CD EP was soon re-pressed and sold in stores. The tracks were also appended to a reissue of Stars on ESP in 1998.

Allah-Rakha Rahman (
pronunciation , born A. S. Dileep Kumar on 6 January 1967) is an Indian composer, singer-songwriter, music producer, musician and philanthropist. Rahman's works are noted for integrating Eastern classical music with electronic music, world music and traditional orchestral arrangements. Among his awards are two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe, four National Film Awards, fifteen Filmfare Awards and thirteen Filmfare Awards South. Rahman's body of work for film and stage has given him the nickname of "the Mozart of Madras", and Tamil commentators and fans call him Isai Puyal (English: the Musical Storm).
In 2009, Time included Rahman on its list of the world's most influential people. The UK-based world-music magazine Songlines named him one of "Tomorrow's World Music Icons" in August 2011.
With an in-house studio (Panchathan Record Inn in Chennai) Rahman's film-scoring career began during the early 1990s with the Tamil film Roja. Working in India's film industries, international cinema and theatre, Rahman is one of the world's all-time best-selling recording artists. In a notable two-decade career, he has been acclaimed for redefining contemporary Indian film music and contributing to the success of several films. "Jiya Jale" (Dil Se) is a tribute to A. R. Rahman by the Berklee Indian Ensemble in gratitude for his immense contribution to our lives through his inspiring music and journey.
A. R. Rahman is an Indian composer, singer-songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and philanthropist. In 2009, Time Magazine placed Rahman in its list of World's Most Influential People. In a notable career spanning two decades, he has garnered particular acclaim for redefining contemporary Indian film music, and putting Indian music on the global map, in a way that no other Indian composer/performer has achieved.
On October 24, 2014, Berklee College of Music will confer A. R. Rahman with an honorary doctor of music degree. Berklee Faculty and students from the Berklee Indian Ensemble will pay tribute to the living legend, who will join them on select pieces in a concert celebrating his music and life at Boston's Symphony Hall.
Mr. Rahman's visit is a signature event under Berklee India Exchange, a new initiative co-founded by two Indian Berklee alums, Annette Philip (artistic director), and Clint Valladares (artist relations and strategy), as a platform for cultural conversation, through the composition, collaboration, and performance of original Indian music. Proceeds from the concert will go towards a scholarship fund in Mr. Rahman's name for students from India to attend Berklee.
This is a huge milestone for the Berklee Indian Ensemble, one of largest and most diverse ensembles at the college, with members representing 37 countries, and counting. Founded in 2011 by faculty member, Annette Philip, the ensemble performs an expansive repertoire of Indian classical, semi-classical, folk, Sufi, and contemporary Indo-jazz music, with the ultimate goal of presenting concerts entirely consisting of original student compositions. Every year, there is at least one composition by A. R. Rahman featured in their repertoire.

On October 24, 2014, Berklee College of Music will confer A. R. Rahman with an honorary doctor of music degree. Berklee Faculty and students from the Berklee Indian Ensemble will pay tribute to the living legend, who will join them on select pieces in a concert celebrating his music and life at Boston's Symphony Hall.
Mr. Rahman's visit is a signature event under Berklee India Exchange, a new initiative co-founded by two Indian Berklee alums, Annette Philip (artistic director), and Clint Valladares (artist relations and strategy), as a platform for cultural conversation, through the composition, collaboration, and performance of original Indian music. Proceeds from the concert will go towards a scholarship fund in Mr. Rahman's name for students from India to attend Berklee.
This is a huge milestone for the Berklee Indian Ensemble, one of largest and most diverse ensembles at the college, with members representing 37 countries, and counting. Founded in 2011 by faculty member, Annette Philip, the ensemble performs an expansive repertoire of Indian classical, semi-classical, folk, Sufi, and contemporary Indo-jazz music, with the ultimate goal of presenting concerts entirely consisting of original student compositions. Every year, there is at least one composition by A. R. Rahman featured in their repertoire.

EXT. APARTMENT CORRIDOR - DAY
BLAZE, upper 20’s attractive blonde female, walks into the lush vegetation filled corridor of a two-story apartment complex built in the 1950’s. The complex is lifeless, with not a soul in sight. She scans around the apartment doors, all facing out into the corridor, much like an old hotel.
EXT. APARTMENT POOL AREA - DAY
Blaze walks to the fenced-in pool area, with it’s sparkling water, and worn pool furniture. She smiles.
BLAZE
Ahhh. Finally some, peace and
quiet. Now I can finally work on my script.
She turns around to walk to her apartment, and almost bumps into a woman standing right behind her, squashing her up against the railing. SHAWNA, 40 with brown hair styled with a feathered look, tomboyish, stern, has a deadpan look on her face. Shawna is dressed in a button-up.
BLAZE Oh excuse me!
Shawna does not move out of her way.
SHAWNA
So you’re the new manager.
BLAZE
Yeah. Hi, I’m Blaze. Nice to meet
you.
She extends her hand wedged up against her body. Shawna does not extend hers.
SHAWNA
I was friends with the last
manager. We’ll see how long you last.
Shawna walks off outside the back gate.
BLAZE
Okay. Nice meeting you too!
Blaze walks out of the pool area.
EXT./INT. BLAZE’S LIVING ROOM - DAY
Blaze enters her first-floor apartment #10, filled with wall-to-wall boxes. The apartment has wooden floors and a contemporary look.
BLAZE
Ugh! I gotta find my uniform!
Blaze walks over to a box. She begins looking in boxes. Then a loud KNOCK is heard on the door. Blaze jumps scared. She slowly peels herself off the ground. Another KNOCK is heard, but louder this time.
BLAZE Just a minute!
POUNDING on the door. Blaze opens the door to a light skinned African American guy in his upper-thirties, LEWACIOUS, in shorts and white tube-socks pulled up to his knees. He is nerdy looking, with thick round glasses on. He speaks with nervousness, as he holds a plant.
LEWACIOUS
Hi. I’m Lewacious in apartment #1.
BLAZE
Hi. Nice to meet you. I’m Blaze.
Lewacious shoves the plant in her face, with no tact.
LEWACIOUS
This is for you. A little
something I grew myself.
BLAZE
It’s really nice. Thank you.
LEWACIOUS
So what brings you here to this
magical place?
BLAZE
Oh, I’m a writer, trying to find
some peace and quiet to write.
As Blazes is talking, Lewacious peers around her checking out all of her stuff, continually through their conversation.
LEWACIOUS
Oh. Maybe you’ll write about me
someday.
BLAZE Maybe.
Blaze smiles.
LEWACIOUS
Wow! You got a lot of stuff!

Yeah. I moved from a bigger
apartment. I need to get rid of some of it.
