Album

Albums of recorded music were developed in the early 20th century, first as books of individual 78rpm records, then from 1948 as vinyl LP records played at 33 ¹⁄₃ rpm. Vinyl LPs are still issued, though in the 21st century albums sales have mostly focused on compact disc (CD) and MP3 formats. The audio cassette was a format used in the late 1970s through to the 1990s alongside vinyl.

An album may be recorded in a recording studio (fixed or mobile), in a concert venue, at home, in the field, or a mix of places. Recording may take a few hours to several years to complete, usually in several takes with different parts recorded separately, and then brought or "mixed" together. Recordings that are done in one take without overdubbing are termed "live", even when done in a studio. Studios are built to absorb sound, eliminating reverberation, so as to assist in mixing different takes; other locations, such as concert venues and some "live rooms", allow for reverberation, which creates a "live" sound. The majority of studio recordings contain an abundance of editing, sound effects, voice adjustments, etc. With modern recording technology, musicians can be recorded in separate rooms or at separate times while listening to the other parts using headphones; with each part recorded as a separate track.

Renditions of the Soul

Renditions of the Soul is the fifth studio album by Filipino singer Nina, released in the Philippines on August 27, 2009 by Warner Music. The album contains a selection of the most requested songs from her "all-male hits special" weekly acoustic radio show of the same title, which aired on Wave 89.1 during Friday and Sunday evenings. The idea and concept of the project came from Nina herself, and she approached the station's manager to carry it out. She is co-executive producer of the album, with Warner head manager Jim Baluyut, and produced all the tracks herself (a first time for the singer). All the tracks are the actual recordings from Nina's Renditions of the Soul radio sessions.

Upon release, the album received positive response from music critics who stated that Nina's voice fits perfectly to each song. In 2010, she won Best Female Recording Artist on the Box Office Entertainment Awards, where the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation named her as the best-selling female recording artist of 2009—having sold 100,000 copies of her Nina Live!, Nina Sings the Hits of Diane Warren and Renditions of the Soul albums. Additionally, the album was surprisingly a commercial hit. Despite having the least promotion, it managed to reach Platinum by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI) in July 2010, denoting 20,000 units sold. In December 2010, it became one of the best-sellers in the country during Christmas season.

Nina Girado

Marifil Niña Girado (born November 1, 1980), better known by her stage name Nina, is a Filipina singer, occasional songwriter, record producer, TV and radio personality. She made her recording debut in 2002 after signing a recording contract with Warner Music Philippines. Following the release of her debut album, she received numerous awards from different organizations and multiple album certifications by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI). She established her position in the Philippine music industry in 2005, after releasing her third album Nina Live!. The album earned her the first ever Diamond award for a female OPM artist. In the same year, she staged a Nina Live! concert at the Araneta Coliseum, which became her biggest solo concert to date.

In 2006, she released her self-titled album, which earned her the most nominations (eight) for the Awit Awards. Later, she was criticized for releasing too many covers, and got in a feud with her ex-boyfriend Nyoy Volante's parents when she filed a lawsuit against them. She regained success in 2009 after performing and touring with the Sessionistas. In the same year, she released her last studio album under Warner, Renditions of the Soul, which was taken from her Wave 89.1 radio show of the same title. The album was both critically and commercially successful. She signed a recording deal with Universal Records in 2010, and represented her country in the Pattaya International Music Festival a year later.

All Good?

"All Good?" is the second single from De La Soul's fifth album, Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump, released on January 26, 2000. It was a collaboration between the group and soul legend Chaka Khan, who sings an extended hook that leads into each verse. The song was notably popular in Europe where it received numerous remix treatments.

The song talks about people who abandoned or shunned the group after their initial commercial success and popularity took a dive, and those who attempt to hop back on the bandwagon. The title of the song is a phrase implying that something is either okay ("all good") or not okay ("it ain't all good") as sung by Chaka, during the chorus. The music video version of this song takes place at a car wash based on the film Car Wash and features a cameo appearance from actor Frank Vincent.
