Brenda Mae Tarpley (born December 11, 1944), known as Brenda Lee, is an American performer and the top-charting solo female vocalist of the 1960s. She sang rockabilly, pop and country music, and had 47 US chart hits during the 1960s, and is ranked fourth in that decade surpassed only by Elvis Presley, the Beatles and Ray Charles. She is perhaps best known in the United States for her 1960 hit "I'm Sorry", and 1958's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree", a United States holiday standard for more than 50 years.
At 4 ft 9 inches tall (approximately 145 cm), she received the nickname Little Miss Dynamite in 1957 after recording the song "Dynamite" and was one of the earliest pop stars to have a major contemporary international following.
Lee's popularity faded in the late 1960s as her voice matured, but she continued a successful recording career by returning to her roots as a country singer with a string of hits through the 1970s and 1980s. She is a member of the Rock and Roll, Country Music and Rockabilly Halls of Fame. She is also a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. Brenda currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee.

Brenda is a feminine given name in the English language.
The origin of the name is uncertain, but it may be derived from a Scandinavian language, rather than a Celtic language like the similarly-spelt masculine given name Brendan. It is possible that Brenda may be derived in part from the Old Norse element brand, meaning "(flaming) sword".
Prior to the 20th century, Brenda was primarily used in Ireland and Scotland, later it became popular in England. Its use in the Gaelic-speaking countries is attributed to the similar, although likely etymologically unrelated, masculine name Brendan.
"Brenda" is used as a nickname for Queen Elizabeth II by the satirical magazine Private Eye. The comedian Stanley Baxter played the "Duchess of Brenda", a character loosely based on the Queen.
"All Alone Am I" is a song from 1962 popularized by the American singer Brenda Lee. The song was originally composed by the Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis and recorded in Greek by Tzeni Karezi for the soundtrack of the film To nisi ton genneon (The Island of the Brave); the original song in Greek is titled "Μην τον ρωτάς τον ουρανό" ("Min ton rotas ton ourano", translation: "Don't ask the sky"). Later, a new version of the song with English lyrics was produced by Owen Bradley and appeared as the title track on one of Lee's albums. The song is written in the key of F major, but begins on the sub-dominant B-flat Major 7th chord.
"All Alone Am I" became a top 10 pop hit in both the US and the UK. The song peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in November 1962 and number seven on the UK Singles Chart in February 1963. The song also spent five weeks atop the US Billboard easy listening chart in November and December 1962, Lee's only song to do so. The B-side to the single, "Save All Your Lovin' For Me", reached number 53 on the US pop chart.

Plot: Marathon Pictures is stuck with Billy Doran, Whiz Quiz radio show star but a flop in Hollywood. Ex-child star Tiny Barlow suggests that the studio remake "Skippy", the film that made him famous, with himself as coach for little Billy. A. J. Colder, Marathon's Mighty Mogul, agrees. Joan Winslow, a contract player who has never had a part, is picked to replace balky Brenda Lee in Marathon's monster musical of the year. Tiny poses as a big shot and takes credit for getting Joan the role. They are soon seen everywhere together as Tiny is taking advantage of her publicity build-up for his own gain, until he suddenly finds out he is in love with her and confesses his duplicity. This occurs when Colder has forbid Joan to see Tiny anymore, directing her to only be seen with important people who can help her career, and Tiny thinks it is because she has dumped him. He enters into a conspiracy with Brenda's agent, Mickey Fadden, to make Brenda give up her strike and accept the role Colder gave Joan. She does and Tiny is given the role of her leading man. But he is unhappy about what he has done in costing Joan her big chance, plus his old friend, Georgie Clemons who used to play the mean kid in Tiny's films is also replaced. Faced with the taunts of the production crew because of what he helped engineer and broken hearted about Joan, Tiny walks out on the picture, climbs into his automobile and heads for parts unknown. Little Billy, who adores him, stows away in the luggage compartment. Billy, the high IQ kid, has devised a scheme to set everything right.

"I'm Sorry" is a 1960 hit song by 15-year-old American singer Brenda Lee. It peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in July 1960. Allmusic guide wrote that it is the pop star's "definitive song", and one of the "finest teen pop songs of its era". It was written by Dub Allbritten and Ronnie Self.On the UK Singles Chart, the song peaked at No. 12. According to the Billboard Book of Number One Hits by Fred Bronson, Brenda Lee recorded the song early in 1960 but her label, Decca Records, held it from release for several months out of concern that a 15-year-old girl was not mature enough to sing about unrequited love. When the song finally was released, it was considered to be the flip side of the more uptempo "That's All You Gotta Do". Although "That's All You Gotta Do" was a ...

Brenda goes All The Way with a big finish to a Frank Sinatra hit. Live on Canadian TV in early 1962. Lyrics below. "All The Way" Songwriters: Sammy Cahn (Lyric) & Jimmy Van Heusen (music) in 1957 If somebody loves you It's no good unless he loves you - all the way Happy to be near you When you need someone to cheer you - a-all the way Taller than the tallest tree is That's how it's got to feel Deeper than the deep blue sea is That's how deep it goes - if its real If somebody needs you It's no good unless he needs you - all the way Through the good or lean years And for all the in between years - co-ome what may Who knows where the road may lead us Only a fool would say But if you'll let me love you It's for sure I'm gonna love you - all the way, all the way Who knows, who knows whe...

Rex Allen introduces 12 year-old "Little Miss Dynamite" on a 1957 episode of the Ozark Jubilee TV Show. Brenda Lee was one of the earliest pop stars to have a major international following. In France she was billed as a 32 year-old singing midget.
This show is on Brenda's VEVO channel. Unfortunately, the audio is bad on that video. Very typical of the great care that the record company takes with her material. /sarcasm off The show was also uploaded by another user, but with poor resolution. Therefore, I decided to upload a better copy for enjoyment of all the Brenda fans. This show was recorded on September 3, 1974. Brenda recorded the song on 18 December 1972 at Bradley's Barn. It was released on her album entitled "Brenda" in March of 1973. Original Hit by Johnny Nash I Can See Clearly Now I can see clearly now the rain is gone I can see all obstacles in my way Gone all the dark clouds that made me blind It's gonna be a bright, (bright) bright, (bright) sun shiny day It's gonna be a bright, (bright) bright, (bright) sun shi...

Brenda sings (at various ages) throughout, starting at 8:16. At 11:16 she sings a song with Steve Allen. Sounds to me like she got her voice from her mother, who speaks in this video. While sitting in the audience of a Jackie Wilson show, Brenda gave a note with her phone number to a handsome guy (Ronnie Shacklett) sitting across the aisle. He called her and they ended up getting married - it was her first real date at 18 years old...

Brenda discusses her 2009 exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville. A medley from 1982 sees her overcoming a bad makeup job. The things artists have to put up with! There are some facts to correct in the stories here, but I'll do that later.

Brenda endures Ralph's dumb questions and sings her 1974 hit written by Shel Silverstein (1930-1999). Silverstein wrote hit songs for Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Dr Hook, Bobby Bare, Brenda Lee and others. Hilarity ensues when Brenda makes a verbal gaffe. "Big Four Poster Bed" was #4 on the country chart. This performance was recorded September 3, 1974. Although this show is labeled #108 (the eighth show of season 1), it was actually the first show of the series to be taped, but the eighth episode to air. There are some historical mistakes in the dialog. Brenda was 11 when she recorded Jambalaya. The record company, however, put "Little Brenda Lee", "9 years old" on the 45 record label. I've noticed that, in interviews, Brenda often gets confused about her age during certain events in 1950...
Back in 1960, when I was 11 years old, Brenda Lee's "I Want To Be Wanted" b/w "Just A Little" became the very first record I ever bought. Also, she was the first artist I ever saw in concert. I attended her 1961 show in my hometown of Panama City, Fl., saw her again a year later also at the auditorium and, in 1977, worked on the same venue with her at an exclusive New Year's Eve party in Navarre Beach, FL. In 1983 she played a concert at Derby Dinner Playhouse in Jeffersonville, Indiana, part of the downtown Louisville, Kentucky metro area, and I had the privilege of calling her Nashville home for a phone interview which was actually broadcast on two stations, Majic 100 FM and WCII-AM, to promote the show. She was her usual charming self, honest, down-to-earth, and talked freely about he...

Brenda Lee was born Brenda Mae Tarpley on Dec. 11, 1944, in Atlanta. She was the second daughter of Rubin and Grace Tarpley. The youngster showed distinctive vocal talent at age 3, won her first singing contest when she was 5 and was performing regularly on an Atlanta radio station when she was 7. It was at about that time that a TV producer in Augusta, Ga., changed her name to Brenda Lee. In 1953, when she was 9, her father died in a construction accident. Country singer Red Foley heard Lee when she was around 10 years old and subsequently invited her to appear with him on the popular TV show, Ozark Jubilee. Her popularity and high visibility soon won her guest shots on such popular network programs as The Ed Sullivan Show and The Perry Como Show. In 1956, Lee signed with Decca Records,...

Oh when you come home late with hardest reason
When you kiss me like your hardest reason
Do I worry do I worry do I worry
And when the songs you sing are sad and lonely
When you sit at home forget to phone me
Do I worry do I worry do I worry
Where do you go when you're not with me
There's a look in your eyes I don't like to see
Why don't you hold me like you use to do
I got a whole lot of loving just for you
But when your loving lips don't taste the same
And when you call me someone else's name
Well do I worry do I worry yes I do
Where do you go when you're not with me....
Over you I worry over you
