A little snippet of an unforgettable day I spent in Papua New Guinea in July last year, where I was on assignment covering the Rabaul Mask Festival. First, a sunrise ceremony on Kokopo Beach, which signified the landing of the Tolai indigenous people on the shores of East New Britain. Then, a series of song and dance performances from all over Papua New Guinea, with the dancers using feathered and painted costumes, towering headdresses and intricate, sacred masks to weave ancient ancestral tales. A bewitching ending to the day at Kainaguna village where I watched tribes from the Baining Mountains, dressed in grass capes and painted masks half as big as their bodies, run barefoot through a huge bonfire, chanting hypnotically to evoke ancestral spirits and kicking the embers as they went. Completely entrancing.
TEIL 2: Die ONTRAXS! wird auch als Championsleague der Modellbahnen oder Modellbahnolymp bezeichnet. Jedes Jahr im März findet in niederländischen Utrecht, im Het Spoorwegmuseum, die ONTRAXS statt, auf der die besten Modellbahnanlagen aus ganz Europa gezeigt werden. In 2016 war ich zum dritten Mal in Folge vor Ort. Und dieses mal waren die Anlagen noch sehenswerter als in den Vorjahren. Damit ich euch nicht mit einem 1,5 Stunden-Video "quälen" muss, gibt es die ONTRAXS 2016 in 3 verdaulichen Videos mit jeweils ca. 25 Minuten Dauer.

Das Modellbauteam Köln ist für große, imposante Anlagen bekannt. In diesem Kanal gibt es z.B. die Anlage mit dem norwegischen Fjord. Auch die neue US-Anlage besticht durch großzügige Landschaften, durch die lange Güter- und Personenwagen ihre Runden ziehen. Auf dem linken Anlagenteil dieser ca. 12x4 Meter großen Modellbahnanlage ist eine Gebirgslandschaft zu sehen, die an die Rocky Mountains erinnert. Große Brücken und Viadukte überqueren die schroffe Landschaft. Auf dem rechten Anlagenteil ist die typische amerikanische Prärie mit einer Kleinstadt zu sehen. Der Wolkenkratzer (ein Modell von Walthers) passt dort eigentlich nicht in die Szenerie, aber das soll den überaus positiven Eindruck dieser US-Anlage nicht trüben.

0n30 Model Railroad, owned by Macclesfield Model Railway Group. Narrow gauge (16,5mm) main line supported by an 8-road fiddle yard. Narrow gauge branch line with zigzag, interchange with main line and supported by its own turntable.
The Layout is situated South Western USA in the late 1930’s. It is 10,1 Meter long (33 ft), 3,1 meter wide (10 ft) and 2,1 high (7 ft). It consists of 6 Modules and is purely fictitious. The Digital Layout control runs with DCC.
DEUTSCH:
0n30 Modellbahn (Maßstab 1:48), erbaut von der Macclesfield Modellbahn Gruppe aus Cheshire, England. Diese Schmalspur-Modellbahn mit Spurweite 16,5 mm hat eine Hauptstrecke und Nebenabzweige. Die Modellbahnanlage hat die Maße 10,1 x 3,1 Meter und ist 2,1 Meter hoch. Sie besteht aus 6 einzelnen Modulen und wird digital per DCC gesteuert. Thema ist eine Minenbahn im Südwesten der USA in den 30er Jahren.
Diese Anlage war u.a. auf der Messe ModellBAHN Bremen 2014 (ehemals EuroModell) ausgestellt, wo auch diese Aufnahmen entstanden.

Der bekannte belgische Spur 1 Modellbahner Paul Schraepen und sein Team sind Erbauer dieser Modellbahnanlage nach US Vorbild. Wie auch bei seinen anderen Spur 1 Anlagen wählt er ein Gleisoval, deren Kurven in eiem Tunnen verlaufen und auf beiden Seiten befinden sich verschiedene Motive. Die Anlage war auf der Euromodell Bremen ausgestellt.

Der Verein Furka Bergstrecke hat auch einige Mitglieder, die sich mit der Bahn im Modell beschäftigen. Diese H0m Modelbahnanlage im Maßstab 1:87, Spurweite 12 mm, auf Code 70 Gleis, nahm schon an mehr als 60 Modellbahnausstellungen und Modellbaumessen im In- und Ausland teil.
Gebaut wurde nach Furka-Modul Norm. Jedes Modul hat eine Länge von 1 bis 1,5 Meter und eine Tiefe von 50 cm.
Die eingleisige Strecke windet sich durch eine alpine Landschaft. Realitätsnah gibt es die Bahnhöfe Realp, Tiefenbach, Muttbach, Gletsch und Oberwald, die Wilerbrücke, die Steffenbachbrücke, den Steinstafelviadukt, die Siedelenbachbrücke, den Rottenviadukt und den Lammenviadukt.

A little snippet of an unforgettable day I spent in Papua New Guinea in July last year, where I was on assignment covering the Rabaul Mask Festival. Then, a series of song and dance performances from all over Papua New Guinea, with the dancers using feathered and painted costumes, towering headdresses and intricate, sacred masks to weave ancient ancestral tales. A bewitching ending to the day at Kainaguna village where I watched tribes from the Baining Mountains, dressed in grass capes and painted masks half as big as their bodies, run barefoot through a huge bonfire, chanting hypnotically to evoke ancestral spirits and kicking the embers as they went. Completely entrancing. -

Der Verein Furka Bergstrecke hat auch einige Mitglieder, die sich mit der Bahn im Modell beschäftigen. Diese H0m Modelbahnanlage im Maßstab 1:87, Spurweite 12 mm, auf Code 70 Gleis, nahm schon an mehr als 60 Modellbahnausstellungen und Modellbaumessen im In- und Ausland teil. Gebaut wurde nach Furka-Modul Norm. Jedes Modul hat eine Länge von 1 bis 1,5 Meter und eine Tiefe von 50 cm. Die eingleisige Strecke windet sich durch eine alpine Landschaft. Realitätsnah gibt es die Bahnhöfe Realp, Tiefenbach, Muttbach, Gletsch und Oberwald, die Wilerbrücke, die Steffenbachbrücke, den Steinstafelviadukt, die Siedelenbachbrücke, den Rottenviadukt und den Lammenviadukt. -

First, a sunrise ceremony on Kokopo Beach, which signified the landing of the Tolai indigenous people on the shores of East New Britain. Then, a series of song and dance performances from all over Papua New Guinea, with the dancers using feathered and painted costumes, towering headdresses and intricate, sacred masks to weave ancient ancestral tales. A bewitching ending to the day at Kainaguna village where I watched tribes from the Baining Mountains, dressed in grass capes and painted masks half as big as their bodies, run barefoot through a huge bonfire, chanting hypnotically to evoke ancestral spirits and kicking the embers as they went. Completely entrancing.

Watam is a village of 300 people near the mouth of the Sepik, and one of its seven clan chiefs leads a band of singers and drummers to meet us.Villagers give us a warm welcome. Some dancers are wearing a Dragon costume and are waiting for us to arrive, to lead us into their village.We witness a flag raising ceremony with the local children reciting the Papua Oath of Allegiance and singing the Papua New Guinea National Anthem.
Costumed dancing goes on for the entire time of our visit, and representatives from other villages have come to Watam bringing their handicrafts for sale.

This is the raw edit of my return to the industry, "FireDance". All violin, guitar and percussion done by me, copyright 2012. So far I have 17 tracks done, probably 5 more to go, then edit, mix, process and finally make a real video (already in progress). This is just to give a little taste to all the people who have been asking me what I've been working on in the studio :)
Please realize this is far from done, some of what you hear will be removed so it flows together more smoothly and more will be added. Each track has to be laid one at a time going through all 8+ minutes of the song layering what I hear in my head for the final product :) I have 38 years experience (violin, guitar and hand percussion, as well as many other instruments, those are just what I want to concentrate on now) in everything from classical to heavy metal, but it's time to do MY music.
I love world and world rock, as well as rock and hip hop etc. and have SO many songs written in my head that I want to record. I just don't have any financial backing right now and am not with any label at the moment, so it's going slowly. Once I get stuff recorded I want to move to a town with a kick ass music scene again, put together a new group or find a group that wants to work with me, and get back on the road....lol :P I've been laid up for so long from the accident and it's time to get back at it :)

It is a wickedly wild river, one my former partner in Sobek, John Yost, rafted in 1992, and barely survived for the capsizes and crocs. Past the Baines Mountains, blue islands in a sea of damask sand, the river narrows into a slot gorge, and does a twist to reveal Epupa Falls ... U.S ... ... ... Starting yesterday we had been moving towards the Baines Mountains, big cliffed-out sandstone peaks named after an early explorer who walked through here....
