Prem Chopra

Prem Chopra (born 23 September 1935) is an Indian actor in Hindi and Punjabi films. He has acted in 320 films over a span of over 50 years. He has a soft spoken diction despite being a villain in most films.

Personal life and education

Prem Chopra, the third of six children of Ranbirlal and Rooprani Chopra, a Punjabi Hindu family, was born on 23 September 1935, in Lahore. After the partition of India, his family moved to Shimla, where he was brought up. His father desired that Prem be a doctor or an Indian Administrative Services officer.

Prem Chopra completed his schooling and college from Shimla after his father, who was a government servant, got transferred there. He graduated from Punjab University. He took part in college dramatics enthusiastically. At his father's insistence, he completed his graduation and then went to Mumbai. Soon after he made his debut film, his mother was detected with mouth cancer and she died, leaving his then nine-year-old sister Anju to be looked after by his father and his four other brothers. The brothers had given warning to their respective wives that only if their sister is happy would they be happy and Prem considers his sister as his first daughter. Noted writer-director Lekh Tandon brought the proposal of Uma for marriage to Prem. Uma was the younger sister of the siblings Krishna Kapoor, Prem Nath and Rajendranath. The couple have three daughters, Rakita, Punita and Prerna Chopra. Rakita is married to film publicity designer Rahul Nanda. Punita owns a pre-school called Wind Chimes in Bandra, suburban Mumbai, and is married to singer and television actor Vikas Bhalla. Prerna is married to Bollywood actor Sharman Joshi. He resides in a duplex apartment in Pali Hill, Bandra in Mumbai.

Feeling threatened, they inform their bus-driver father, Pritam, who goes to confront Gopal and Laxman, and finds out that their mother, Geeta P. Chopra, is his long-lost love. Gopal's girlfriend, Daboo, overhears their conversation, and gets them dramatically married - just in time as Pritam is heavily in debt and is about to be evicted by goons led by Raghav. Chaos and violent confrontations will become the order when he takes his children to live with Geeta, and the newly married couple may conclude that divorce may be the only solution to end their respective children's disputes.

Plot: Laxmikant Kabadiya and his twin-sister, Prerna, started as mere beggars near Dadar Railway Station, and with the assistance of Vidyut Baba, they moved to collecting garbage, and recyclables, established their own recycling business, slowly acquired wealth and became multi-millionaires. Laxmikant went on to get married and sired two sons, Sameer and Ranjeet, who, in turn, went on to get married to Anju and Shruti. While Ranjeet has two daughters, Sanjana and Namrata, Sameer has one son, Pawan. Vidyut Baba, a Bi-sexual, is now their family Guru, and they have a trusted family servant named Ramu. The Kabadia family is now ready to launch it's first Public Offering, which will generate Crores of Rupees. The entire family is all set to enjoy this new-found wealth when they find out that while being intimate with a sexy, struggling actress, Kim, widower Laxmikant has passed away. The entire family know that this will ruin their future plans and decide to keep his death a secret. They threaten Kim with dire consequences and criminal charges, and let her flee. Unfortunately for them, Ramu finds out and starts to blackmail them collectively for jewelry and cash. The desperate family is all set to secretly cremate Laxmikant, but things get out of hand and they, after buying the dead body of a poor man, announce the death of Laxmikant's cousin. Amidst media frenzy, the Kabadias arrange for the public appearance of Laxmikant, followed quickly by another funeral, this time of an unknown Christian male, who they pass off as another family relative. Watch what happens when Ramu goes live on TV to announce the untimely passing away of a very much alive Vidyut Baba, throwing open a virtual Pandora's box. Amidst hilarious chaos, the family's lives are complicated even more when they find out to their shock that Laxmikant was leading a dual life and had sired a third son from another woman.

Plot: Mr. Nath lives a very wealthy lifestyle in India along with his wife, Sushma, and a 6 year old son, Raj. Both he and Sushma lead a very busy life, so much so that they have no quality time to spend with Raj, leaving his care, even breast-feeding, to their maidservant, Mrs. Braganza, who Raj regards as his mother. When Mr. Nath finds Raj to be precocious, he has him enrolled in a distant boarding school. When Raj returns after 12 years, he does not find any change, save that Mrs. Braganza does not work there anymore as she has been fired by Sushma. At his 18th birthday party, he meets with flirtatious Nima, and this is when he sets his eyes on Bobby, Mrs. Braganza's 16 year old granddaughter, and falls head over heels in love with her. To his delight he finds that she also loves him, much to the chagrin of his parents, who agree to meet with Bobby's dad, Jack, and Mrs. Braganza, but humiliate them. This does not deter Raj and Bobby and they continue to meet, so much so that Mr. Nath instructs him not to leave the house or he will have him and the entire Braganza family arrested if they attempt to get the young couple married, as they are minors and must attain the age of 21 to be married. Raj decides to wait for 2 more years and accordingly writes to Bobby. Raj will soon realize that his parents have already selected a wife for him, in the shape and form of Alka Sharma, the only daughter of wealthy Mr. Sharma. Watch what impact this has on Raj on the occasion of his surprise engagement to Alka.
