Crewe /kruː/ is a railway town and civil parish within the unitary authority area of Cheshire East and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. The area has a population of roughly 84,000. Crewe is perhaps best known as a large railway junction and home to Crewe Works, for many years a major railway engineering facility for manufacturing and overhauling locomotives, but now much reduced in size. From 1946 until 2002 it was also the home of Rolls-Royce motor car production. The Pyms Lane factory on the west of the town now produces Bentley motor cars exclusively. Crewe is 158 miles north of London, 243 miles south of Glasgow and 35 miles south of Manchester
Although the name Creu first appears in the Domesday Book, the modern urban settlement of Crewe was not formally planned out until 1843 by Joseph Locke to consolidate the "railway colony" that had grown up since around 1840–41 in the area near to the railway junction station opened in 1837, even though it was called Crewe by many, from the start. Crewe was thus named after the railway station, rather than the other way round.
Crewe Alexandra Football Club is a professional football club in Crewe, Cheshire, England. Nicknamed The Railwaymen because of the town's links with the rail industry, they play at Gresty Road and are currently in Football League One, the third tier of the English football league system.
The club was formed in 1877 and named after Princess Alexandra. They were founding members of the Football League Second Division in 1892, but only lasted four years in the League. Since re-entering the competition in 1921, they have mostly remained in the lower divisions. Crewe's only major honour is the Football League Trophy which they won in 2013. They have also won several minor trophies, including the Cheshire Premier Cup and the Cheshire Senior Cup.
In recent decades, the club has been associated with manager Dario Gradi whose 24-year tenure between 1983 and 2007 made him the longest-serving manager in English football; he had a further two-year spell in the role from 2009 to 2011. Gradi is known for focusing on youth development and promoting attractive, technical football. Notable players brought through the Crewe youth system include former internationals Rob Jones, Neil Lennon, Danny Murphy, Seth Johnson and Dean Ashton. Other notable players to have made their name at Crewe in that time include Geoff Thomas, David Platt and Robbie Savage.
Port Vale Football Club is a football club in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, England, which plays in League One, the third tier of the English football league system.
Port Vale is one of the few English league clubs not to be named after a geographical location, their name being a reference to the valley of ports on the Trent and Mersey Canal. They were founder members of the Second Division in 1892 and of the Fourth Division in 1958. After playing at the Athletic Ground in Cobridge and The Old Recreation Ground in Hanley, the club returned to Burslem when Vale Park was opened in 1950. Outside the ground is a statue to Roy Sproson who played 842 competitive games for the club.
The club greatest success was in the 1950s when they were FA Cup semi-finalists in 1954 and won two divisional titles with Freddie Steele's "Iron Curtain" defence and then Norman Low's more attacking style. John Rudge was manager from 1983 to 1999; under his leadership the club reached eighth in the second tier in the 1996–97 season. Since his reign the club have declined, slipping into the fourth tier whilst entering administration in 2003 and 2012. The decline was arrested when Paul Wildes and Norman Smurthwaite bought the club out of Administration in 2012 and manager Micky Adams achieved automatic promotion from League Two in the 2012–13 season.
Football League Two (often referred to as League Two for short or Sky Bet League 2 for sponsorship reasons) is the third-highest division of The Football League and fourth-highest division overall in the English football league system.
Football League Two was introduced for the 2004–05 season. It was previously known as the Football League Third Division. Before the advent of the Premier League, the fourth-highest division was known as the Football League Fourth Division.
At present (2014–15 season), Accrington Stanley hold the longest tenure in League Two, last being outside the division in the 2005–06 season when they were promoted from the Conference Premier.
There are 24 clubs in Football League Two. Each club plays each of the other clubs twice (once at home, once away) and is awarded three points for a win, one for a draw and no points for a loss. From these points a league table is constructed.
At the end of each season the top three teams, together with the winner of the play-offs between the teams which finished in fourth–seventh position, are promoted to Football League One and are replaced by the four teams that finished bottom of that division.

On 4 December 2014, it was announced that Sky would sell a majority stake in the company to CVC Capital Partners, valued at £800 million. The sale was completed on 19 March 2015, with Sky retaining a 20% stake in the company and agreeing a long-term licence of the Sky brand.
Sky Bet is the sports betting division of Sky Betting & Gaming, with the majority of its operations run from Leeds. The company allows betting via its website, telephone, mobile apps and interactive television through Sky. On Friday 23rd September we caught a train from Holmes Chapel, Cheshire and travelled all the way to Lake Como in Italy. We travelled from Holmes Chapel to London (change at Crewe) then overnight in London. On Saturday morning we travelled to Paris, had lunch then continued to Zurich. We spent two nights in Zurich before heading to Chur for the Bernina Express. The Bernina Express train was wonderful, a magical train ride through the alps to Northern Italy. We arrived at Tirano, had lunch then continued to Lake Como (change at Monza). We planned our trip with the helpful information from the man at seat 61.
This video shows the key trains from our time at Crewe and Manchester Piccadilly. Doncaster has been included as it was on our return journey. We see some usual passenger services along with multiple freight movements. Also two 37s from Crewe - DRS Crewe Gresty Bridge move. Enjoy the video. As some of you might know, I am a huge, and I mean huge, Beatles fan, and the place in the world I've always wanted to go, as a Beatles fan is LIVERPOOL, England! So finally last week I went there. Caught a Virgin train from London Euston station to Liverpool Lime street station, which normally would take about two hours, but that day a lorry (truck) hit a bridge up ahead of us and our train was delayed about 40 minutes while the engineers were inspecting the bridge.

Down at Crewe Station once again for without a doubt, one of the best spotting days of 2014! Met loads of new people and loads of sights were captured on this day. Richard Harnetty - https://www.youtube.com/user/lfc35028 Robert Smith - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNIJ5G4RF57Z5FHN7QMXl5A Action that happened is listed below: - First of all, we see a few seconds of shots from Platform 12 when I arrived. At first, I was expecting the two Black 5's to be there; but due to 45407 having a 'hot box' and signal failures at Manchester, the tour to Pengam Sidings from Manchester Victoria was massively delayed. - After waiting an hour for the Black 5's, I headed to Platform 9 for the first tour of the morning. 57314/57315 is seen ...

Paid a visit to Crewe to get various tours and other action going on in the day. The day was patchy, but steady in terms of action. Highlights of the day included the three Class 86's that made visits during the day. It then left 23 minutes late. - 45699 'Galatea' is seen arriving into Platform 12 working 5Z60 Carnforth Steamtown to Crewe. - 86259 'Les Ross/Peter Pan' is seen arriving and departing Platform 6 working 1Z8...
Well tried Crewe once again to get the next lot of diversions. As some people will know, the last overnighter session went wrong. However, this nighter was much more successful and plenty more station freight was caught; not much modal shunting operations were caught during the nighter however. Many thanks to Virgin Trains for the permission and the lads I was with for making the nighter very enjoyable. With Norton Bridge closed once again for engineering work in various places, freight was diverted via Hixon, Stoke-on-Trent and Alsager. The diversions started around 23:00 and then got into full swing by around Midnight/1am, with plenty of freight sighted passing through the station. A sight which is not normally seen at night. Below is what happened during the nighter: - DB Cargo 6609...
Another visit to Crewe and another decent day of some decent action. The day was patchy with big gaps, but the wait ended up being worth it for all movements. As I will admit, I missed the last Greater Anglia 170 drag from Crewe C.S., I didn't want to miss it once again. The next 170 to come up to Crewe was originally going to end up coming up Saturday afternoon, but it fortunately did not run. It got re-timed to Monday and here we are at this video. I must also add that during the day, other great movements happened which includes 47760 on 5V42, 66 dragging a DBC 92 and a DBC four loco convoy! Here is a very wide range of trains that we filmed at Crewe train station in the year 2014. As usual crewe is a brilliant place for trainspotting and we certainly weren't disappointed last year so sit back and enjoy our videos. Here's what we saw: 1. 68002 TnT 47501 on 5Z73 Derby RTC - Crewe on 06.02.14. 2. 97304 on 0Z97 Coleham - Coleham 'Route Learner' on 06.02.14. 3. 47790 TnT 47832 on 5Z38 Crewe CS - Chester on 06.02.14. 4. 66421 on 4s44 Daventry - Coatbridge on 06.02.14. 5. 66170 on 6M48 Southampton - Halewood(Jaguar cars) on 06.02.14. 6. 37604 TnT DBSO 9701 on 1Q14 on Crewe CS - Derby RTC on 13.03.14. 7. 37409 on 0Z37 Crewe GB - Derby RTC on 13.03.14. 8. 47245 & 47580 on 5M43 Southall - Carnforth ECS move on 13.03.14. 9. 180112 on 5Z80 Longsight - Heaton on 13.03.14. 10. 70010 on ...
My first proper double bill, coming from 2 of my favourite stations in Crewe and Chester. Plenty of train action in this vid, including loads of Virgin 390s and 221s, loads of London Midland 350s, loads of Arriva 175s and 150s, some Northern Rail 323s, 150s and a 142, a sole East Midlands 153 and at least 4 Merseyrail 507s/508s. Also there's a DRS 57, a Freightliner 90, a DB Schenker 66, the Arriva WAG train (at long last!), and of course 35038 'Clan Line' included
Vile forms of Necros lie rotting my mind
Feasting like maggots - maggots in flesh
So left your ruined cortex behind
Now the maggot knows glee as it nibbles on your spine!
[Chorus:]
Maggots! Maggots!
Maggots are falling like rain!
Putrid pus-pools vomit blubonic plague
The bowels of the beast reek of puke
How to describe such vileness on the page
World maggot waits for the end of the age!
[Chorus]
Beneath a sky of maggots I walked
Until those maggots began to fall
I gaped at God to receive my gift
Bathed in maggots till the planet shit
[Repeat chorus a lot]
