New human rights course developed for Ukrainian judges

UNDP supported the development of a tailor-made course for judges focused on respect of human rights in criminal proceedings. It was introduced at the National School of Judges of Ukraine in July 2017. It’s expected that this new tool could contribute to efficient human rights protection and decrease of cases of illegal detention and torture.

Ministry of Health has signed agreements with international organizations to purchase medicines for Ukraine for budget funds in 2017

In 2017, procurement of medicines for Ukraine will be carried out by the United Nations Development Program, the UNICEF Children's Fund and the Crown Agents UK procurement agency. International organizations will purchase medicines in 39 state programs for a total of 5.9 billion UAH.

[OUR PERSPECTIVE] Energy efficiency investment rises, but falls short of needs

But a lack of expertise and investment capital are slowing progress, according to civil society groups and non-governmental organizations. The United Nations Development Program and the American government’s development agency, the U. S. Agency for International Development, are working to address the shortcomings. Their programs tie into goals that Ukraine has set for itself at the national level, with Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman saying on July 12 that Ukraine should seek to become energy independent by 2020.

A growth hormone for children with dwarfism and cancer treatments delivered to Ukrainian patients

A large batch of medicines for cancer patients and a growth hormone for children under the age of ten have been delivered to Ukraine. The growth hormone will help 837 children who suffer from dwarfism of different origins. The medicine, manufactured in Belgium, was procured by the United Nations Development Program within the framework of international procurement of medicines for budget funds of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

UNDP is launching a call for applications for organizational development grants available for regional mid-sized civil society organizations (CSOs). The purpose of this programme is to establish a network of regional capacity building hubs for CSO development.
