Listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places, the neighborhood of Forest Hill was designated by the city of Newark as a historic district in 1990. It is a pre-World War II neighborhood flanked on the west by Branch Brook Park, on the south by Bloomfield Avenue and on the east by both Summer and Mt. Prospect Avenues.
Taking a ride through the Forest Hill section of Newark may confuse first-time visitors. The quiet streets, large historic mansions and upscale suburban atmosphere are in stark contrast to Brick City´s more urban reputation.
Originally developed between 1880 and 1925 by three great Newark families -- the Clarks, Hellers and Ballantines -- the area soon grew into a mansion-type district with some of the finest homes in the state.
The area consists of approximately 1,200 residential homes and boasts an eclectic mix of architectural designs (including Beaux-Arts, Victorian, Colonial Revival, Gothic Revival, Spanish Revival) and an active neighborhood association. Listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places, the neighborhood was designated by the city of Newark as a historic district in 1990. Along with their mansions, the wealthy of Forest Hill also developed scores of social and literary clubs. Other than the homes, landmarks include the old Tiffany factory, the Branch Brook branch of the Newark Public Library, the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart and the Ballantine Gates, serving as an entrance to Branch Brook park. The park, nearly 4 miles long and a quarter-mile wide, hosts ta number of events throughout the year, such as movies in the park, outdoor concerts, the Farmers´ & Community Market and the annual Cherry Blossom Festival.
The Commute
A light rail line, with a station in Branch Brook Park, takes commuters to downtown Newark in about 12 minutes. From there, a New Jersey Transit train into Pennsylvania Station in New York adds another 15 minutes.
Buses running along Mount Prospect Avenue provide regular service to Port Authority in New York.
Driving to New York City from the neighborhood, via Route 280 and the New Jersey Turnpike, takes 20 to 25 minutes, barring traffic problems.

Highland
The term highland or uplands is used to denote any mountainous region or elevated mountainous plateau. Generally speaking, upland (or uplands) tends to refer to ranges of hills, typically up to 500-600 m. Highland (or highlands) is usually reserved for ranges of low mountains.
Highlands worldwide
Probably the most known highlands in the anglophone world are the Scottish Highlands in the United Kingdom, the mountainous region north and west of the Highland Boundary Fault. The Highland council area is a local government area in the Scottish Highlands and Britain's largest local government area.
Many countries have areas that are officially or unofficially referred to as highlands. Other than Scotland, these include parts Ethiopia, Kenya, Eritrea, Yemen, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Syria, Cantabria and Nova Scotia (the latter being Latin for 'New Scotland' due to its resemblance to the country).

The area consists of approximately 1,200 residential homes and boasts an eclectic mix of architectural designs (including Beaux-Arts, Victorian, Colonial Revival, Gothic Revival, Spanish Revival) and an active neighborhood association. Along with their mansions, the wealthy of Forest Hill also developed scores of social and literary clubs. Other than the homes, landmarks include the old Tiffany factory, the Branch Brook branch of the Newark Public Library, the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart and the Ballantine Gates, serving as an entrance to Branch Brook park. The park, nearly 4 miles long and a quarter-mile wide, hosts ta number of events throughout the year, such as movies in the park, outdoor concerts, the Farmers´ & Community Market and the annual Cherry Blossom Festival.
The Commute
A light rail line, with a station in Branch Brook Park, takes commuters to downtown Newark in about 12 minutes. From there, a New Jersey Transit train into Pennsylvania Station in New York adds another 15 minutes.
Buses running along Mount Prospect Avenue provide regular service to Port Authority in New York.
Driving to New York City from the neighborhood, via Route 280 and the New Jersey Turnpike, takes 20 to 25 minutes, barring traffic problems.

The area consists of approximately 1,200 residential homes and boasts an eclectic mix of architectural designs (including Beaux-Arts, Victorian, Colonial Revival, Gothic Revival, Spanish Revival) and an active neighborhood association. Listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places, the neighborhood was designated by the city of Newark as a historic district in 1990. Along with their mansions, the wealthy of Forest Hill also developed scores of social and literary clubs. Other than the homes, landmarks include the old Tiffany factory, the Branch Brook branch of the Newark Public Library, the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart and the Ballantine Gates, serving as an entrance to Branch Brook park. The park, nearly 4 miles long and a quarter-mile wide, hosts ta number of events throughout the year, such as movies in the park, outdoor concerts, the Farmers´ & Community Market and the annual Cherry Blossom Festival.
The Commute
A light rail line, with a station in Branch Brook Park, takes commuters to downtown Newark in about 12 minutes. From there, a New Jersey Transit train into Pennsylvania Station in New York adds another 15 minutes.
Buses running along Mount Prospect Avenue provide regular service to Port Authority in New York.
Driving to New York City from the neighborhood, via Route 280 and the New Jersey Turnpike, takes 20 to 25 minutes, barring traffic problems.

Police Chase Los Angeles Ends on Walk of Fame March 9 2017
Los Angeles police chased a stolen car suspect Thursday evening through the San Fernando Valley and the pursuit came to a dramatic end on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Authorities said the blue Dodge Avenger was reported stolen on Hollywood Boulevard at about 6:45 p.m. The suspect drove north on the 101 Freeway through Woodland Hills, Tarzana, Sherman Oaks and Studio City. The suspect exited on New Hampshire Avenue in Hollywood and led police on a slow-speed chase through surface streets before getting back onto the 101 Freeway. Melrose Avenue is a shopping, dining and entertainment destination in Los Angeles that starts at Santa Monica Boulevard, at the border between Beverly Hills and West Hollywood. It ends at Lucille Avenue in Silver Lake. Melrose runs north of Beverly Boulevard and south of Santa Monica Boulevard.
Its most famous section, known as the Melrose District, is the West End through West Hollywood and Hollywood.

The original Johnny Rockets opened in this end of Melrose in 1986. Long-term stakeholders like The Groundlings, l.a.Eyeworks, Angeli Caffe and Sportie LA have shown continued dedication to the community. In 2005, musician and director Joe Hahn, member of the rock band Linkin Park, opened his concept retail store SURU on the 7600 block of Melrose. Canadian designer John Fluevog opened on Melrose in 2003. As one of the city's most walking-friendly neighborhoods, this must-see destination has maintained its reputation for an original, alternative and independent experience for more than three decades.
Since 1997, the Melrose Trading Post outdoor flea market has created opportunities for Fairfax High School and the surrounding neighborhood. Every Sunday 250+ local vendors, collectors, artisans, and artists gather in the parking lot on the corner of Melrose and Fairfax Avenues to celebrate the thriving community culture. Food vendors and live music round out this weekly local event hosted by the Greenway Arts Alliance. Money raised by this nonprofit organization from the low-cost patron admission and vendor booth fees fuel a thriving arts education program on the FHS campus called, Institute for the Arts at Greenway.
At the corner of Highland and Melrose is what has been described by the Los Angeles Times as the "boss of LA's Italian dining scene", Osteria Mozza (See Los Angeles Times, Thursday, August 7, 2007, pg. E46), which marks the eastern end of the Fairfax District.

In 1946, Gene Autry, while riding his horse in the Hollywood Christmas Parade — which passes down Hollywood Boulevard each year on the Sunday after Thanksgiving — heard young parade watchers yelling, "Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus!" and was inspired to write "Here Comes Santa Claus" with Oakley Haldeman.[1]
In 1958, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which runs from Gower Street to La Brea Avenue (and an additional three blocks on Vine Street), was created as a tribute to artists working in the entertainment industry.
The Hollywood extension of the Metro Red Line subway was opened in June 1999, running from Downtown Los Angeles to the San Fernando Valley. Stops on Hollywood Boulevard are located at Western Avenue, Vine Street, and Highland Avenue. Metro Local lines 180, 181, and 217, and Metro Rapid line 780 also serve Hollywood Boulevard. An anti-cruising ordinance prohibits driving on parts of the boulevard more than twice in four hours. Today, the Boulevard is a popular tourist destination and is always crowded with cars and people.
Beginning in 1995, then Los Angeles City Council member Jackie Goldberg initiated efforts to clean up Hollywood Boulevard and reverse its decades-long slide into disrepute.[3] Central to these efforts was the construction of the Hollywood and Highland Center and adjacent Dolby Theatre (originally known as the Kodak Theater) in 2001.
In early 2006, the city made revamping plans on Hollywood Boulevard for future tourists. The three-part plan was to exchange the original streetlights with red stars into two-headed old-fashioned streetlights, put in new palm trees, and put in new stoplights. The renovations were completed in late 2006.
In the few years leading up to 2007, more than $2 billion was spent on projects in the neighborhood, including mixed-use retail and apartment complexes and new schools and museums.[3]
A popular event that takes place on the Boulevard is the complete transformation of the street to a Christmas theme. Shops and department stores attract customers by lighting their stores and the entire street with decorated Christmas trees and Christmas lights. The street essentially becomes "Santa Claus Lane."

The 1997 film Volcano features the boulevard being destroyed by volcanic lava. On March 9, 1997, American East Coastrapper The Notorious B.I.G. was seated in the front passenger seat of an SUV, which came to a stop at the red light at the intersection of Wilshire and Fairfax.
Another vehicle pulled up next to them, and the driver drew out a pistol and shot B.I.G. four times in a drive-by shooting, killing him.
Running 15.83 miles (25.48 km) from Grand Avenue in Downtown Los Angeles to Ocean Avenue in the City of Santa Monica, Wilshire Boulevard is densely developed throughout most of its span, connecting five of Los Angeles's major business districts to each other, as well as Beverly Hills.

Los Angeles police chased a stolen car suspect Thursday evening through the San Fernando Valley and the pursuit came to a dramatic end on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Authorities said the blue Dodge Avenger was reported stolen on Hollywood Boulevard at about 6:45 p.m.
The suspect drove north on the 101 Freeway through Woodland Hills, Tarzana, Sherman Oaks and Studio City.
The suspect exited on New Hampshire Avenue in Hollywood and led police on a slow-speed chase through surface streets before getting back onto the 101 Freeway.
After a brief stint on the freeway, the suspect exited again, this time onto Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. The suspect through surface streets, eventually getting onto Hollywood Boulevard.
The suspect made frequent stops while driving slowly down the Hollywood Walk of Fame. At one point, a large group of spectators watched as officers attempted to stop the suspect.
At about 8:25 p.m., officers boxed the suspect in and took the man into custody at Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue as a large group of spectators watched.
Witnesses and tourists captured videos and photos of the bizarre scene along the iconic road.
No one was hurt during the incident.
