VARIOUS - BACK TO THE SUMMER OF... (2011)

If you do remember the first two volumes posted in 2009 and 2010, what would be PPC without another Summer compilation? I sincerely hope this new volume will be the perfect soundtrack to a sparkling power pop summer.

Special note: I made a complete set of artwork including full details of each release featured in this collection.

SPINNING JENNIES - POP 'N SERVE (1996)

The exceptional power pop trio Spinning Jennies demonstrate their craft confidently on this 1996 sophomore release. Tighter than their Cool Buzz Records debut the previous year, "Pop 'N Serve"'s apt title suggests the crunchy guitars and sweet melodies contained within. Singer/guitarist Jeff Shelton powers the disc's ten tracks with sugary riffs and squeaky-clean vocals.

Jeff Shelton is now fronting The Well Wishers. All of their albums can be ordered from any online store.

JOHN WICKS - SUMMER 2011

John Wicks, lead singer of The Records and co-writer of the hit songs "Starry Eyes" and "Hearts In Her Eyes", has an idea he'd like to share.

For the entire summer, John will be posting a free, rare demo or outtake every week on the band's Facebook fan page. Starting June 13 go to The Records Featuring John Wicks, "like" the page, and you'll be treated to that week's feature outtake or demo. Most if not all of these cuts have never seen the light of day and promise to be a real treat, both for those familiar with Wicks' work as well as those who just dig good, melodic pop of the highest order. Eventually some but not all of these tracks will appear on an upcoming CD release, but the only way to make sure you hear them all is to check out John's fanpage. Go to The Records Featuring John Wicks and click "Like", refresh your browser, and the mp3 will be available to you...FOR FREE. Check out The Records' main website at John Wicks & The Records.com for news, tour, or any other additional information about the band.

Here at PPC we support John Wicks, the previously posted "A Sunny Afternoon in Waterloo" is still available.

PAUL CHASTAIN - HALO (1985)

Before joining forces, Ric Menck and singer/bassist Paul Chastain pursued the pop muse separately in different parts of Illinois. Menck was half of the Reverbs.

Paul Chastain reached 12-inch vinyl shortly thereafter, with a solo EP. The teasingly brief six-song "Halo" is a real charmer, tender and skillfully realized originals that brush against R.E.M. pep, Beatlesque wistfulness and modest approximations of studio grandiloquence, all buoyed by Paul Chastain's sweet voice and confident aplomb.

After working for a time as Pop the Balloon with future solo artist and producer Adam Schmitt, Menck formed Choo Choo Train (and the side groups Bag O'Shells and the Springfields for good measure) with Paul Chastain in the late '80 - Velvet Crush with Jeff Borchardt.

Special note: This is a brand new rip of the very scarce Paul Chastain mini album. It was recorded in 24 bit/96khz. I converted the WAV in mp3 (320) and FLAC 24bit/44.1khz. I totally revamped the artwork, adding a tray, an inlay and the original inner promo sheet to the custom booklet. The first rip had been posted in May 2007 on PPC.
