Santería, also known as Regla de Ochá or La Regla de Ifá, is a syncretic religion of Caribbean origin that developed in the Spanish Empire among West African descendants. Santería is influenced by and syncretized with Roman Catholicism. Its liturgical language, a dialect of Yoruba, is also known as Lucumí.
Santería is a system of beliefs that merges aspects of Yoruba mythology that were brought to the New World by Yoruba slaves, along with Christianity and Indigenous American traditions. The slaves carried with them various religious customs, including a trance and divination system for communicating with their ancestors and deities, animal sacrifice, and sacred drumming and dance. The need to preserve their traditions and belief systems in a hostile cultural environment prompted slaves in Cuba, starting from as early as 1515, to merge their customs with aspects of Roman Catholicism.
This religious tradition evolved into what we now recognize as Santería.
In order to preserve and shield (mask) their traditional beliefs, the Lucumí people syncretized their Orichás with Roman Catholic saints. (As a consequence, the terms "saint" and "orichá" are commonly used interchangeably among practitioners.) Spanish colonial planters who saw their African slaves celebrating on saints' days did not know that they were actually performing rituals related to Orichás, and assumed that they were showing more interest in Catholic saints than in the Christian God—hence the derisory origin of the term Santería.

Santeria documentary. Santeria is a cuban syncretic religion combining elements of African, animist, fetishist and Christian beliefs, also called yoruba religion. Santeria is to Cuba what Vodoo is to Haiti or Umbanda to Brazil. Officiating priests are called babalaos and lead the sacrifices. Dressed in white, they deal with cases like that of Olga, who is afraid of men that make fun of her. In this ceremony, it is the oracle of Ochú, God of creation, that divines. Two coconuts are thrown to the ground and the interpretation varies depending on which way up they land. It is the supreme god Olofi who will finally decide if a sacrifice is to be made. Approval is given, and with the permission of the gods, a chicken is decapitated as an offering. Its bloody death may take one life, but serves...

Now it's too late to be using my mind
To reason with you would be far too kind
It's all coming down like the dark on the town
The cold stings my tearstained face
So now it's all over, it's much too late to say 'Oh no'
I try not to echo everyone's dream
But they don't exist or so it seems
They just live inside of me
But it's too dark I can never ever see you
And now it's all over, it's much too late to say 'Oh no'
Oh, she looked so lovely, standing on her own
Oh, she looked so lonely, standing all alone
She looked at me as she closed the door
A stare so cold, but what for?
I fell in love as she crossed the floor
I need her now but she hates me more
And now it's all over, it's much too late to say 'Oh no'
Oh, she looked so lovely, standing on her own
Oh, she looked so lonely, standing all alone
Oh, she left me lonely, standing on my own
She takes her pass so quickly
