Damaskus ist eine der schönsten Städte des Orients. 10 Minuten sind eigentlich zu wenig, um einen Eindruck von dieser pulsierenden Stadt zu bekommen. Erlebt unter anderem den Märtyrerplatz, das Nationalmuseeum (ein absolutes Muss!), schlecnder über den Suq und erlebt arabisches Flair um die Omyyaden-Moschee,. Der Azim-Palast besticht wegen seiner genialen Gartenbau-Architektur. Ein Besuch des Saladin-Mausoleums, der Omyyaden-Moschee und eines römischen Bades zeigt auch die Offenheit der Araber gegen über Gästen. Un immer wieder geht es durch romantische Gassen. Das friedliche Miteinander lässst sich im Christienviertel gut dokumentieren. In der Paulus-Kapelle wurde der Saulus zum Paulus, schön ist auch die Ananias-Kapelle. DAMASKUS (Arrahmah.com) -- Mujahidin Ittihad Islami li-Ajnad Asy-Syam pada hari Rabu (9/4/2014) merilis video operasi militer mereka di jantung ibukota Damaskus. Video berdurasi 6 menit 34 detik tersebut mendokumentasikan pertempuran sengit mereka dalam merebut markas kepolisian desa Jaubar, ibukota Damaskus. Video tersebut dirilis melalui situs resmi Ajnad Asy-Syam.
Video memperlihatkan peta target serangan mujahidin. Mujahidin kemudian mempersiapkan sejumlah ranjau sebelum berangkat menuju target serangan. Ranjau-ranjau itu dilengkapi dengan sejumlah rudal dan bom barel yang ditembakkan pesawat tempur rezim namun tidak sempat meledak. Dengan ranjau-ranjau tersebut, mujahidin meledakkan beberapa gedung yang dijadikan markas pertahanan pasukan rezim Nushairiyah dan milisi Syiah di desa Jaubar, Damaskus.
Ledakan ranjau-ranjau dan bom-bom itu meluluh lantakan gedung-gedung markas pertahanan pasukan rezim di desa Jaubar. Regu-regu mujahidin kemudian menyerbu ke arah pasukan rezim dan milisi Syiah. Baku tembak sengit terjadi dengan mempergunakan senapan serbu, senjata mesin ringan, senjata mesin menengah dan senjata mesin berat.
Mujahidin kemudian membombardir pasukan rezim Nushairiyah dan milisi Syiah dengan meriam Hawan. Setelah terjadi baku tembak sengit dan penyisiran, mujahidin akhirnya berhasil merebut markas kepolisian rezim di desa Jaubar. Semua tentara Nushairiyah dan milisi Syiah yang berada dalam markas tersebut tewas dalam serangan mujahidin.
Ittihad Islami li-Ajnad Asy-Syam merupakan wadah kerjasama beberapa kelompok jihad lokal di Damaskus. Mujahidin Ittihad Islami li-Ajnad Asy-Syam terutama sekali beroperasi di propinsi Damaskus dan pinggiran Damaskus.
Bersama Jabhah Nushrah dan Jabhah Islamiyah, Ittihad Islami menggelar operasi gabungan "Perang Allah lebih tinggi dan lebih mulia" sejak Desember 2013 sampai saat ini. Operasi gabungan ketiga kelompok jihad ini memiliki peranan sangat besar dalam menghadapi pasukan rezim Nushairiyah Suriah dan milisi-milisi Syiah bayarannya. Terlebih di front distrik Qalamoun, front distrik Ghautah Timur dan front ibukota Damaskus sendiri.

Damascus
Damascus (Arabic: دمشق Dimashq IPA: [ˈdiːmaːʃq]) is the capital and the second-largest city of Syria after Aleppo. It is commonly known in Syria as ash-Sham (Arabic: الشام ash-Shām) and nicknamed as the City of Jasmine (Arabic: مدينة الياسمين Madīnat al-Yāsmīn). In addition to being one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, Damascus is a major cultural and religious center of the Levant. The city has an estimated population of 1,711,000 as of 2009.
Located in southwestern Syria, Damascus is the center of a large metropolitan area of 2.6 million people (2004). Geographically embedded on the eastern foothills of the Anti-Lebanon mountain range 80 kilometres (50 mi) inland from the eastern shore of the Mediterranean on a plateau 680 metres (2,230 ft) above sea-level, Damascus experiences a semi-arid climate because of the rain shadow effect. The Barada River flows through Damascus.
First settled in the second millennium BC, it was chosen as the capital of the Umayyad Caliphate from 661 to 750. After the victory of the Abbasid dynasty, the seat of Islamic power was moved to Baghdad. Damascus saw a political decline throughout the Abbasid era, only to regain significant importance in the Ayyubid and Mamluk periods. During Ottoman rule, the city decayed while maintaining a certain cultural prestige. Today, it is the seat of the central government and all of the government ministries.

Damascus steel
Damascus steel was a type of steel used for manufacturing blades in the Near East made with wootz steel imported from Southern India. These swords are characterized by distinctive patterns of banding and mottling reminiscent of flowing water. Such blades were reputed to be tough, resistant to shattering and capable of being honed to a sharp, resilient edge.
The steel is named after Damascus, the capital city of Syria. It may either refer to swords made or sold in Damascus directly, or it may just refer to the aspect of the typical patterns, by comparison with Damask fabrics (which are in turn named after Damascus).
The original method of producing Damascus steel is not known. Modern attempts to duplicate the metal have not been entirely successful due to differences in raw materials and manufacturing techniques. Several individuals in modern times have claimed that they have rediscovered the methods by which the original Damascus steel was produced.

DAMASKUS (Arrahmah.com) -- Mujahidin Ittihad Islami li-Ajnad Asy-Syam pada hari Rabu (9/4/2014) merilis video operasi militer mereka di jantung ibukota Damaskus. Video berdurasi 6 menit 34 detik tersebut mendokumentasikan pertempuran sengit mereka dalam merebut markas kepolisian desa Jaubar, ibukota Damaskus. Video tersebut dirilis melalui situs resmi Ajnad Asy-Syam.
Video memperlihatkan peta target serangan mujahidin. Mujahidin kemudian mempersiapkan sejumlah ranjau sebelum berangkat menuju target serangan. Ranjau-ranjau itu dilengkapi dengan sejumlah rudal dan bom barel yang ditembakkan pesawat tempur rezim namun tidak sempat meledak. Dengan ranjau-ranjau tersebut, mujahidin meledakkan beberapa gedung yang dijadikan markas pertahanan pasukan rezim Nushairiyah dan milisi Syiah di desa Jaubar, Damaskus.
Ledakan ranjau-ranjau dan bom-bom itu meluluh lantakan gedung-gedung markas pertahanan pasukan rezim di desa Jaubar. Regu-regu mujahidin kemudian menyerbu ke arah pasukan rezim dan milisi Syiah. Baku tembak sengit terjadi dengan mempergunakan senapan serbu, senjata mesin ringan, senjata mesin menengah dan senjata mesin berat.
Mujahidin kemudian membombardir pasukan rezim Nushairiyah dan milisi Syiah dengan meriam Hawan. Setelah terjadi baku tembak sengit dan penyisiran, mujahidin akhirnya berhasil merebut markas kepolisian rezim di desa Jaubar. Semua tentara Nushairiyah dan milisi Syiah yang berada dalam markas tersebut tewas dalam serangan mujahidin.
Ittihad Islami li-Ajnad Asy-Syam merupakan wadah kerjasama beberapa kelompok jihad lokal di Damaskus. Mujahidin Ittihad Islami li-Ajnad Asy-Syam terutama sekali beroperasi di propinsi Damaskus dan pinggiran Damaskus.
Bersama Jabhah Nushrah dan Jabhah Islamiyah, Ittihad Islami menggelar operasi gabungan "Perang Allah lebih tinggi dan lebih mulia" sejak Desember 2013 sampai saat ini. Operasi gabungan ketiga kelompok jihad ini memiliki peranan sangat besar dalam menghadapi pasukan rezim Nushairiyah Suriah dan milisi-milisi Syiah bayarannya. Terlebih di front distrik Qalamoun, front distrik Ghautah Timur dan front ibukota Damaskus sendiri.

Its ancient desert metropolises, old villages, impenetrable fortresses and biblical harbour towns have witnessed the rich and fascinating history of bygone times.Damascus is the capital of Syria and symbol of culture in the Near East and located a hundred kilometres from the Mediterranean coast. The Kalaa Citadel is situated on the periphery of the old town that was once surrounded by huge walls and it was from there that Saladin fended off the attacks of the Crusaders. The Khan As´Ad Pasha is often referred to as being the most beautiful caravansary in the Near East. Its inner courtyard is covered by eight mighty and partly painted cupolas each of which is supported by four pillars. Set amid the desert savannah of Syria are the proud remains of a unique and mysterious metropolis, Palmyra, a legendary ancient city that was built due to the existence of the Tadmur Oasis. The shortest and fastest route from the Mediterranean to Mesopotamia and Persia travels directly past the Tadmur Oasis thus it was only a question of time until an important trading post was founded there. Around a quarter of a million Bedouins live in Syria’s desert areas. They are nomads who speak Arabic and belong to the Muslim faith and their income is derived from sheep, goats and camels which produce both milk and meat. They travel the desert accompanied by their animals. Further north on the edge of the fertile Al Ghab Ditch is the ancient metropolis of Apameia, one of the most beautiful cities in the Near East. Apart from Bosra and Palmyra this huge city of ruins is one of the most important Hellenist regions in Syria. Syria is the Pearl Of The East. With deserts, wadis and mountains, castles and crusader fortresses, Roman ruins, palaces and mosques. A legendary country between both past and future whose cultural treasures still survive today.

The Grand Basare is a city within a city and through a large gate there is a labyrinth of corridors that were built over many centuries. On the magnificent banks of the Bosporus the Dolmabahce Palace shines out, the city’s third largest sultan’s palace. Istanbul’s regal buildings are the most beautiful legacy of Osmanic architecture. Next, a train journey from Istanbul to Damascus. The train slowly leaves Istanbul and travels into the night, our destination being the capital of Syria that is around three thousand kilometres away. Cappadocia in Anatolia is known for some of the largest and most beautiful fairy chimneys – a name given to its strange rock formations - in Cappadocia the sight of which was surely much appreciated by the first religious hermits who settled here inside the actual tuff cones. We eventually arrive in Damascus, capital of Syria and symbol of culture in the Near East, a veritable ‘paradise on earth’ situated a hundred kilometres from the Mediterranean coast. We begin our journey in Sarawak in the north west of the island, in the capital, Kuching.The Sarawak River divides the city in two and on one of the banks are the buildings of Kampung Boyan, an old water town. Situated on a hill is Fort Margarita that dates back to 1841. We visit a village of the Bidayum Tribe and to the border of the South Indonesian section of the island. The Bidayum live in traditional long houses and survive from agriculture and river fishing. The long houses measure up to a hundred and fifty metres in length and are inhabited by several families. Between Sarawak and Sabah is the tiny sultanate of Brunei Darussalm whose capital, Bandar Seri Begawan, looks like something from an exotic fantasy. In the north east of Sabah is the majestic Mount Kinabalu, at more than thirteen thousand feet above sea level the highest mountain between the Himalayas and New Guinea. Borneo is a country of natural wonder, full of adventure. A land of head hunters, mysterious cultures and exotic wildlife and an island far off the main tourist trail. A veritable hidden paradise set amid the South China Sea.
