Construction of the Crossrail project began at North Dock in Canary Wharf in May 2009. Since then the construction team has driven over 1,000 piles and pumped nearly 100 million litres of dock water - the equivalent to 40 Olympic swimming pools.
All of the water (nearly 100 million litres) was pumped out to create the worksite, revealing a spectacular hole 260 metres long and between between 45 metres and 48 metres wide.

I have been in the resort business for over 20 years, and like any other resort owner, dock maintenance is one of the biggest challenges we face. Our operation consists of 3 Drive-In Resorts and 17 Fly-In Outpost Camps, so we have a lot of docks to deal with. We have used the blue Styrofoam billets for years for flotation, and after a short period of time the foam becomes saturated with water, as well as the animals chew holes in it. It can also crack up when subjected to prolonged strong winds. When using Styrofoam or plastic billets for flotation, you have to make sure you build a structure strong enough to hold in the flotation and keep everything together in rough waters.
When using Dock Pontoons, it is the opposite idea, as your pontoons give you the strength to keep the dock rigid and because they are round, there is very little resistance to the wave action. All you have to do is build an inexpensive and light deck to complete your dock. There is no expensive 2 x 10 material required, and the pontoons keep your lumber out of the water to ensure extended life of your dock. These docks are very easy to assemble, taking around 2 hours per dock at the most. You can build any configuration you want with ease, using as many pontoons as you want. The cost of the pontoons may be a little more, but when you consider the ease of construction and the little amount of lumber needed, it is definitely the way to go for us.

Green Heron Docks Inc. builds docks with the Green Machine, a dock building machine that rides on dock as it builds the dock. The dock that it builds is the SunDock Foundation, a reinforced open frame structure. Decking can be installed or the dock can be left open as a track for the Dockrider
The Green Machine has an axle that is mounted underneath for moving down the highway. It has four long screw-jacks that lift the machine to the proper height. As the machine builds the dock, the transporter moves all the crew and materials down the dock. The pilemonkey attaches to the piling before it is raised. It engages the leads and centers the top of the piling under the hammer. The piling is driven at an angle with the 600lb drop hammer until half the piling is underground and a 3,000lb bearing capacity is met. The pile caps are placed and the pilings are notched to accept the stringers. The stringers and track boards are installed to finish that section of the dock and the machine moves out to build the next 10ft section and the process is repeated.

I have been in the resort business for over 20 years, and like any other resort owner, dock maintenance is one of the biggest challenges we face. Our operation consists of 3 Drive-In Resorts and 17 Fly-In Outpost Camps, so we have a lot of docks to deal with. We have used the blue Styrofoam billets for years for flotation, and after a short period of time the foam becomes saturated with water, as well as the animals chew holes in it. It can also crack up when subjected to prolonged strong winds. When using Styrofoam or plastic billets for flotation, you have to make sure you build a structure strong enough to hold in the flotation and keep everything together in rough waters.
When using Dock Pontoons, it is the opposite idea, as your pontoons give you the strength to keep the dock rigid and because they are round, there is very little resistance to the wave action. All you have to do is build an inexpensive and light deck to complete your dock. There is no expensive 2 x 10 material required, and the pontoons keep your lumber out of the water to ensure extended life of your dock. These docks are very easy to assemble, taking around 2 hours per dock at the most. You can build any configuration you want with ease, using as many pontoons as you want. The cost of the pontoons may be a little more, but when you consider the ease of construction and the little amount of lumber needed, it is definitely the way to go for us.

The Green Machine has an axle that is mounted underneath for moving down the highway. It has four long screw-jacks that lift the machine to the proper height. As the machine builds the dock, the transporter moves all the crew and materials down the dock. The pilemonkey attaches to the piling before it is raised. It engages the leads and centers the top of the piling under the hammer. The piling is driven at an angle with the 600lb drop hammer until half the piling is underground and a 3,000lb bearing capacity is met. The pile caps are placed and the pilings are notched to accept the stringers. The stringers and track boards are installed to finish that section of the dock and the machine moves out to build the next 10ft section and the process is repeated.

As the game’s universe draws inspiration from such novels as Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, at the bottom of the ocean you can find bizarre sea monsters, as well as remnants of futuristic buildings and ships. The player assumes the role of a captain of an advanced submarine, and explores the depths of the ocean. The game’s characteristic feature is the ability to design vessels and determine such things as performance, layout, on-board mechanisms, and materials used for the construction. You begin with rather primitive ships, but as you progress you will be able to construct more advanced vessels, and explore previously unavailable parts of the ocean. While playing, you can freely walk around your ship, and even go outside to explore the marine world on your own.
