Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental disorder where people feel the need to check things repeatedly, perform certain routines repeatedly, or have certain thoughts repeatedly. People are unable to control either the thoughts or the activities. Common activities include hand washing, counting of things, and checking to see if a door is locked. Some may have difficulty throwing things out. These activities occur to such a degree that the person's daily life is negatively affected. Often they take up more than an hour a day. Most adults realize that the behaviors do not make sense. The condition is associated with tics, anxiety disorder, and an increased risk of suicide.
The cause is unknown. There appears to be some genetic components with both identical twins more often affected than both non-identical twins. Risk factors include a history of child abuse or other stress inducing event. Some cases have been documented to occur following infections. The diagnosis is based on the symptoms and requires ruling out other drug related or medical causes. Rating scales such as the Yale–Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale can be used to assess the severity. Other disorders with similar symptoms include anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, eating disorders, tic disorders, and obsessive–compulsive personality disorder.
Jeffrey M. Schwartz, M.D. is an American psychiatrist and researcher in the field of neuroplasticity and its application to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). He is a proponent of mind/body dualism and appeared in the 2008 Film Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, in which he told interviewer Ben Stein that science should not be separated from religion.
Brain lock is a term coined by Schwartz to describe obsessive-compulsive behavior and to describe a treatment plan he published in his 1997 book Brain Lock: Free Yourself from Obsessive-Compulsive Behavior. In the book Schwartz claims that obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD) are a result of a bio-chemical imbalance where brain functions will get "locked" in an obsessive-compulsive pattern and that OCD can be self-treated by following four steps, which are listed as follows:
The Joker is Wild was the second album released by Alex Harvey after the demise of The Soul Band. The album was released in 1972. Some time after 1972 the album The Joker Is Wild was reissued and repackaged, the album song listings stayed the same, but the album was credited as being made by "The Sensational Alex Harvey Band" even though this band did not exist at the time, and the title was changed to This Is.
The album was recorded at Regent Sound Studio, London in early 1972. These songs are unfinished demos only, recorded for a Spanish singer named Tony Caldeira (who wrote "The Joker Is Wild" and "Silhouette and Shadow"). Alex was teaching Tony vocal delivery and phrasing. Alex received a cheque for the session which subsequently bounced. The producer, Paul Murphy, sold the tapes to Metronome Records in Germany and they issued the LP as The Joker Is Wild in 1972. This Is SAHB is a low budget reissue of "Joker" intended to cash in on SAHB's success (even though Zal, Chris, Ted and Hugh weren't involved with the recordings). The photo of SAHB on the sleeve features keyboard player John Martin on the far left.
YESTERDAY'S VIDEO: https://youtu.be/YELbjcftIEU Rafael is 3 years old and he's been diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and High Functioning Autism. A lot of kids with autism have OCD. We are working with him in these cases several times a day when he struggles with his OCD. This was just ONE example of what he goes through multiple times a day. It really opens my eyes to things when I see him struggling with something so little. OCD is very treatable when you treat it and work on it daily. The struggle is real though, and something very little can set him off and send him in a tantrum or meltdown for hours. Our everyday life in Israel! Hadar, Andrea, baby Rafael & Kitty. A song about making things right. iTUNES: http://bit.ly/MyOCDsong NOTE: We understand that OCD is a serious mental disorder that significantly affects the lives of millions of people (including Rhett's wife). This song is not intended to make fun of people with OCD, but rather to demonstrate and poke fun at the tendency of so many people to point out things that are off-center, off-balance, etc. and say "It's driving my OCD crazy!" We have an extensive discussion about this very thing, as well as what OCD really is, on this episode of Good Mythical Morning: http://youtu.be/-1QeJAmpvGk Thanks - R&L; Click CC for lyrics. made by me, with help from Tomek Chmielewski. For all my fellow weirdos. Some of this is based on my private experience. If you have any of these "symptoms" (though this is not the whole spectrum), you might want to take an OCD test online. If it turns out positive and you feel your daily life is negatively affected, try visiting a psychologist. Hopefully this video encourages you to read a bit about the disorder. Don't be ashamed - more people suffer from OCD than you might think. Explanation of how an OCD afflicted brain causes irrational and unhealthy behaviors & A method for treating it. ▲Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/WILearned ▲Twitter: https://twitter.com/jeverettlearned The content in this video primarily comes from Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz's book "Brain Lock." It was very refreshing to come across a clear explanation of how a mental illness works in terms of physiology rather than psychology. Then I thought it quite remarkable that, as illustrated in the book, by simply changing their mindset and behavior, people can physically change their brain for the better. (As is evidenced by brain scans taken after Dr. Schwartz's treatment) OCD is a complex disease and this video doesn't intend to be an exhaustive explanation of it. If you do have OCD it would defini...
This was an art installation project used for a Visual Communications project at Humber Lakeshore in the Film and Media Production Degree Program. OCD was researched and people who live with OCD were interviewed to get the most accurate depiction. Enjoy.
