Driving over 2,000 miles from Wembley, Alberta (in Western Canada) just to compete in Drag Week 2017 (where you have to drive another 1,000 miles in your racecar) is a sign of more than just sheer dedication! Several years ago when our new friend Patrick Myker came across a magazine with articles over previous Drag Weeks, he was inspired by one man, Larry Larson! In the years since, Patrick has been taking his vision of a Drag Week build through several reincarnations in order to get to the final product he came to compete this year with! This 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle is a stunning display of hard work as it commands your attention in so many ways! This was Patrick’s first time ever even attending Drag Week and though it was much more rocky that expected, he is still excited to come back and compete again!

A "major incident" has been declared for all areas affected by flooding in Somerset following warnings of further heavy rain.
Many villagers are already cut off by floods and Somerset County Council said its priority was to keep people safe.
Sedgemoor District Council has made the same announcement so it can also mobilise extra support.
The area's MP said there was a risk of catastrophic flooding unless action was taken and he asked for government help.
A major incident is declared where there is a situation which could not be dealt with easily by the local council and could threaten lives, disrupt the community or damage property.
It means the local authority can organise emergency evacuations, set up rest centres and mobilise voluntary organisations.
He said there were fears that rain at the weekend could cause problems for Langport and Westonzoyland.
The Met Office has issued an amber warning for rain on Sunday saying people living on the Somerset Levels should "be prepared for further flooding".
Somerset County Council said its decision to declare a major incident followed the forecasts of further heavy rain, coupled with high spring tides next week.
Ian Liddell-Grainger, the Conservative MP for Bridgwater, said the county faced a "very difficult weekend".
He has written to Prime Minster David Cameron and Communities Secretary Eric Pickles asking for help.
"There is a very real risk of catastrophic flooding on a scale not seen for more than a century unless we act swiftly and decisively," he said.
"I have told the prime minister we need extra pumping capacity brought here as soon as possible and we may also need help from the military if the situation progresses in the way it appears to be going."
'Urgent situation'
Deputy chief executive of Somerset County Council Pat Flaherty said: "Our priority has to be to keep people safe.
"We are doing everything we can to do this and we believe that declaring a major incident shows just how urgent the situation is for many of our residents and communities."
The council said it will continue its current help and support for people affected by flooding, including providing a boat service for the cut-off community of Muchelney and Thorney.
It will also be providing a pontoon bridge at Langport and supporting farmers providing a vital tractor service to communities.
Kerry Rickards, of Sedgemoor District Council, said: "Several Sedgemoor communities have been severely affected by the floodwaters for some weeks now.
"With significant rainfall expected over the coming days we feel this situation needs to be escalated as a major incident."
Sedgemoor District Council said it had dealt with two major incidents before, one in 2011 when a river wall partially collapsed in Bridgwater, leading to the evacuation of nearby homes and 19 people spending the night in emergency accommodation.
It said the second incident was in 2012 when homes were evacuated in Burnham-on-Sea after police found highly-explosive chemicals in a man's shed.
For this incident, it has provided portable toilets where septic tanks have overflowed and delivered extra sandbags on top of the 3,000 already given out.
The village of Muchelney in south Somerset has been cut off for almost a month.
A pontoon has been built there to help villagers board a boat which has been used for transport along flooded roads.

Inspired by a recent trip to the museum, I fell in love with an impressionist painting of an autumn garden in full bloom. Everything in the garden felt alive and full of Technicolor and flavor, even though I couldn't taste it! It immediately made me think of fabric. Grounded with a dark, earthy brown and a soft grey, the Somerset collection just sings of fruit and flowers and an abundance of falling leaves. It is the garden of my dreams. Persimmon, citron, artichoke, poppy and chestnut are joined by rain washed and fog tones to create a well-rounded group perfect for any litany of quilts, accessories and home projects.
I hope you enjoy these fabrics as much as I did creating them. -Joanna

As at 1 June 2017. Pat Dennis is the talented local artist who created the excellent long mural in the Mineral Yard at Watchet, known as the Sea Spray Gallery. When I first saw the Mural in Anchor Street, in the disused old Betting Shop, it seemed very familiar! Some friends who are due to visit the area on holiday will be interested to see some new facilities we have now . So here we go with some more adventures of Val and I including some local news on video!

Somerset
Somerset (
i/ˈsʌmərsɛt/ or /ˈsʌmərsᵻt/) is a county in South West England which borders Gloucestershire and Bristol to the north, Wiltshire to the east, Dorset to the south-east and Devon to the south-west. It is bounded to the north and west by the Severn Estuary and the Bristol Channel, its coastline facing southeastern Wales. Its traditional border with Gloucestershire is the River Avon. Somerset's county town is Taunton.
Somerset is a rural county of rolling hills such as the Blackdown Hills, Mendip Hills, Quantock Hills and Exmoor National Park, and large flat expanses of land including the Somerset Levels. There is evidence of human occupation from Paleolithic times, and of subsequent settlement in the Roman and Anglo-Saxon periods. The county played a significant part in the consolidation of power and rise of King Alfred the Great, and later in the English Civil War and the Monmouth Rebellion. The city of Bath is famous for its substantial Georgian architecture and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Somerset Place
Somerset Place is a former plantation near Creswell in Washington County, North Carolina, along the northern shore of Lake Phelps, and now a State Historic Site. Somerset Place operated as a plantation from 1785 until 1865. Before the end of the American Civil War, Somerset Place had become one of the Upper South's largest plantations.
In 1969, Somerset Place was designated as a State Historic Site. In 1986, descendants of African American slaves from Somerset Place planned a gathering known as Somerset Homecoming. The event inspired a book titled "Somerset Homecoming" written by the property's former manager Dorothy Spruill Redford, who retired in 2008.
Visitors can tour the 1830s period plantation house, the dairy, kitchen/laundry, kitchen rations building, smokehouse and salting house. The site features several reconstructed buildings for the plantation's slaves, including two homes and the plantation hospital; the grounds include stocks that were used to punish slaves.
The visitor center's exhibits display the history of the site and antebellum North Carolina. There is also a gift shop.

Pat DiNizio
Pat DiNizio (born October 12, 1955), of Scotch Plains, New Jersey, is the lead singer, songwriter, and member of the band The Smithereens, which he formed in 1980 with Jim Babjak, Dennis Diken and Mike Mesaros, from Carteret, New Jersey.
In addition to the Smithereens' body of work, DiNizio has also released a number of solo albums, Sounds and Songs (1997), This is Pat DiNizio, a collection of cover songs arranged for piano and vocals (2006), Revolutions (2 CDs plus 1 DVD, limited edition of 300 copies, 2006), Pat DiNizio (2007), and Pat DiNizio/Buddy Holly (2008). An expanded 2-CD version of This is Pat DiNizio was issued in 2011.
In 2000, DiNizio made an unsuccessful run for the New Jersey seat of the United States Senate, running on the Reform Party ticket. He finished 4th with 19,312 votes (0.64%). The campaign was chronicled in the 2001 documentary film Mr. Smithereen Goes to Washington.
The same year, he launched the "Living Room Tour," a five-month jaunt where he performed solo, by request only, in the homes of fans. The tour was a success, and he still occasionally books similar concerts for a nominal fee.

Somerset recalls. receiving a guitar for his 11th birthday pathed the way for somerset to pursue his musical aspirations and after dropping out of university music has become his life. Somerset has built a fanbase through his weekly monday and thursday night gigs at the zi bar and has gained international recognition with his raw approach to song writing. In March 2012 he was invited to perform in nashville ,home of country music, after his well recieved performance at tamworth. Somerset continues to write and perform and his goals include touring and playing as much as possible to promote his music. Edith Day (April 10, 1896 - May 1, 1971) was an American actress best known for her roles in musicals. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Day made her Broadway debut in Pom-pom in 1916. Day then appeared in three silent films, The Grain of Dust (1918), A Romance of the Air (1918), and Children Not Wanted (1920). In 1919, she became a major star playing the title role in Irene. Five months into the run, she departed the cast to create the role in the London production. Embraced by the London critics, she decided to remain there after the show closed and went on to become the first lady of West End musicals, with triumphs in Rose-Marie, The Desert Song and Show Boat. Day retired from acting in the 1930s. In 1960 she briefly returned to the stage in Noël Coward's Waiting in the Wings, later appearing in the London production of Coward's musical Sail Away at the Savoy Theatre in 1962. Day was married three times, to theatre producer Carle Carleton, actor Pat Somerset and Henry Horne. Her only son died in World War II. She died in London at the age of 75. A cocktail is named for her, made with dry gin, grapefruit juice, sugar, and an egg white.

Driving over 2,000 miles from Wembley, Alberta (in Western Canada) just to compete in Drag Week 2017 (where you have to drive another 1,000 miles in your racecar) is a sign of more than just sheer dedication! Several years ago when our new friend Patrick Myker came across a magazine with articles over previous Drag Weeks, he was inspired by one man, Larry Larson! In the years since, Patrick has been taking his vision of a Drag Week build through several reincarnations in order to get to the final product he came to compete this year with! Somerset floods: 'Major incident' declared
A "major incident" has been declared for all areas affected by flooding in Somerset following warnings of further heavy rain. Many villagers are already cut off by floods and Somerset County Council said its priority was to keep people safe. Sedgemoor District Council has made the same announcement so it can also mobilise extra support. The area's MP said there was a risk of catastrophic flooding unless action was taken and he asked for government help. A major incident is declared where there is a situation which could not be dealt with easily by the local council and could threaten lives, disrupt the community or damage property. It means the local authority can organise emergency evacuations, set up rest centres and mobilise voluntary organisations. He said there were fears that r...

Somerset Fabrics by Fig Tree and Co.
Inspired by a recent trip to the museum, I fell in love with an impressionist painting of an autumn garden in full bloom. Everything in the garden felt alive and full of Technicolor and flavor, even though I couldn't taste it! It immediately made me think of fabric. Grounded with a dark, earthy brown and a soft grey, the Somerset collection just sings of fruit and flowers and an abundance of falling leaves. It is the garden of my dreams. Persimmon, citron, artichoke, poppy and chestnut are joined by rain washed and fog tones to create a well-rounded group perfect for any litany of quilts, accessories and home projects. I hope you enjoy these fabrics as much as I did creating them. -Joanna

As at 1 June 2017. Pat Dennis is the talented local artist who created the excellent long mural in the Mineral Yard at Watchet, known as the Sea Spray Gallery. When I first saw the Mural in Anchor Street, in the disused old Betting Shop, it seemed very familiar! Some friends who are due to visit the area on holiday will be interested to see some new facilities we have now . A "major incident" has been declared for all areas affected by flooding in Somerset following warnings of further heavy rain.
Many villagers are already cut off by floods and Somerset County Council said its priority was to keep people safe.
Sedgemoor District Council has made the same announcement so it can also mobilise extra support.
The area's MP said there was a risk of catastrophic flooding unless action was taken and he asked for government help.
A major incident is declared where there is a situation which could not be dealt with easily by the local council and could threaten lives, disrupt the community or damage property.
It means the local authority can organise emergency evacuations, set up rest centres and mobilise voluntary organisations.
He said there were fears that rain at the weekend could cause problems for Langport and Westonzoyland.
The Met Office has issued an amber warning for rain on Sunday saying people living on the Somerset Levels should "be prepared for further flooding".
Somerset County Council said its decision to declare a major incident followed the forecasts of further heavy rain, coupled with high spring tides next week.
Ian Liddell-Grainger, the Conservative MP for Bridgwater, said the county faced a "very difficult weekend".
He has written to Prime Minster David Cameron and Communities Secretary Eric Pickles asking for help.
"There is a very real risk of catastrophic flooding on a scale not seen for more than a century unless we act swiftly and decisively," he said.
"I have told the prime minister we need extra pumping capacity brought here as soon as possible and we may also need help from the military if the situation progresses in the way it appears to be going."
'Urgent situation'
Deputy chief executive of Somerset County Council Pat Flaherty said: "Our priority has to be to keep people safe.
"We are doing everything we can to do this and we believe that declaring a major incident shows just how urgent the situation is for many of our residents and communities."
The council said it will continue its current help and support for people affected by flooding, including providing a boat service for the cut-off community of Muchelney and Thorney.
It will also be providing a pontoon bridge at Langport and supporting farmers providing a vital tractor service to communities.
Kerry Rickards, of Sedgemoor District Council, said: "Several Sedgemoor communities have been severely affected by the floodwaters for some weeks now.
"With significant rainfall expected over the coming days we feel this situation needs to be escalated as a major incident."
Sedgemoor District Council said it had dealt with two major incidents before, one in 2011 when a river wall partially collapsed in Bridgwater, leading to the evacuation of nearby homes and 19 people spending the night in emergency accommodation.
It said the second incident was in 2012 when homes were evacuated in Burnham-on-Sea after police found highly-explosive chemicals in a man's shed.
For this incident, it has provided portable toilets where septic tanks have overflowed and delivered extra sandbags on top of the 3,000 already given out.
The village of Muchelney in south Somerset has been cut off for almost a month.
A pontoon has been built there to help villagers board a boat which has been used for transport along flooded roads.

Inspired by a recent trip to the museum, I fell in love with an impressionist painting of an autumn garden in full bloom. Everything in the garden felt alive and full of Technicolor and flavor, even though I couldn't taste it! It immediately made me think of fabric. Grounded with a dark, earthy brown and a soft grey, the Somerset collection just sings of fruit and flowers and an abundance of falling leaves. It is the garden of my dreams. Persimmon, citron, artichoke, poppy and chestnut are joined by rain washed and fog tones to create a well-rounded group perfect for any litany of quilts, accessories and home projects.
I hope you enjoy these fabrics as much as I did creating them. -Joanna

As at 1 June 2017. Pat Dennis is the talented local artist who created the excellent long mural in the Mineral Yard at Watchet, known as the Sea Spray Gallery. When I first saw the Mural in Anchor Street, in the disused old Betting Shop, it seemed very familiar! Some friends who are due to visit the area on holiday will be interested to see some new facilities we have now . Somerset's love for music began at a young age when he remembers going
through his fathers record collection " I remember listening to merle
haggard , Waylon Jennings and johnny cash and thinking thats what i
want to do!" Somerset recalls. receiving a guitar for his 11th
birthday pathed the way for somerset to pursue his musical aspirations
and after dropping out of university music has become his life.
Somerset has built a fanbase through his weekly monday and thursday
night gigs at the zi bar and has gained international recognition
with his raw approach to song writing. In March 2012 he was invited
to perform in nashville ,home of country music, after his well
recieved performance at tamworth. Somerset continues to write and
perform and his goals include touring and playing as much as possible

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Day made her Broadway debut in Pom-pom in 1916. Day then appeared in three silent films, The Grain of Dust (1918), A Romance of the Air (1918), and Children Not Wanted (1920).
In 1919, she became a major star playing the title role in Irene. Five months into the run, she departed the cast to create the role in the London production. Embraced by the London critics, she decided to remain there after the show closed and went on to become the first lady of West End musicals, with triumphs in Rose-Marie, The Desert Song and Show Boat.
Day retired from acting in the 1930s. In 1960 she briefly returned to the stage in Noël Coward's Waiting in the Wings, later appearing in the London production of Coward's musical Sail Away at the Savoy Theatre in 1962.
Day was married three times, to theatre producer Carle Carleton, actor Pat Somerset and Henry Horne. Her only son died in World War II. She died in London at the age of 75.
A cocktail is named for her, made with dry gin, grapefruit juice, sugar, and an egg white.

Georgian City Of Bath, Somerset
Bath is a city in Somerset, South West England, 97 miles (156 km) west of London and 13 miles (21 km) south-east of Bristol. In 2011, its population was 88,859.[2] It became part of Avon in 1974; since Avon's abolition in 1996, it has been the principal centre of Bath and North East Somerset. The city became a spa with the Latin name Aquae Sulis ("the waters of Sulis") c. AD 60 when the Romans built baths and a temple in the valley of the River Avon, although oral tradition suggests that the hot springs were known before then. It became popular as a spa town during the Georgian era, leaving a heritage of Georgian architecture crafted from Bath Stone. Bath became a World Heritage Site in 1987. In today's video I start the new year off with a brief tour of the city of my birth. London is an overwhelmingly big city to the uninitiated and with an almost intimidating amount of things to see and visit, where do you start?
As I was traveling over the festive season to see family in the UK, I thought I might as well drop by the capital to see friends and share some of my favorite attractions. I have been enjoying many of these since childhood, but as London inevitably evolves with time (the measurement of which was pioneered at Greenwich!) there is a whole new addition of new things to experience and enjoy. No matter if you are on a budget or wish to splash out on some classy old world luxury, London has it all.
I start my day with something of a family tradition with a hearty brunch at the iconic Savoy Hotel. To help digest the meal, I take a walk to Somerset House, followed by a stop at the Southbank, which is one of Europe's largest centers for the arts. On the way I share some favorite horological treats and end up at the legendary Fortnum & Mason to stock up on essentials. I then continue shopping with a look at the luxury goods on offer at the world renowned Jermyn Street, which is known for its exclusive gentlemen's clothing. I then take a break to reflect inside one of the city’s many hidden gems of architecture. St. James Church on Piccadilly was designed by the acclaimed Christopher Wren, and at the time of this trip, the church had a very moving modern art installation on display.
After a quick stop at the always trendy Covent Garden, we pop back over the river to the amazing Tate Modern to take in a few art exhibits. We then decide to end the day with quite literally a high with dinner overlooking the city at the fashionable and luxurious Aqua Shard in the majestic Shard building. In conclusion, I also run through a list of essential attractions, options for perfect days out and trusted London favorites I highly recommend.

Brink's-Mat Robbery [FULL FILM]
The Brink's-Mat robbery at the Heathrow International Trading Estate on 26 November 1983 saw a record £26 million (today approximately £500 million) worth of gold bullion, diamonds and cash stolen from a warehouse. The bullion was the property of Johnson Matthey Bankers Ltd, which collapsed the following year after making large loans to fraudsters and insolvent firms. Many of the robbery gang were convicted, but the majority of the gold has never been recovered. Insurers Lloyd’s of London paid out for the losses. Driving over 2,000 miles from Wembley, Alberta (in Western Canada) just to compete in Drag Week 2017 (where you have to drive another 1,000 miles in your racecar) is a sign of more than just sheer dedication! Several years ago when our new friend Patrick Myker came across a magazine with articles over previous Drag Weeks, he was inspired by one man, Larry Larson! In the years since, Patrick has been taking his vision of a Drag Week build through several reincarnations in order to get to the final product he came to compete this year with! This 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle is a stunning display of hard work as it commands your attention in so many ways! This was Patrick’s first time ever even attending Drag Week and though it was much more rocky that expected, he is still excited to come back and compete again!

The Brink's-Mat robbery at the Heathrow International Trading Estate on 26 November 1983 saw a record £26 million (today approximately £500 million) worth of gold bullion, diamonds and cash stolen from a warehouse. The bullion was the property of Johnson Matthey Bankers Ltd, which collapsed the following year after making large loans to fraudsters and insolvent firms. Many of the robbery gang were convicted, but the majority of the gold has never been recovered.
Insurers Lloyd’s of London paid out for the losses. Several murders have been linked to the case, plus links established to the Hatton Garden safe deposit burglary over 30 years later in April 2015.
Robbery
The Brink's-Mat robbery occurred early on 26 November 1983 when six robbers broke into the Brink's-Mat warehouse, Unit 7 of the Heathrow International Trading Estate near Heathrow Airport in west London. At the time, it was described as "the crime of the century".
The gang gained entry to the warehouse from security guard Anthony Black. Once inside, they poured petrol over staff and threatened them with a lit match if they did not reveal the combination numbers of the vault. The robbers thought they were going to steal £3.2 million in cash, but they found three tonnes of gold bullion and stole £26 million (approximately £500 million in 2017 pounds) worth of gold, diamonds and cash.
Arrests
Two days after the robbery, a couple saw a white-hot crucible operating in a garden hut at a neighbour's property near Bath, Somerset. Suspecting it may be linked to the bullion robbery, they immediately informed the police. The police arrived and were shown the hut, but they said it was just beyond their jurisdiction and said they would pass the information on to the police responsible for that area. The couple were never asked to give a statement to police or give evidence in court. No explanation has been given for the police failure to follow up immediately on the tip-off. Only 14 months later were the premises raided, the smelter found, and occupier John Palmer, a local jeweller and bullion dealer, arrested. In court, Palmer said he was unaware the gold was linked to the robbery and he was cleared of all charges. For this incident, Palmer acquired the soubriquet of "Goldfinger".
One of the robbers, Brian Robinson, was caught after security guard insider Black, his brother-in-law, passed his name to investigating officers. He was arrested in December 1983.
Scotland Yard quickly discovered the family connection and Black confessed to aiding and abetting the raiders, providing them with a key to the main door, and giving them details of security measures.
Micky McAvoy had entrusted part of his share to associates Brian Perry and George Francis. Perry recruited Kenneth Noye, who was an expert in his field, to dispose of the gold. Noye melted down the bullion and recast it for sale, mixing in copper coins to disguise the source. However, the sudden movement of large amounts of money through a Bristol bank came to the notice of the Bank of England, which informed the police.
Noye was placed under police surveillance. In January 1985 he killed a police officer, DC John Fordham, whom he had discovered in his garden. At the resulting trial the following December, the jury found him not guilty on the grounds of self-defence.
Convictions
Tried at the Old Bailey in December 1984, McAvoy was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for armed robbery. Black was sentenced to six years.
In 1986, Noye was found guilty of conspiracy to handle the Brink's-Mat gold, fined £500,000, plus £200,000 costs, and sentenced to 14 years in prison. He served seven years before being released in 1994. George Francis was later murdered and McAvoy was thought to be a suspect.
Attempts by McAvoy to strike a deal to give back his share of the money in exchange for a reduced sentence failed, as by then the money had vanished. In January 1995, the High Court ordered McAvoy to make a payment of £27,488,299, making him responsible for the entire sum stolen. He was released from prison in 2000.
In 1996 Noye murdered motorist Stephen Cameron during a road rage incident. Arrested in Spain and extradited, he was convicted of Cameron's murder in 2000, and received a life sentence.
Recovery
Gold
Much of the three tonnes of stolen gold has never been recovered and the other four robbers were never convicted. In 1996 about half of the gold, the portion which had been smelted, was thought to have found its way back into the legitimate gold market, including the reserves of the true owners, Johnson Matthey. According to the BBC, some have claimed that anyone wearing gold jewellery bought in the UK after 1983 is probably wearing Brink's-Mat.

When I first saw the Mural in Anchor Street, in the disused old Betting Shop, it seemed very familiar! Some friends who are due to visit the area on holiday will be interested to see some new facilities we have now . The haunting images of abandoned and devastated homes were worth any thousand of the words from assembled experts on the BBC Inside Out West flooding debate special last night, says Western Daily Press' Head of Content Richard Bache.
Nine very long and wet weeks have passed since large parts of the Somerset Levels began to flood.
Last night in Bridgwater the BBC assembled an audience of affected residents, various experts, politicians and emergency service personnel to debate the floods and the future of the Somerset Levels.
To readers of the Western Daily Press little of what was said would have come as a huge surprise.
The library footage from 2012 of a bumbling Environment Agency chairman Lord Smith avoiding giving a straight answer to the BBC's Clinton Rogers on this very subject in many ways defines the Environment Agency's performance in the run-up to this disaster.
It might cry poverty, but the false economy of not dredging has been exposed as penny-wise, pound-foolish thinking of the highest order.
However substantial and significant the efforts of its frontline staff have been in the weeks since the flooding began, cannot disguise the part its management played in the years before this crisis.
As farmer James Winslade noted on the programme, this flooding began very early this winter after a relatively short period of rain.
It can be argued that the subsequent record deluges of rain that the Environment Agency and others now forcefully argue are to blame for this flooding are something of a red herring. The sopping wet January and February have certainly exacerbated the problem, but the accumulated wisdom of local people suggests that if the rivers had been maintained properly then the flooding wouldn't have started until much later and would not have devastated such a wide area.
The only MP to appear on the programme -- Liberal Democrat for Wells, Tessa Munt -- came across well.
It would have perhaps made better television if outspoken Bridgwater and West Somerset MP Ian Liddell-Grainger MP had appeared, but he, along with other Somerset MPs such as David Heath and Jeremy Browne did not accept the BBC's invite.
The incalculable damage to Somerset's economy and business community was scarcely touched on during the debate, other than the narrow element of farmers' losses.
Figures from local government to appear included acting chief executive of Somerset County Council Patrick Flaherty and chief executive of Sedgemoor District Council Kerry Rickards.
County Councillor Justine Baker spoke with her Flooding on the Levels Action Group hat -- or to be more accurate hoodie -- on. It was though somewhat remiss of her not to declare the interest that she is standing in the Bridgwater and West Somerset seat for the Liberal Democrats at the next general election.
Chief Superintendent Caroline Peters of Avon and Somerset Police spoke on behalf of the emergency services. Her message was somewhat drowned in a torrent of police jargon relating to gold and silver commands. Not a medal-winning performance.

Nine very long and wet weeks have passed since large parts of the Somerset Levels began to flood.
Last night in Bridgwater the BBC assembled an audience of affected residents, various experts, politicians and emergency service personnel to debate the floods and the future of the Somerset Levels.
To readers of the Western Daily Press little of what was said would have come as a huge surprise.
The library footage from 2012 of a bumbling Environment Agency chairman Lord Smith avoiding giving a straight answer to the BBC's Clinton Rogers on this very subject in many ways defines the Environment Agency's performance in the run-up to this disaster.
It might cry poverty, but the false economy of not dredging has been exposed as penny-wise, pound-foolish thinking of the highest order.
However substantial and significant the efforts of its frontline staff have been in the weeks since the flooding began, cannot disguise the part its management played in the years before this crisis.
As farmer James Winslade noted on the programme, this flooding began very early this winter after a relatively short period of rain.
It can be argued that the subsequent record deluges of rain that the Environment Agency and others now forcefully argue are to blame for this flooding are something of a red herring. The sopping wet January and February have certainly exacerbated the problem, but the accumulated wisdom of local people suggests that if the rivers had been maintained properly then the flooding wouldn't have started until much later and would not have devastated such a wide area.
The only MP to appear on the programme -- Liberal Democrat for Wells, Tessa Munt -- came across well.
It would have perhaps made better television if outspoken Bridgwater and West Somerset MP Ian Liddell-Grainger MP had appeared, but he, along with other Somerset MPs such as David Heath and Jeremy Browne did not accept the BBC's invite.
The incalculable damage to Somerset's economy and business community was scarcely touched on during the debate, other than the narrow element of farmers' losses.
Figures from local government to appear included acting chief executive of Somerset County Council Patrick Flaherty and chief executive of Sedgemoor District Council Kerry Rickards.
County Councillor Justine Baker spoke with her Flooding on the Levels Action Group hat -- or to be more accurate hoodie -- on. It was though somewhat remiss of her not to declare the interest that she is standing in the Bridgwater and West Somerset seat for the Liberal Democrats at the next general election.
Chief Superintendent Caroline Peters of Avon and Somerset Police spoke on behalf of the emergency services. Her message was somewhat drowned in a torrent of police jargon relating to gold and silver commands. Not a medal-winning performance.
