Basically, broadband is, kind of, like a ‘catch-all’ term that handled every kind of internet connection that is not dial-up and that is steady and constant. It was basically a way for internet providers to differentiate between dial-up, back when dial-up was popular, and the newer DSL, cable, FiOS; all kinds of, you know, newer networks that are just always on, always connected and much faster than dial-up. That's all it means. Basically, a way to describe how broad the band is, that the data is being transferred on to your house or office. What made broadband so amazing was, for the first time, you could use your computer and if somebody picks up the phone, it doesn't ruin your connection. Also, you can leave your computer on all night to download files, and the files get to your computer much faster. It also enables usages, like online gaming, or video streaming, or video conferencing, which you really couldn't do before. So, all in all, broadband was a great advancement, and it really made the internet what it is today.

For starters, Joanne heads to a Main Distribution Frame room (MDF room) and chats with Leslie find out more about how he and his team provide connection to all home users.

Mr. Goh shares with us on how these fibre cables are installed with a "rotan" (Malay word for "rattan") and tells us a few of his experiences on what goes on below the surface. From encounters with snakes to ghost stories, a job like this is definitely more than thrilling than it looks!

Hi, this 'How To' video shows a real example of an increase in internet ADSL broadband speed of over 60%. It is ideal if you want to fit an ADSL or VDSL faceplate but your router is located nowhere near your master socket. It shows you how to use your existing telephone extensions to provide a dedicated ADSL or VDSL extension which can help increase your broadband speed because the signal can degrade as it travels through voice telephone extension wiring.
It is always best to install your router by your master socket but if this is not possible then follow the steps in this video.
By using the setup in this video you stop the broadband signal travelling down the voice extensions and allow it to travel down a twisted pair of wires to the location of your router.
In the UK master sockets are often located in the hallway because historically people had a single telephone in the hallway but this is not the ideal place for a router as most people want the router hidden away or next to the computer.
In the video the router stats which shows what the line is capable of achieving went up over 60% but the actual results on speedtest.net stayed the same but this is due to DLM (Dynamic Line Management) which on Plusnet broadband can take up to 3 days to change so within 3 days of this video the actual speedtest.net speed would increase in line or just below the actual router stats. In hindsight I should have shown the before and after router stats page but I didn't BUT I did note down the results as a comparison. Thanks for watching.

Swedish internet service provider Com Hem wanted to help those who are frustrated with their connection.
So they founded "Bredbandsskolan", an online tool kit to educate their clients about internet and broadband.

APPROACH / We were invited to score the progression of the internet from the Stone Age to the modern day. Our composition takes influence from classic film scores and was written in a reactive and sympathetic manner, responding to the various settings and events played out. Whilst the score is predominantly orchestral we remained conscious of the overarching theme of moving through the ages and adapted the style throughout to reflect that.

Hi, this 'How To' video shows a real example of an increase in internet ADSL broadband speed of over 60%. It is ideal if you want to fit an ADSL or VDSL faceplate but your router is located nowhere near your master socket. It shows you how to use your existing telephone extensions to provide a dedicated ADSL or VDSL extension which can help increase your broadband speed because the signal can degrade as it travels through voice telephone extension wiring.
It is always best to install your router by your master socket but if this is not possible then follow the steps in this video.
By using the setup in this video you stop the broadband signal travelling down the voice extensions and allow it to travel down a twisted pair of wires to the location of your router.
In the UK master sockets are often located in the hallway because historically people had a single telephone in the hallway but this is not the ideal place for a router as most people want the router hidden away or next to the computer.
In the video the router stats which shows what the line is capable of achieving went up over 60% but the actual results on speedtest.net stayed the same but this is due to DLM (Dynamic Line Management) which on Plusnet broadband can take up to 3 days to change so within 3 days of this video the actual speedtest.net speed would increase in line or just below the actual router stats. In hindsight I should have shown the before and after router stats page but I didn't BUT I did note down the results as a comparison. Thanks for watching.

Swedish internet service provider Com Hem wanted to help those who are frustrated with their connection.
So they founded "Bredbandsskolan", an online tool kit to educate their clients about internet and broadband.

In a partnership between Sky and Universal, this spot depicts the evolution of the internet from dial up to fibre.

We were invited to score the progression of the internet from the Stone Age to the modern day. APPROACH / We were invited to score the progression of the internet from the Stone Age to the modern day. Our composition takes influence from classic film scores and was written in a reactive and sympathetic manner, responding to the various settings and events played out. Whilst the score is predominantly orchestral we remained conscious of the overarching theme of moving through the ages and adapted the style throughout to reflect that.

For starters, Joanne heads to a Main Distribution Frame room (MDF room) and chats with Leslie find out more about how he and his team provide connection to all home users.
Next, Joanne is led to a manhole and manages to sneak a peek at all the hard work that goes in to wiring Singapore up. Mr. Goh shares with us on how these fibre cables are installed with a "rotan" (Malay word for "rattan") and tells us a few of his experiences on what goes on below the surface. From encounters with snakes to ghost stories, a job like this is definitely more than thrilling than it looks!
Caleb from SingTel's product development department enlightens us on the benefits of using fibre broadband such as the luxury of surfing the Internet at light speed and the convenience of bringing various telecommunication services to the consumer's home.

Hi, this 'How To' video shows a real example of an increase in internet ADSL broadband speed of over 60%. It is ideal if you want to fit an ADSL or VDSL faceplate but your router is located nowhere near your master socket. It shows you how to use your existing telephone extensions to provide a dedicated ADSL or VDSL extension which can help increase your broadband speed because the signal can degrade as it travels through voice telephone extension wiring.
It is always best to install your router by your master socket but if this is not possible then follow the steps in this video.
By using the setup in this video you stop the broadband signal travelling down the voice extensions and allow it to travel down a twisted pair of wires to the location of your router.
In the UK master sockets are often located in the hallway because historically people had a single telephone in the hallway but this is not the ideal place for a router as most people want the router hidden away or next to the computer.
In the video the router stats which shows what the line is capable of achieving went up over 60% but the actual results on speedtest.net stayed the same but this is due to DLM (Dynamic Line Management) which on Plusnet broadband can take up to 3 days to change so within 3 days of this video the actual speedtest.net speed would increase in line or just below the actual router stats. In hindsight I should have shown the before and after router stats page but I didn't BUT I did note down the results as a comparison. Thanks for watching.

So they founded "Bredbandsskolan", an online tool kit to educate their clients about internet and broadband.

In a partnership between Sky and Universal, this spot depicts the evolution of the internet from dial up to fibre.
APPROACH /
We were invited to score the progression of the internet from the Stone Age to the modern day. Our composition takes influence from classic film scores and was written in a reactive and sympathetic manner, responding to the various settings and events played out. Whilst the score is predominantly orchestral we remained conscious of the overarching theme of moving through the ages and adapted the style throughout to reflect that.
