Ljubljana (Slovene: [ljuˈbljàːna];[luˈblàːna], also known by other alternative names) is the capital and largest city of Slovenia. During antiquity, it was the site of a Roman city called Emona. It was under Habsburg rule from the Middle Ages until the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918.
Situated at the middle of a trade route between the northern Adriatic Sea and the Danube region, it was the historical capital of Carniola, a Slovene-inhabited part of the Habsburg Monarchy, and it has been the cultural, educational, economic, political, and administrative center of independent Slovenia since 1991. Its central geographic location within Slovenia, transport connections, concentration of industry, scientific and research institutions and cultural tradition are contributing factors to its leading position.
Coordinates: 46°07′N 14°49′E / 46.117°N 14.817°E / 46.117; 14.817
Slovenia (i/sloʊˈviːniə, slə-, -njə/sloh-VEE-nee-ə; Slovene: Slovenija [slɔˈʋéːnija]), officially the Republic of Slovenia (Slovene:
Republika Slovenija ,abbr.: RS), is a nation state in southern Central Europe, located at the crossroads of main European cultural and trade routes. It is bordered by Italy to the west, Austria to the north, Hungary to the northeast, Croatia to the south and southeast, and the Adriatic Sea to the southwest. It covers 20,273 square kilometers (7,827 sq mi) and has a population of 2.06 million. It is a parliamentary republic and a member of the United Nations, European Union, and NATO.The capital and largest city is Ljubljana.
The territory is mostly mountainous with a mainly continental climate, with the exception of the Slovene Littoral that has a sub-Mediterranean climate and the north-western area that has an Alpine climate. Additionally, the Dinaric Alps and the Pannonian Plain meet on the territory of Slovenia. The country, marked by a significant biological diversity, is one of the most water-rich in Europe, with a dense river network, a rich aquifer system, and significant karst underground watercourses. Over half of the territory is covered by forest. The human settlement of Slovenia is dispersed and uneven.

http://forgetsomeday.com There is always something to do in the small Slovenian capital city of Ljubljana. Museums, river tours, fresh food markets, food tours, and the weekly open kitchen are among the many possibilities in this charming European town. Rent a bike to explore the city, visit the local brewery, and stroll through Tivoli Park at sunset to see the open air art gallery.
Being the midpoint between the Slavic, Germanic, and Italian worlds gives Ljubljana a special spice. This tiny town has only about a quarter-million people, but it's by far the country's largest city, cultural capital, and a charming place to kick off any Slovenian trip. For more information on the Rick Steves' Europe TV series — including episode descriptions, scripts, participating stations, travel information on destinations and more — visit http://www.ricksteves.com.
Ljubljana is the capital of the young republic of Slovenia, a city of culture and history, elegance and charm. It is Slovenia’s ‘Florence’ situated between the Alps and the Balkans, the Adriatic and Lake Balaton. The Old Place, with a monument of national poet, Prešeren, is the gateway to the Old Town. With its pink marble façade, the Early Baroque Franciscan Church Of Mary dominates the square. The Dom Church Stolnica was built according to the design of Venetian, Andrea Pozzo in the 17th century. The interior of this Baroque church is quite overwhelming and with great attention to detail. Situated on the four hundred metre high Castle Hill, the Slovenian Acropolis was once inhabited by the Illyrians and Celts. The Roman watchtower later became both a strategic fortress and castle. Little Slovenia is the least visited and most underrated of Europe's alpine countries. From its prosperous capital of Ljubljana, we enjoy the mountain resort of Lake Bled, venture into the Julian Alps for natural thrills mixed with World War I history, go spelunking in a gigantic cave, and swim with Slavs in a charming Adriatic port. © 2010 Rick Steves' Europe

This dashcam covers the route from Plitvice Lakes, Croatia to just south of Ljubljana, Slovenia. It starts in a parking lot, and follows regional road number 1 up to Karlovac. From there it follows E17 to Zagreb, and then a left onto the A3 up to the Croatia/Slovenia border crossing (still a controlled border at the time the video was recorded). The video then ends with a drive up the A2 towards Ljubljana, ending somewhere south of the city. The dashcam I used is a DOD LS430W. Sorry, no music on this one. YouTube is VERY annoying when it comes to music and they block things or I get copyright claims even though I use music released under CC-By.
