Gijón (/ɡɪˈhɒn/, /ɡiˈhɔːn/, /hiˈhɔːn/ or /xiˈxɔːn/, Spanish: [xiˈxon]), or Xixón (Asturian: [ʃiˈʃoŋ]) is the largest city and municipality in the autonomous community of Asturias in Spain. Early medieval texts mention it as "Gigia". It is located on the Bay of Biscay, approximately 20 km (12 mi) north of Oviedo, the capital of Asturias.
The first evidences of human presence in what is known nowadays as municipality of Gijón are located in Monte Deva, where exist a serie of tumulus, and in Monte Areo, where there are some neolithic dolmens. These dolmens were discovered in 1990 and is supposed it was built about 5000 BC.
The first noticed settlement (Noega) is located in Campa Torres. It has its origin between the 6th and 5th centuries BC. It was populated by Astures (Cilúrnigos) and later Romanized. Noega was progressively abandoned when the Roman wall in the peninsula of Cimavilla, called the Gegionem, was built.
This wall was the most important one of the Roman Asturias and it should be an important port of the Cantabric sea route and also, it crossed the center of Asturias by Lucus Asturum (nowadays Llanera) and linked in Asturica Augusta with the Ruta de la Plata (Silver route).

Spain (i/ˈspeɪn/; Spanish: España [esˈpaɲa]), officially the Kingdom of Spain (Spanish: Reino de España), is a sovereign state largely located on the Iberian Peninsula in southwestern Europe, with archipelagos in the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea, and several small territories on and near the north African coast. Its mainland is bordered to the south and east by the Mediterranean Sea except for a small land boundary with Gibraltar; to the north and northeast by France, Andorra, and the Bay of Biscay; and to the west and northwest by Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean. Along with France and Morocco, it is one of only three countries to have both Atlantic and Mediterranean coastlines. Extending to 1,214 km (754 mi), the Portugal–Spain border is the longest uninterrupted border within the European Union.
Spanish territory includes two archipelagos: the Balearic Islands, in the Mediterranean Sea, and the Canary Islands, in the Atlantic Ocean off the African coast. It also includes two major exclaves, Ceuta and Melilla, in continental North Africa; and the islands and peñones (rocks) of Alborán, Alhucemas, Chafarinas and Vélez de la Gomera. With an area of 505,990 km2 (195,360 sq mi), Spain is the second largest country in Western Europe and the European Union, and the fourth largest country in Europe. By population, Spain is the sixth largest in Europe and the fifth in the European Union.
Asturias (English /ɑːˈstʊəriəsˌ ə-/; Spanish: [asˈtuɾjas]; Asturian: Asturies [asˈtuɾjes]), officially the Principality of Asturias (Spanish: Principado de Asturias; Asturian: Principáu d'Asturies), is an autonomous community in north-west Spain. It is coextensive with the province of Asturias, and contains some of the territory that was part of the larger Kingdom of Asturias in the Middle Ages. Divided into eight comarcas (counties), the autonomous community of Asturias is bordered by Cantabria to the east, by Castile and León to the south, by Galicia to the west, and by the Bay of Biscay to the north.
The most important cities are the communal capital, Oviedo (Uviéu or Uvieo), the seaport and largest city Gijón (Xixón), and the industrial town of Avilés. Other municipalities in Asturias include Cangas de Onís (Cangues d'Onís), Cangas del Narcea, Gozón, Grado (Grau or Grao), Langreo (Llangréu), Llanera, Laviana (Llaviana), Lena (Ḷḷena), Llanes, Mieres, Siero, Valdés, Vegadeo (A Veiga) and Villaviciosa (see also List of municipalities and comarcas in Asturias).
Creative Commons (CC) is a non-profit organization devoted to expanding the range of creative works available for others to build upon legally and to share. The organization has released several copyright-licenses known as Creative Commons licenses free of charge to the public. These licenses allow creators to communicate which rights they reserve, and which rights they waive for the benefit of recipients or other creators. An easy-to-understand one-page explanation of rights, with associated visual symbols, explains the specifics of each Creative Commons license. Creative Commons licenses do not replace copyright, but are based upon it. They replace individual negotiations for specific rights between copyright owner (licensor) and licensee, which are necessary under an "all rights reserved" copyright management, with a "some rights reserved" management employing standardized licenses for re-use cases where no commercial compensation is sought by the copyright owner. The result is an agile, low-overhead and low-cost copyright-management regime, profiting both copyright owners and licensees. Wikipedia uses one of these licenses.
San Lorenzo is the Italian and Spanish name for Saint Lawrence, the 3rd-century Christian martyr, and may refer to:
On the shores of the Cantabrian Sea, Gijón offers an attractive combination of maritime tradition, monumental heritage and modern urban planning right on the seashore. Its marina is a testament to its close links with the sea throughout its history. Its various major constructions date from the city's past as a Roman settlement, from its development in the 16th century when the Catholic monarchs decided to install a port here, and from the boom enjoyed by the area at the time of the Enlightenment, primarily thanks to Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos. source:http://www.spain.info/en/que-quieres/ciudades-pueblos/otros-destinos/gijon.html

A stroll through the streets of downtown and marina of the city of Gijón (Spain).
In today's video I am going to show you a short narrative from the trip to Gijón, which is about 20 kilometers from Oviedo. The most beautiful parts of the city is the Old City, the climatic restaurants, the park with a view to the Atlantic Ocean. I like also the Jovellanos, Public Library and church buildings :) The weather was pretty good, despite sun didn't shine for the whole day. For me, Oviedo is prettier and has more green belts all over the city, but Gijón is still worth seeing, because is just different ;-) ◆◆ ◆◆ ◆◆ ◆◆ ◆◆ ◆◆ ◆◆ ◆◆ ◆◆ ◆◆ ★ I recommend to watch a video in the HD quality. ★ INSTAGRAM ⇒ https://www.instagram.com/fantas_magoria ★ ★ ★ I do not own the MUSIC used in a video★ ★ ★ NoCopyrightSounds: Cartoon - On & On (feat. The beach of San Lorenzo is located in the center of Gijón. With a length of 1550 meters and shell shape, it is one of the most emblematic beaches of the Principality of Asturias. It extends from the staircase 0 ("La Cantabrica"), located behind the Church of San Pedro, to the staircase number 16 (area popularly known as "the Tostaderu"), at the mouth of the river Piles. However, a rocky area extends for a further three hundred meters to the "Mayán de Tierra", reaching a total length of about 1.8 km. Parallel to it is the Paseo del Muro de San Lorenzo, which continues to the East beyond the beach itself with the famous coastal path of Cervigón, a maritime route of more than 2 kilometers that brings us closer to other beaches such as the Rinconín or the Of Peñarrubia. It is characterized by...

Today, Silver Whisper called on Gijon, in northern Spain. We took Silversea's free shuttle service between the ship and city center, about 20 minutes. On larger ships, I've had to pay for shuttle service, as much as 8 euros per person (about US$10). We were impressed by the city itself, but we were blown away by the tradition of cider pouring. My understanding is that you only buy cider by the bottle in so-called siderias, or cider houses. That's when the show begins. The bartender uncorks the bottle, lifts it above his head and pours the cider into a glass below his waist, both arms fully extended. Missing the glass: remarkably little.
Places to see in ( Gijon - Spain ) Laboral Ciudad de la Cultura The Universidad Laboral de Gijón is located in Gijón (Asturias, Spain) specifically in the parish of Cabueñes. Built between 1946 and 1955, it is the most important architectural work built in the 20th century in Asturias and is considered, with its 270,000 m2, the biggest building in Spain. On 19 May 2016 the Universidad Laboral was declared Bien de Interés Cultural. Laboral Ciudad de la Cultura is built with its back facing Gijón. Luis Moya designed it based on the Parthenon, with the aim of surrounding the building before entering to enjoy its full magnificence . Several institutions are located in the main building, such as LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial, faculties of the University of Oviedo, the Drama H...
