Euthanasia (from Greek: εὐθανασία; "good death": εὖ, eu; "well" or "good" – θάνατος, thanatos; "death") is the practice of intentionally ending a life in order to relieve pain and suffering.
There are different euthanasia laws in each country. The British House of Lords Select Committee on Medical Ethics defines euthanasia as "a deliberate intervention undertaken with the express intention of ending a life, to relieve intractable suffering". In the Netherlands and Flanders, euthanasia is understood as "termination of life by a doctor at the request of a patient".
Euthanasia is categorized in different ways, which include voluntary, non-voluntary, or involuntary. Voluntary euthanasia is legal in some countries. Non-voluntary euthanasia (patient's consent unavailable) is illegal in all countries. Involuntary euthanasia (without asking consent or against the patient's will) is also illegal in all countries and is usually considered murder. As of 2006, euthanasia is the most active area of research in contemporary bioethics.
Assisted suicide is suicide committed with the aid of another person, sometimes a physician. The term is often used interchangeably with physician-assisted suicide (PAS), which involves a doctor "knowingly and intentionally providing a person with the knowledge or means or both required to commit suicide, including counselling about lethal doses of drugs, prescribing such lethal doses or supplying the drugs." Assisted suicide and euthanasia are sometimes combined under the umbrella term "assisted dying", an example of a trend by advocates to replace the word "suicide" with "death" or ideally, "dying". Other euphemisms in common use are "physician-assisted dying", "physician-assisted death", "aid in dying", "death with dignity", "right to die" "compassionate death", "compassionate dying", "end-of-life choice", and "medical assistance at the end of life".
Physician-assisted suicide is often confused with euthanasia (sometimes called "mercy killing"). In cases of euthanasia the physician administers the means of death, usually a lethal drug. Physician-assisted suicide (PAS) is always at the request and with the consent of the patient, since he or she self-administers the means of death.

In this video series, common misconceptions about "medically assisted dying" are addressed. This video answers the frequently asked question of why we don't treat human beings with the same compassion as animals when they are suffering and dying? A claim this video makes has been contested, namely that depression is commonly assisted with requests for euthanasia or assisted suicide. In support of this, please see the ground breaking study by M.L. van der Lee et al. at http://jco.ascopubs.org/content/23/27/6607.full van der Lee and his associates went into the study with a preconceived notion that requests for assisted dying and depression were not linked. They were surprised by their own findings to the contrary. They write: "In the protocol for the present study, we hypothesized that...
Grace and Hasan tackle the tough subject of doctor assisted suicide for minors. What do you think of Belgium's new process for euthanasia of minors? “A 17-year-old has ended their life through doctor-assisted suicide in Belgium, the head of the National Committee for Euthanasia said. The 17-year-old is the first minor to do so under rules adopted in 2014 allowing voluntary euthanasia for people of all age. Wim Distelmans, who chairs Belgium's Federal Control and Evaluation Committee on Euthanasia, said the minor was 17 and a local doctor had reported the case to his committee last week, but he gave no other details. Belgium legalised euthanasia in 2002 and two years ago amended the rules to permit doctor-assisted death for minors in a hopeless medical situation and with their explicit ...

I see the future
I see the future coming down on me
Swimming in the sea, coming down on me
Say goodbye, then hit the sky
Say goodbye, then hit the sky
It's lost in space
Somewhere in time, born too late
Too high to climb, too high, too late
Say goodbye, then hit the sky
Say goodbye, then hit the sky
Come into the light, feel alive
Come into the light, feel alright
I'm out of mind, put out of sight
I looked into the future
Now my mind's not right
But it's out of sight
Say goodbye, then hit the sky
Say goodbye, then hit the sky
Heat from the sun
Ignites the air, the air that we breathe
What did you achieve?
Just what did you achieve?
Say goodbye, then hit the sky
Say goodbye, then hit the sky
Come into the light, feel alive
Come into the light, feel alright
Come into the light, feel alive
Come into the light, feel alright
Come into the light, feel alive
Come into the light, feel alright
Come into the light, feel alive
