Singin'... is a 1977 album release by Melissa Manchester on Arista Records.
This was Manchester's sixth album and fourth and final collaboration with producer Vini Poncia who had produced her 1975 commercial breakthrough Melissa.
After the first of Manchester's two 1976 album releases': Better Days and Happy Endings failed to consolidate her stardom Arista had attempted to restore Manchester's chart fortunes by making the lead single from the subsequent Help Is on the Way album not a Manchester original but rather the Michael Franks composition "Monkey See, Monkey Do". This strategy proving unsuccessful Arista then had Manchester record "Singin'..." which eschewed Manchester's songwriting – save for one track: "No One's Ever Seen This Side of Me" – in favor of outside material including remakes of hits by Michael Jackson ("I Wanna Be Where You Are"), Sly and the Family Stone ("Stand"), Three Dog Night ("Let Me Serenade You") and the Beach Boys ("The Warmth of the Sun"). The tracklisting was completed by Manchester's versions of songs written and previously recorded by James Taylor ("You Make It Easy") and Wendy Waldman ("My Love Is All I Know") and a new song: "Sad Eyes" written by David Spinozza who played guitar on the album.
Singin' in the Rain is a 1952 American musical comedy film directed by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen, starring Kelly, Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds, and choreographed by Kelly and Donen. It offers a lighthearted depiction of Hollywood in the late '20s, with the three stars portraying performers caught up in the transition from silent films to "talkies."
The film was only a modest hit when first released, with only Donald O'Connor's win at the Golden Globe Awards, Betty Comden and Adolph Green's win for their screenplay at the Writers Guild of America Awards, and Jean Hagen's nomination at the Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actress being the only major recognitions it received. However, it was accorded its legendary status by contemporary critics. It is now frequently regarded as one of the best musicals ever made, and the best film ever made in the "Arthur Freed Unit" at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It topped the AFI's Greatest Movie Musicals list, and is ranked as the fifth greatest American motion picture of all time in its updated list of the greatest American films in 2007.
Eugene Curran "Gene" Kelly (August 23, 1912 – February 2, 1996) was an American-Irish dancer, actor, singer, film director, producer and choreographer. He was known for his energetic and athletic dancing style, his good looks, and the likeable characters that he played on screen.
Best known today for his performances in films such as An American in Paris (1951), Anchors Aweigh (1945), and Singin' in the Rain (1952), he was a dominant force in musical films until they fell out of fashion in the late 1950s. His many innovations transformed the Hollywood musical and he is credited with almost single-handedly making the ballet form commercially acceptable to film audiences. Kelly received an Academy Honorary Award in 1952 for his career achievements. He later received lifetime achievement awards in the Kennedy Center Honors (1982), and from the Screen Actors Guild and American Film Institute. In 1999, the American Film Institute also numbered him 15th in their Greatest Male Stars of Classic Hollywood cinema list.
The Rain were the Manchester band that eventually evolved into Oasis. The band formed in Manchester, England in 1991, taking their name from The Beatles' B-side, "Rain". Founding members were Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs (guitar), Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan (bass), Chris Hutton (vocals). Drummer Tony McCarroll joined shortly after the band formed to replace their drum machine and Hutton was replaced as vocalist by Liam Gallagher, who became the band's songwriter, in partnership with Arthurs. In this partnership, they wrote several songs including "Take Me" and "Life in Vain". The band rehearsed only one day a week and did not perform at shows often.
Shortly after Liam joined, the band was renamed Oasis, at his suggestion. Various explanations of the origins of the name have been offered, however, it came about when Liam’s older brother Noel roadied for the Inspiral Carpets at a venue in Swindon called the Oasis Leisure Centre. Liam reportedly liked the name's "resonance of imagery."
One day in August 1991, Noel, having recently returned from the Inspiral Carpets' tour of the U.S., went to watch his brother's band perform at the Manchester Boardwalk, supporting a band called Sweet Jesus. Noel offered to join, reportedly on condition that he would be the lead guitarist and they would perform only his songs. Noel made an instant impact on the band, he began to introduce new sounds and ways of creating music. After a few small warm up gigs in towns such as Middlesbrough, the band decided to produce Definitely Maybe, under the name of Oasis.

"Good Morning" [Originally Written for Garland & Rooney's 1939 film, Babes In Arms] Words by Arthur Freed Music by Nacio Herb Brown Lyrics: Good mornin', good mornin'! We've danced the whole night through, good mornin', good mornin' to you. Good mornin', good mornin'! It's great to stay up late, good mornin', good mornin' to you. When the band began to play the sun was shinin' bright. Now the milkman's on his way, it's too late to say goodnight. So, good mornin', good mornin'! Sunbeams will soon smile through, good mornin', my darlin', to you. Here we are together, a couple of stand-uppers. Our day is done, breakfast time starts with our supper. Here we are together, ah, but the best of friends must party. So let me sing this party song from the bottom of my hearty. Good morning, i...

singing's a fine lively hood, the only one I got!
Struggled to make the rent sometimes,
since termination of the day job.
Kinda weird my work day starts when the sky is cool and black.
But I guess I should figure out on what I should fall back.
I could take up auto-body and work in some guy's shop.
Fixin' bitchin hotrods,
I sure like cars a lot.
Perhaps I'll study law,
be a public defender.
But I'll need a lot of Maalox.
I couldn't take the pressure.
Would you like me for your vet?
Or your docter who examines you?
Lady luck I met.
So your ass should say phew!
But I'll just do what I do
cuz I like it a whole lot.
Singin's a fine livelihood!
