Morning Impro #7 | Fragmented Journey
My 7th video in an ongoing series of completely improvised piano pieces every morning.
It was a rough journey to the production of this video.
I had shot one already but noticed afterwards that I had forgot to turn on the mic. Bummer. So I had to record another video which actually ruins my approach a bit as this series is supposed to be first take videos every morning. Well, shortly after beginning the second video one of my spotlights went dark so I had to start a third one.
So here's today's video, pretty different from the actual first one of the day. But what can you do...

HOW IT WORKS: original tracks are recorded and edited using Logic Pro on the 2010 Imac. The tracks are then exported as wav files and imported into Mainstage 3.0. Most of the songs are 4 or 5 tracks at the most: drums/percussion; keys; bass and guitar. On a few tracks there is a backing vocal or fx track. Naming the wav files is very important, with 20x4/5 tracks can be confusing.

HOW IT WORKS: original tracks are recorded and edited using Logic Pro on the 2010 Imac. The tracks are then exported as wav files and imported into Mainstage 3.0. To broadcast live I use Audio Hijack together with Mainstage to broadcast out on to the livestream.
The live vocals and guitar are mixed through a Soundcraft Notepad 12FX via USB in to Audio Hijack. On the live vocals I use a standard SM58 with a TC Helicon harmonyM and the built in FX on the Soundcraft. For guitar I use an ancient Vox Tonelab LE with a Morely Wah, EHX Big Muff and TC HOF on the insert channel. The guitars I use are a 2002 Gibson SG Standard; 2007 G&L; ASAT Semi Hollow and a Vintage Jimi Hendrix Tribute model [as seen in the video]. The Vox Tonelab feeds directly in to the Soundcaft board. There is no external sound other than my natural vocals and the acoustic noise of the guitar, everything goes through the Sennheiser HD500 headphones and the Marantz 1530 receiver.
The old 2010 Imac can handle the audio portions of the livestream however, the video is streamed to my Dell G5 and in to my 48 inch Samsung Smart TV via HDMI
ABOUT WIGAN CASINO
Originally known as The Empress Ballroom built in the 1890's The Wigan Casino was a nightclub in Wigan, England. Operating between 1973 and 1981,[1] it became known as a primary venue for Northern soul music. It carried forward the legacy created by clubs such as the Twisted Wheel in Manchester, the Chateau Impney (Droitwich), the Catacombs (Wolverhampton) and the Golden Torch (Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent). It remains one of the most famous clubs in Northern England.[2] In 1978, the American music magazine Billboard voted Wigan Casino "The Best Disco in the World", ahead of New York's Studio 54.[3]
This England, a TV documentary about the Wigan Casino, was filmed in 1977. Russ Winstanley and Dave Nowell wrote a history of the club, Soul Survivors, The Wigan Casino Story, which was published in 1996. A stage play by Mick Martin about the Wigan Casino years, Once upon a time in Wigan, debuted in February 2003 at the Contact Theatre in Manchester and has since toured nationally.
The building was destroyed by fire in 1981 and replaced by a shopping mall some years later after Roman ruins were found close by.
The Virtual version of the Casino is built from the ashes of its RL original complete with on stage piano, ruined walls and dancefloor - yet the music survives and DJ IAN [from Wigan] attempts to keep that flame alive.
