Griffin

The griffin, griffon, or gryphon (Greek: γρύφων, grýphōn, or γρύπων, grýpōn, early form γρύψ, grýps; Latin: gryphus) is a legendary creature with the body, tail, and back legs of a lion; the head and wings of an eagle; and an eagle's talons as its front feet. Because the lion was traditionally considered the king of the beasts and the eagle the king of birds, the griffin was thought to be an especially powerful and majestic creature. The griffin was also thought of as king of all creatures. Griffins are known for guarding treasure and priceless possessions.Adrienne Mayor, a classical folklorist, proposes that the griffin was an ancient misconception derived from the fossilized remains of the Protoceratops found in gold mines in the Altai mountains of Scythia, in present-day southeastern Kazakhstan, or in Mongolia. In antiquity it was a symbol of divine power and a guardian of the divine.

Etymology

The derivation of this word remains uncertain. It could be related to the Greek word γρυπός (grypos), meaning 'curved', or 'hooked'. Also, this could have been an Anatolian loan word, compare Akkadian karūbu (winged creature), and similar to Cherub. A related Hebrew word is כרוב (kerúv).

Josef Salvat

Josef Salvat (born October 28, 1988) is an Australian singer and songwriter.

Career

Salvat had his first international success after the release of his EP In Your Prime when Sony picked his cover of Rihanna's song "Diamonds" for promotion of Sony's new 4K Ultra HD television screen. Salvat has appeared in a number of important music festivals including Lovebox Festival in London, Lowlands in the Netherlands and collaborated with British recording engineer, record producer and mixer Dan Grech-Marguerat. He also opened for American singer-songwriter Banks in the British leg of her Goddess Tour in November 2014. His song "Shoot and Run" has also been featured on the TV advert for "Black Work" on ITV June 2015. Within the early months of the year, his first single of 2015, entitled "Hustler" was released after the success of both songs. This song also came with the release of the song "Every Night", which was done so as a digital download. In the summer months of the year, the single "Till I Found You" was then released, which followed the song "Open Season" to be released a few months later. In October 2015, his debut album "Night Swim" was released only in France.

Bipolar Sunshine

Bipolar Sunshine is the pseudonym of English singer Adio Marchant. Previously the co-vocalist with the Manchester band Kid British, he embarked on a solo career in 2013. Signed to Polydor/Aesthetic Recording, he has released two EPs to date and is currently working on his debut album.

Career

Marchant was raised in Didsbury, south Manchester, by Jamaican parents who separated when he was still young. In 2007, he co-founded and contributed vocals in the six-piece Kid British. The band went on to have a moderately successful career and released five EPs between 2009 and 2012 before splitting with a final farewell gig in Manchester in December 2012.

His debut solo EP as Bipolar Sunshine, Aesthetics, was released in June 2013, with the lead track "Rivers" becoming iTunes' 'free single of the week'. His next EP Drowning Butterflies followed in November 2013 and featured the single "Love More Worry Less". In 2014, Bipolar Sunshine embarked on A Dream for Dreamer's Tour in the UK, with his London show at XOYO sold out 5 weeks in advance. He released two singles: "Where Did the Love Go" which was featured on BBC Radio 1's playlist and "Deckchairs on the Moon" which charted at no. 85 in the UK Singles Sales Chart and no. 93 in the UK Downloads Chart. He appeared at Blissfields festival and headlined Shepherd's Bush Empire.

Heading Home

Heading Home (also called Headin' Home) is a 1920 American silent film directed by Lawrence C. Windom. It attempts to create a mythology surrounding the life of baseball player Babe Ruth.

The screenplay was written by Arthur "Bugs" Baer from a story by Earle Browne. Besides Ruth, it stars Ruth Taylor, William Sheer and Margaret Seddon.

Plot summary

Ruth stars in the film, playing himself, but the details of his life are completely fictionalized. In the film, Ruth comes from a small country town and has a loving home life, but in real life, he grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, and spent most of his childhood in a reformatory . In the film, shades of the baseball movie The Natural, Ruth cuts down a tree to make his own bat.
