Betsy Palmer (November 1, 1926 – May 29, 2015) was an American actress, known as a regular panelist on the game show I've Got a Secret, and later for playing the murderous serial killer mother, Pamela Voorhees in the slasher film Friday the 13th.
Palmer was born Patricia Betsy Hrunek in East Chicago, Indiana, the daughter of Marie (née Love), who launched the Chicago Business College, and Rudolph Vincent Hrunek, an industrial chemist who was an immigrant from Czechoslovakia. She graduated from DePaul University, where she studied theater.
Palmer got her first acting job in 1951 when she joined the cast of the 15-minute weekday television soap opera Miss Susan, which was produced in Philadelphia. She was "discovered" for this role while attending a party in the apartment of actor Frank Sutton (Gunnery Sergeant Vince Carter of Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.). She had been in Manhattan less than one week.
A life member of The Actors Studio, Palmer's stage work included a tour of South Pacific (as Nellie Forbush) and the title role in Maggie, a 1953 musicalization of What Every Woman Knows.
Friday the 13th is considered an unlucky day in Western superstition. It occurs when the 13th day of the month in the Gregorian calendar falls on a Friday.
The fear of the number 13 has been given a scientific name: "triskaidekaphobia"; and on analogy to this the fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskevidekatriaphobia, from the Greek words Paraskeví (Παρασκευή, meaning "Friday"), and dekatreís (δεκατρείς, meaning "thirteen").
The superstition surrounding this day may have arisen in the Middle Ages, "originating from the story of Jesus' last supper and crucifixion" in which there were 13 individuals present in the Upper Room on the 13th of Nisan Maundy Thursday, the night before his death on Good Friday. While there is evidence of both Friday and the number 13 being considered unlucky, there is no record of the two items being referred to as especially unlucky in conjunction before the 19th century.
An early documented reference in English occurs in Henry Sutherland Edwards' 1869 biography of Gioachino Rossini, who died on a Friday 13th:
Sean Sexton Cunningham (born December 1, 1941) is an American film director, producer, and writer.
Cunningham graduated from Franklin and Marshall College and studied for a master's degree at Stanford University.
His first jobs were managing theater companies such as New York's Lincoln Center, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and the Mineola Theater in Long Island. He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Directors Guild of America. Cunningham is best known for creating the Friday the 13th series of horror films, which introduced the fictional killer Jason Voorhees. Of the 12 films in the series, the ones that had Sean's involvement were the original, Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, Jason X, Freddy vs. Jason, and the 2009 reboot. He has also produced many horror films, such as the House series and Wes Craven's debut feature, The Last House on the Left. He is the founder and CEO of Crystal Lake Entertainment. Cunningham is set to produce the CW series adaption of Friday the 13th.

I have known actress Betsy Palmer since I was 15 years old. That’s a lot of years. I have been her manager since the mid-1980’s. That’s also a lot of years. I’m so sad to have to report that Betsy died last Friday (5/29/15), at age 88, of natural causes, in a hospice care center near her Connecticut home. She was one of the most gracious, kind, generous and loving people I have ever known. No holiday, no birthday, no personal event ever went unacknowledged or celebrated. Today I celebrate Betsy and the wonderful life she led. While she achieved fame and success for the work she did, she earned admiration and respect for the person she was. There are many, many happy memories for me. One of them happened on April 1991, when Betsy and I met for a chat on the live coffee shop chat series my ...

Palmer died Friday of natural causes at a hospice care center in Connecticut, her longtime manager, Brad Lemack, told The Associated Press on Sunday. Palmer had appeared in films, on Broadway and in TV shows for decades before she took the role of Mrs. Voorhees in the 1980 movie in which young camp counselors suddenly begin meeting their bloody demise. Her film credits included "Mr. Roberts" with Henry Fonda, "The Long Gray Line" with Tyrone Power and Maureen O'Hara, "Queen Bee" with Joan Crawford, and "The Tin Star" with Fonda and Anthony Perkins.
