The Kung Fu Panda franchise from DreamWorks Animation, consists of two films: Kung Fu Panda (2008) and Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011). In addition, both films were the most successful animated feature film for their years and the second is currently the biggest worldwide box office success for a movie directed solely by a woman (Jennifer Yuh Nelson). A third film, Kung Fu Panda 3, is set to be released in 2016.

They then happened upon a secret village of pandas, who used their knowledge of chi to heal Oogway. Fascinated by the power, Oogway was taught by the pandas on how to utilize it. Kai, however, became interested solely in using it to increase his own power, taking chi from others rather than giving it. Their relationship broken, the two former allies fought fiercely until Oogway triumphed, banishing Kai to the Spirit Realm where he was imprisoned for five hundred years

Master Oogway was an elderly tortoise and the previous senior master of the Jade Palace. He is credited as the founder of the Valley of Peace, the creator of kung fu, and the developer of the Dragon Warrior legend.
Highly venerated for his wisdom, knowledge, and experience, Oogway was considered by many to be a sage. He was greatly respected by Shifu, the Furious Five, Po, the entire Valley of Peace, and all of China. He was known as the greatest kung fu master in history, having no other reputation surpass his (other than the legend of the Dragon Warrior). He spent his life dedicated to preserving the art of kung fu as a force for good, and passed on this and many of his other teachings to his students. In the small remainder of his life, he had the chance to finally locate the Dragon Warrior before he ascended into the Spirit Realm.

Kung Fu Panda 3 is an upcoming 3D American-Chinese computer-animated action comedy martial arts film, produced by DreamWorks Animation and Oriental DreamWorks.

Master Shifu is one of the main supporting characters of the Kung Fu Panda franchise. He is the current senior master of the Jade Palace and trainer of many kung fu warriors, including Po (the Dragon Warrior), the Furious Five, and Tai Lung.
Mei Mei is a female giant panda who resides in the secret panda village. She made her first appearance in Kung Fu Panda 3. She is voiced by Kate Hudson
Master Tigress
is one of the main supporting characters of the Kung Fu Panda franchise. She is a member of the Furious Five as well as one of Master Shifu's students at the Jade Palace. She is a master of the Tiger Style of kung fu.
Tigress first lived at the Bao Gu Orphanage as a child, where she received help in controlling her strength and temper from Shifu, who later took her in as his student. Over the years, she trained under Shifu's strict instruction, developing into a powerful fighter and forming a stern personality. Eventually she became a member of the Furious Five along withMantis, Viper, Monkey, and Crane. Of the Five, she was the most skeptical of Po's calling as the Dragon Warrior, but has since accepted his title. She now fights alongside Po as a loyal friend and ally.

Kai
(also known as The Collector) is the main antagonist of Kung Fu Panda 3. He was a warrior and the general of an army which he led alongside his brother-in-arms Oogway.
Kai fought alongside Oogway as close friends, but after he learned how to steal the chi of others, Oogway banished him to the Spirit Realm. Five hundred years later, he returned to the mortal realm as a Spirit Warrior and sought to steal the chi from every kung fu master and destroy Oogway's legacy. With the help of his jombies, he nearly accomplished his goal, but he was eventually defeated by Po.
Bao is a young giant panda who resides in the secret panda village. He is a character that made his first appearance in the film, Kung Fu Panda 3. He is voiced by Steele Gagnon. Bao is one of several pandas that Po meets when he and his father travel to the hiddenpanda hideout. Bao has been seen in an image making a kung fu pose with Po, though it is currently unknown if he will actually learn it.

DreamWorks Animation announces a third installment and a spinoff to two of their most popular franchises and we have the details!
DreamWorks Animation COO Bill Damaschke hit up San Diego Comic-Con to discuss their upcoming animated features Rise of the Guardians and The Croods and revealed to fans in attendance that the studio is currently working on a third installment of the successful Kung Fu Panda franchise as well as a spinoff to their Madagascar series which will focus solely on the group of penguins from the films.
No word yet on a release date for Kung Fu Panda 3, but Jack Black will reprise his role as Po. The first film, released in 2008 grossed $633 million worldwide, while its sequel took in $663 million when it was released last year.
The Penguins of Madagascar film will hit theaters sometime in 2015 and hopes to continue the success of the three Madagascar films that have earned nearly $1.5 billion at the box office since the first film released in 2005. The latest installment, Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted held the top spot for two weekends when it was released last month.

Kung Fu Panda
Kung Fu Panda is a 2008 American computer-animated action comedy martial arts film produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Paramount Pictures. It was directed by John Stevenson and Mark Osborne and produced by Melissa Cobb, and stars the voices of Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Ian McShane, Seth Rogen, Lucy Liu, David Cross, Randall Duk Kim, James Hong, and Jackie Chan. Set in a version of ancient China populated by anthropomorphic talking animals, the plot revolves around a bumbling panda named Po who aspires to be a kung fu master. When an evil kung fu warrior is foretold to escape from 500 years in spirit prison, Po is unwittingly named the chosen one destined to bring peace to the land, much to the chagrin of the resident kung fu warriors.
The idea for the film was conceived by Michael Lachance, a DreamWorks Animation executive. The film was originally intended to be a parody, but director Stevenson decided instead to shoot an action comedy wuxia film that incorporates the hero's journey narrative archetype for the lead character. The computer animation in the film was more complex than anything DreamWorks had done before. As with most DreamWorks animated films, Hans Zimmer (collaborating with John Powell this time) scored Kung Fu Panda. He visited China to absorb the culture and get to know the China National Symphony Orchestra as part of his preparation. A sequel, Kung Fu Panda 2, was released on May 26, 2011, along with a television series, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness later that same year as a part of a franchise. The third installment called Kung Fu Panda 3 debuted in January 2016.

Oogway Master Oogway was an elderly tortoise and the previous senior master of the Jade Palace. Highly venerated for his wisdom, knowledge, and experience, Oogway was considered by many to be a sage. He was greatly respected by Shifu, the Furious Five, Po, the entire Valley of Peace, and all of China. He was known as the greatest kung fu master in history, having no other reputation surpass his (other than the legend of the Dragon Warrior). He spent his life dedicated to preserving the art of kung fu as a force for good, and passed on this and many of his other teachings to his students. In the small remainder of his life, he had the chance to finally locate the Dragon Warrior before he ascended into the Spirit Realm. Po Master Po Ping (known simply as Po, and originally named Lotus) is the main protagonist of the Kung Fu Panda franchise. He is the adopted son of Mr. Ping and the biological son of Li Shan and his wife, as well as one of Master Shifu's students at the Jade Palace. He is also the foretold Dragon Warrior of legend, and a master of the Panda Style of kung fu. Originally born in a farming village to his birth parents, Po was separated from his family as a result of a massacre. He was eventually found by Mr. Ping, who adopted him, hoping for Po to inherit the family noodle shop some day. However, Po was drawn to kung fu, and his unwavering enthusiasm led him to be chosen as the Dragon Warrior, after which he began training under Master Shifu. Though clumsy and unaccepted at first, Po persevered, and fulfilled the destiny of the Dragon Warrior by defeating Tai Lung and discerning the Dragon Scroll, proving himself as a hero to everyone, including himself. He now stands with the other Jade Palace masters as a friend and fellow warrior, fighting alongside them to defend the Valley of Peace. Bao is one of several pandas that Po meets when he and his father travel to the hiddenpanda hideout. Bao has been seen in an image making a kung fu pose with Po, though it is currently unknown if he will actually learn it.

DreamWorks Animation announces a third installment and a spinoff to two of their most popular franchises and we have the details!
DreamWorks Animation COO Bill Damaschke hit up San Diego Comic-Con to discuss their upcoming animated features Rise of the Guardians and The Croods and revealed to fans in attendance that the studio is currently working on a third installment of the successful Kung Fu Panda franchise as well as a spinoff to their Madagascar series which will focus solely on the group of penguins from the films.
No word yet on a release date for Kung Fu Panda 3, but Jack Black will reprise his role as Po. The first film, released in 2008 grossed $633 million worldwide, while its sequel took in $663 million when it was released last year.
The Penguins of Madagascar film will hit theaters sometime in 2015 and hopes to continue the success of the three Madagascar films that have earned nearly $1.5 billion at the box office since the first film released in 2005. The latest installment, Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted held the top spot for two weekends when it was released last month.

Master Tigress
is one of the main supporting characters of the Kung Fu Panda franchise. She is a member of the Furious Five as well as one of Master Shifu's students at the Jade Palace. She is a master of the Tiger Style of kung fu.
Tigress first lived at the Bao Gu Orphanage as a child, where she received help in controlling her strength and temper from Shifu, who later took her in as his student. Over the years, she trained under Shifu's strict instruction, developing into a powerful fighter and forming a stern personality. Eventually she became a member of the Furious Five along withMantis, Viper, Monkey, and Crane. Of the Five, she was the most skeptical of Po's calling as the Dragon Warrior, but has since accepted his title. She now fights alongside Po as a loyal friend and ally.
Po Ping
Master (known simply as Po, and originally named Lotus) is the mainprotagonist of the Kung Fu Panda franchise. He is the adopted son of Mr. Ping and the biological son of Li Shan and his wife, as well as one of Master Shifu's students at the Jade Palace. He is also the foretold Dragon Warrior of legend, and a master of the Panda Style ofkung fu.
Originally born in a farming village to his birth parents, Po was separated from his family as a result of a massacre. He was eventually found by Mr. Ping, who adopted him, hoping for Po to inherit the family noodle shop some day. However, Po was drawn to kung fu, and his unwavering enthusiasm led him to be chosen as the Dragon Warrior, after which he began training under Master Shifu. Though clumsy and unaccepted at first, Po persevered, and fulfilled the destiny of the Dragon Warrior by defeating Tai Lung and discerning the Dragon Scroll, proving himself as a hero to everyone, including himself. He now stands with the other Jade Palace masters as a friend and fellow warrior, fighting alongside them to defend the Valley of Peace.
