Pennsylvania i/ˌpɛnsᵻlˈveɪnjə/ (Pennsylvania German: Pennsilfaani), officially the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, is a state located in the northern and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States. The Appalachian Mountains run through its middle. The state borders Delaware to the southeast, Maryland to the south, West Virginia to the southwest, Ohio to the west, Lake Erie and the Canadian province of Ontario to the northwest, New York to the north, and New Jersey to the east.
Pennsylvania is the 33rd largest, the 6th most populous, and the 9th most densely populated of the 50 United States. The state's five most populous cities are Philadelphia (1,560,297), Pittsburgh (305,801), Allentown (118,577), Erie (100,671), and Reading (89,893). The state capital is Harrisburg. Pennsylvania has 51 miles (82 km) of coastline along Lake Erie and 57 miles (92 km) of shoreline along the Delaware Estuary.
The state is one of the 13 original founding states of the United States; it was originally founded in 1681 as a result of a royal land grant to William Penn, the son of the state's namesake. It was the second state to ratify the United States Constitution, on December 12, 1787. Independence Hall, where the United States Declaration of Independence and United States Constitution were drafted, is located in the state's largest city of Philadelphia. During the American Civil War, the Battle of Gettysburg was fought in the south central region of the state.
A supreme court is the highest court within the hierarchy of many legal jurisdictions. Other descriptions for such courts include court of last resort, instance court, judgment court, apex court, and highest court of appeal. Broadly speaking, the decisions of a supreme court are not subject to further review by any other court. Supreme courts typically function primarily as appellate courts, hearing appeals from decisions of lower trial courts, or from intermediate-level appellate courts.
However, not all highest courts are named as such. Civil law states do not tend to have singular highest courts. Additionally, the highest court in some jurisdictions is not named the "Supreme Court", for example, the High Court of Australia; this is because decisions by the High Court could formerly be appealed to the Privy Council. On the other hand, in some places the court named the "Supreme Court" is not in fact the highest court; examples include the New York Supreme Court, the Supreme Courts of several Canadian provinces/territories and the former Supreme Court of Judicature of England and Wales, which are all superseded by higher Courts of Appeal.
The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania is the highest court in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
The original Pennsylvania constitutions, drafted by William Penn, established a Provincial Court under the control of his British governors. The General Assembly, however, espoused the principle of separation of powers and formally called for a third branch of government starting with the 1701 Judiciary Bill. In 1722, the appointed British governor needed the House to raise revenues. House leaders agreed to raise taxes in return for an independent Supreme Court.
Predating the United States Supreme Court by 67 years, Pennsylvania's highest court was established by the General Assembly on May 22, 1722. Interpreting the Pennsylvania Constitution, it was the first independent Supreme Court in the United States with the power to declare laws made by an elected legislative body unconstitutional.
The court meets in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
A judge presides over court proceedings, either alone or as a part of a panel of judges. The powers, functions, method of appointment, discipline, and training of judges vary widely across different jurisdictions. The judge is supposed to conduct the trial impartially and in an open court. The judge hears all the witnesses and any other evidence presented by the barristers of the case, assesses the credibility and arguments of the parties, and then issues a ruling on the matter at hand based on his or her interpretation of the law and his or her own personal judgment. In some jurisdictions, the judge's powers may be shared with a jury. In inquisitorial systems of criminal investigation, a judge might also be an examining magistrate.
A variety of traditions have become associated with the rank or occupation.
In many parts of the world, judges wear long robes (often in black or red) and sit on an elevated platform during trials (known as the bench).
In some countries, especially in the Commonwealth of Nations, judges wear wigs. The long wig often associated with judges is now reserved for ceremonial occasions, although it was part of the standard attire in previous centuries. A short wig resembling but not identical to a barrister's wig would be worn in court. This tradition, however, is being phased out in Britain in non-criminal courts.
Justice, is a concept whose content several times has been subject to a philosophical as well as legal treatment. There is no universal definition of the term. In its most basic form, "justice" is the systematized administration of punishment and reward. Further to this, one can say that justice excludes randomness. The concept of justice is based on numerous fields, and many differing viewpoints and perspectives including the concepts of moral correctness based on law, equity, ethics, rationality, religion, and fairness. Often, the general discussion of justice is divided into the realm of societal justice as found in philosophy, theology and religion, and procedural justice as found in the study and application of the law.

What do you do if a town's police department and a county's district attorney are corrupt? If you're SHARK, you expose them. Unfortunately, there is so much to this case, the original time for a video was well over an hour, with so much official nonsense to debunk. We've posted only the most superficial points. The underbelly of this case is far more insidious. Bottom Line - Steve's offer to take the polygraph examination still stands. If officials actually cared about the truth and any semblance of justice, they would act, but that will never happen. Pennsylvania is a corruption cesspool.

Why are the nation's best known civil rights organizations ignoring a Pennsylvania judge who shoots live pigeons in front of a Confederate flag?
On Tuesday a second Pennsylvania Supreme Court judge - Justice Michael Eakin - resigned from the bench. This is the latest incident in a chain of events begun when state Attorney General Kathleen Kane started releasing hundreds of raunchy and otherwise offensive emails to the media and ethics agencies in 2014. Kane, who herself has been indicted on perjury among other charges - claims the backlash is vindication for her role in taking on the so-called "good ol' boys' club" of Pennsylvania's judiciary and law enforcement agencies. The email scandal has led to dozens of people being disciplined, fired or resigning under pressure, and during tearful testimony before a three-judge panel in December, Eakin apologized for what he said he "allowed to happen," while also blaming news accounts for ...

Michael Conahan, Ciavarella’s partner in crime, was also accused of participating in the bribery incident. The judge received more than $2 million in payoff money from a contractor who was constructing two juvenile detention centers and for extorting hundreds of thousands of dollars from the detention center’s co-owner. The Supreme Court in the state went on to toss out 4,000 convictions issued by Ciavarella from 2003 to 2008. The 61-year-old judge of Pennsylvania was charged with racketeering at the beginning of...

The collective promise of the Pledge of Allegiance to secure “justice for all” is one of America’s great unfulfilled promises, says Marsha Levick, Co-Founder of the Juvenile Law Center. Juvenile courts originally operated in an informal, private manner. The history of juvenile law has seen the pendulum swing back and forth from small progressions to scandalous miscarriages of justice such as the “Kids for Cash” story that came out of Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. Levick illustrates the heartbreaking reality of what happens to children in the justice system whose rights and voices go unconsidered, Levick emphasizes the need to break the cycle of injustice for the two million children arrested each year in our country. Marsha Levick is working to shift public thinking and legal policy nec...
