Macau (/məˈkaʊ/; 澳門; 澳门; "Bay gate"), also spelled Macao, officially known as the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, is a special administrative region on the southern coast of the People's Republic of China. Macau lies on the western side of the Pearl River Delta across from Hong Kong, which is about 64 kilometers to the east, and it is also bordered by Guangdong of Mainland China to the north and the South China Sea to the east and south. With an estimated population of around 636,200 living in an area of 30.3 km2 (11.6 sq mi), it is the most densely populated region in the world.
As Portuguese Macau, it was administered by the Portuguese Empire and its inheritor states from the mid-16th century until late 1999, when it was the last remaining European colony in Asia under Portugal. Portuguese traders first settled in Macau in the 1550s. In 1557, Macau was rented to Portugal from Ming China as a trading port. The Portuguese Empire administered the city under Chinese authority and sovereignty until 1887, when Macau became a colony. Sovereignty over Macau was transferred to China on 20 December 1999. The Joint Declaration on the Question of Macau and Macau Basic Law stipulate that Macau operate with a high degree of autonomy until at least 2049, fifty years after the transfer.
The atmosphere of Earth is the layer of gases surrounding the planet Earth that is retained by Earth's gravity. The atmosphere protects life on Earth by absorbing ultraviolet solar radiation, warming the surface through heat retention (greenhouse effect), and reducing temperature extremes between day and night (the diurnal temperature variation).
The common name air (English pronunciation: /ɛər/) is given to the atmospheric gases used in breathing and photosynthesis. By volume, dry air contains 78.09% nitrogen, 20.95% oxygen, 0.93% argon, 0.039% carbon dioxide, and small amounts of other gases. Air also contains a variable amount of water vapor, on average around 1% at sea level, and 0.4% over the entire atmosphere. Air content and atmospheric pressure vary at different layers, and air suitable for the survival of terrestrial plants and terrestrial animals is found only in Earth's troposphere and artificial atmospheres.
The atmosphere has a mass of about 5.15×1018 kg, three quarters of which is within about 11 km (6.8 mi; 36,000 ft) of the surface. The atmosphere becomes thinner and thinner with increasing altitude, with no definite boundary between the atmosphere and outer space. The Kármán line, at 100 km (62 mi), or 1.57% of Earth's radius, is often used as the border between the atmosphere and outer space. Atmospheric effects become noticeable during atmospheric reentry of spacecraft at an altitude of around 120 km (75 mi). Several layers can be distinguished in the atmosphere, based on characteristics such as temperature and composition.
An international airport is an airport that offers customs and immigration facilities for passengers travelling between countries. International airports are typically larger than domestic airports and often feature longer runways and facilities to accommodate the heavier aircraft commonly used for international and intercontinental travel. International airports often also host domestic flights. Some, such as Frankfurt Airport in Germany are very large; others such as Fa'a'ā International Airport in Tahiti, are quite small.
Buildings, operations and management have become increasingly sophisticated since the mid 20th century, when international airports began to provide infrastructure for international civilian flights. Detailed technical standards have been developed to ensure safety and common coding systems implemented to provide global consistency. The physical structures that serve millions of individual passengers and flights are among the most complex and interconnected in the world. By the second decade of the 21st century, there were over 1,200 international airports and almost two billion international passengers along with 50 million metric tonnes of cargo were passing through them annually.
Two very friendly pilots from Air Macau dropped by our grade 6 classrooms to talk to our students about why they became pilots and what sorts of things a pilot has to do during a work day. We also had time to ask questions. It was a great visit and we all learned so much.
Landing in Macau (Macao, China), Macau International Airport: Macau International Airport (Portuguese: Aeroporto Internacional de Macau), is an international airport in the special administrative region of Macau, situated at the eastern end of Taipa island and neighbouring waters which opened for commercial operations on 9 November 1995. Macau, considered by many to be the Las Vegas of the Far East, is only a short ferry ride away from Hong Kong, China. When we decided to visit we thought we'd spend most of our time checking out casino; however, what we discovered was a city with a unique colonial history (Portuguese) and some of the best street food in all of Asia. A travel guide for visiting the Historic Portuguese Center of Macau. Macau (also spelled Macao) was a colony of Portugal from 1557 from 1999 and has a very interesting mix of Asian and European architectures. The Center of the old city is Senado Square which has a pedestrianized street that leads to the Ruins of St. Paul's Cathedral. Macau derived it's name from the A-Ma Temple, originally built in 1448 and still standing today. Come join us for a day trip from Hong Kong (香港) as we visit Macau covering the best things to do in one day in our Macau Travel Guide (澳門 - 澳门). We started off our day waking up early in Hong Kong to get to the ferry terminal to take a TurboJET ferry to Macao. *Important* remember to take your passport as you're crossing one special administration region in China to another (Hong Kong to Macau) and you'll need to go through immigration on both sides (it doesn't take long). After arriving we took free transportation (provided by the casinos and hotels) to check out the Venetian Casino and Parisian Hotel. Then we were off to Taipa to mostly eat Macau street food and enjoy the old colonial architecture. We then made our way to Senado Square, the ruins of St. Paul's and Forte Monte while m...

Travel video about destination Macau in China. After 466 years, Portugal handed back the city of Macau to China. It is small and museum-like, a fine example of colonial Portugal on the South China Sea. The Fortaleza Do Monte is a typical Portuguese fortified complex strategically located on a hill above the old cathedral in the heart of the city. Its many old canons and mighty fortress walls are reminders of those times when invasion was a constant threat. The old centre of the city is the triangular Largo Do Senado, Senate Square. Its wonderful colonial buildings with their light-colored facades were built at the end of the 19th century and completely renovated in the final decade of the 20th. Macau's largest Buddhist temple, Templo de Kun Iam Tong, dates back 400 years to the Ming Dyn...

Days of yellow saffron.
Nights with purple skies.
Melting in the sunbeams
from my maker's eyes.
Mountain-colored lilac
in the distant haze.
I would like to lie here,
timing all my days
Move past my window,
sunshine is shimmering
jack-o-lanterns glimmering,
giant moths are flickering around.
See, the moon is hiding
underneath the sea.
Pretty soon he'll venture
to take a look at me.
So I humbly stand here
beneath his golden glow.
Doesn't he remind me
of somebody I know?
I must be leaving,
back to reality.
Don't you just pity me?
I could so easily stay here.
