A storm is any disturbed state of an environment or astronomical body's atmosphere especially affecting its surface, and strongly implying severe weather. It may be marked by significant disruptions to normal conditions such as strong wind, hail, thunder and lightning (a thunderstorm), heavy precipitation (snowstorm, rainstorm), heavy freezing rain (ice storm), strong winds (tropical cyclone, windstorm), or wind transporting some substance through the atmosphere as in a dust storm, blizzard, sandstorm, etc.
Storms generally lead to negative impacts on lives and property such as storm surge, heavy rain or snow (causing flooding or road impassibility), lightning, wildfires, and vertical wind shear; however, systems with significant rainfall can alleviate drought in places they move through. Heavy snowfall can allow special recreational activities to take place which would not be possible otherwise, such as skiing and snowmobiling.
The English word comes from Proto-Germanic *sturmaz meaning "noise, tumult".

Rain pelts down on the cabin porch in an even rhythm. There's something mesmerizing about nature's sonic symphony. I'm pretty sure this storm is going to last ten hours, so sit back and enjoy. © Relaxing White Noise LLC, 2015. All rights reserved. On a particularly stormy day in New York I decided instead of staying warm and dry inside I would venture out and see what the city was like in the middle of a storm. I found an empty, peaceful moody city. sony rx100 III Music: Dead Battery - Stay https://soundcloud.com/deadbattery
Silent Storms is my fourth consecutive aurora/astro film. In a way Silent Storms shows how the night skies can be during the three seasons we have darkness here in northern arctic Scandinavia; autumn, winter and spring. It was filmed in Norway, Finland and Sweden, primarily around the Tromsø area, Norway. The "storms" referred to, are the geomagnetic storms which takes place in the atmosphere when a strong solar wind hits earth, often followed by a CME. When a geomagnetic storms takes place, it can last for days, with several substorms causing auroras to appear. Although there has been reports of audible auroras, this has yet to be proven scientifically. Shooting through these different seasons raises different challenges, and opportunities. Late august/early september you are still ba...

In December 2013 I traveled to Portugal to film a Surf Video with Camilla Kemp. We had 4 awesome days before the arrival of Xaver, a hurricane that caused havoc in Britain and roughend up the sea at Camilla Kemps favorite surf sites on the Portuguese coast. Despite mixed weather conditions and not so perfect waves, we captured good surf and had tons of fun with Camillas friends and family. Enjoy! Thanks to Camilla, her family, Miguel for additional filming, my brother Oliver for assistance, the whole young surfcrew, Pedro Barbudo and all that I may have forgotten. You´ve been awesome! Song by Tony Anderson: “The Way Home" (Licensed through The Music Bed: https://www.musicbed.com/) Follow me: http://www.mikeolbinski.com / http://www.twitter.com/mikeolbinski / http://www.facebook.com/mikeolbinskiphotography / http://www.instagram.com/mikeolbinski For quite a few years now I've been wanting to do something different with my time-lapse films. I love color. Storms are full of color. The blues, the greens, the warm oranges and reds at sunset. The colors are sometimes what make a simple storm into something extra special. But black and white speaks to my soul. I love it. There is something when you remove the color that lets you truly see the textures, movement and emotion of a storm. And then you hear a song. I had asked my buddy Jay Worsley (https://vimeo.com/jayworsley) ...
On August 4th 2008 powerful storms rolled through Chicago. What you're viewing is in sequential order. It was pretty interesting how the storm had so many stages and different looks to it. After it's all said and done two separate storms made there way through the city. The first had very high winds and torrential rain. The second storm had heavy rain along with lots of thunder and lightning. It was quite a display and pretty scary. Music: Album Leaf - The Light

Can you find a way to open up and find a way to lead ashore?
I know time is on the ground.
Can you hear the angels falling?
Break into the light,
Fall away and break to pieces,
Watch them all burn.
At the break of day, skies open up.
And finally, I'll hear you say
"I know that I will not forget you now".
I know time is on the ground.
I will find a way to open up
And find a way to lead the storms.
