A visit to UNESCO World Heritage site and Hindu place of worhip, Candi Prambanan just outisde of Yogyakarta. Recorded March 12, 2013.
Candi Prambanan adalah bangunan luar biasa cantik yang dibangun di abad ke-10 pada masa pemerintahan dua raja, Rakai Pikatan dan Rakai Balitung. Menjulang setinggi 47 meter (5 meter lebih tinggi dari Candi Borobudur), berdirinya candi ini telah memenuhi keinginan pembuatnya, menunjukkan kejayaan Hindu di tanah Jawa. Candi ini terletak 17 kilometer dari pusat kota Yogyakarta, di tengah area yang kini dibangun taman indah.
Candi Prambanan memiliki 3 candi utama di halaman utama, yaitu Candi Wisnu, Brahma, dan Siwa. Ketiga candi tersebut adalah lambang Trimurti dalam kepercayaan Hindu. Ketiga candi itu menghadap ke timur. Setiap candi utama memiliki satu candi pendamping yang menghadap ke barat, yaitu Nandini untuk Siwa, Angsa untuk Brahma, dan Garuda untuk Wisnu. Selain itu, masih terdapat 2 candi apit, 4 candi kelir, dan 4 candi sudut. Sementara, halaman kedua memiliki 224 candi.
Prambanan juga memiliki relief candi yang memuat kisah Ramayana. Menurut para ahli, relief itu mirip dengan cerita Ramayana yang diturunkan lewat tradisi lisan. Relief lain yang menarik adalah pohon Kalpataru yang dalam agama Hindu dianggap sebagai pohon kehidupan, kelestarian dan keserasian lingkungan. Di Prambanan, relief pohon Kalpataru digambarkan tengah mengapit singa. Keberadaan pohon ini membuat para ahli menganggap bahwa masyarakat abad ke-9 memiliki kearifan dalam mengelola lingkungannya.

HI GUYS !! how are you all doing? On that day I decided to go to 2 different famous tourist spots, Candi Borobudur and Candi Prambanan. As an Indonesian, I can just simply go to those places by arranging my own trip, but me and my sister decided to take a special tour arranged by the local tour & travel agency. It was around 12 hours trip and it was worth going.

Hasil Tugas Akhir Mahasiswa Udinus
Pada zaman dahula kala terdapat dua kerajaan besar yaitu kerajaan prambanan dan kerajaan pengging. Kerajaan prambanan yang damai dan tentram dibawah kepemimpinan raja Prabu Baka. Dan kerajaan pengging yang dipimpin oleh raja yang arogan dan jahat memerintahkan anaknya bernama Bandung Bonsowoso untuk menyerang kerajaan prambanan. Setelah kemenangan dimenangkan oleh Bandung Bondowoso. Bandung bondowoso pun bertemu putri cantik bernama Roro Jonggrang, dengan kecantikannya Bandung Bondowo ingin memperistri Roro Jonggrang. Namun Roro Jonggrang memberikan syarat pada Bandung Bondowoso untuk membuat 1000 candi. Tapi ditengah pembuatan Roro Jonggrang ketahuan berbuat curang, dan akhirnya Roro Jonggrang pun dikutuk menjadi candi karena amarah Bandung Bondowoso.

Prambanan
Candi Prambanan or Candi Rara Jonggrang is a 9th-century Hindu temple compound in Central Java, Indonesia, dedicated to the Trimurti, the expression of God as the Creator (Brahma), the Preserver (Vishnu) and the Destroyer (Shiva). The temple compound is located approximately 17 kilometres (11 mi) northeast of the city of Yogyakarta on the boundary between Central Java and Yogyakarta provinces.
The temple compound, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the largest Hindu temple site in Indonesia, and one of the biggest in Southeast Asia. It is characterized by its tall and pointed architecture, typical of Hindu temple architecture, and by the towering 47-metre-high (154 ft) central building inside a large complex of individual temples. Prambanan attracts many visitors from across the world.
History
Construction
The Prambanan temple is the largest Hindu temple of ancient Java, and the first building was completed in the mid-9th century. It was likely started by Rakai Pikatan as the Hindu Sanjaya Dynasty's answer to the Buddhist Sailendra Dynasty's Borobudur and Sewu temples nearby. Historians suggest that the construction of Prambanan probably was meant to mark the return of the Hindu Sanjaya Dynasty to power in Central Java after almost a century of Buddhist Sailendra Dynasty domination. The construction of this massive Hindu temple signifies that the Medang court had shifted its patronage from Mahayana Buddhism to Shivaist Hinduism.

Roro Jonggrang
The Legend of Rara Jonggrang (alternative spellings: Roro Jonggrang, Loro Jonggrang or Lara Jonggrang) is a Javanese popular legend (folktales) from Central Java telling the story of love and betrayal, the knight and the cursed princess. It also explains the mythical origin of Ratu Boko palace, Sewu temple, and the Durga statue in Prambanan temple compound. The title Rårå (pronounced Roro) is ancient Javanese honorific title to address noble maidens (virgins) or unmarried princesses, thus the name Rara Jonggrang in Javanese means 'Slender Virgin'.
Summary
The legend tells the story about two ancient and neighbouring kingdoms in Java, Pengging and Boko.
Pengging was prosperous, and wisely ruled by its king Prabu Damar Moyo who had a son named Bandung Bondowoso. By contrast, Boko was ruled by a cruel man-eating giant named Prabu Boko, supported by another giant Patih Gupolo. Despite his unpleasant nature, Prabu Boko had a beautiful daughter named Rara Jonggrang.
The story relates that Prabu Boko desired to expand his kingdom, and so began training an army and raising taxes for an invasion of Pengging. His forces launch a surprise attack on Pengging, and the ensuring war causes devastation and famine on both sides. In order to defeat the invader, Prabu Damar Moyo sends his son Bandung Bondowoso to fight Prabu Boko. After a furious battle, Prabu Boko is killed by the prince's supernatural powers. His assistant, the giant Patih Gupolo, leads his armies away from the battlefield in defeat.

Candi Prambanan adalah bangunan luar biasa cantik yang dibangun di abad ke-10 pada masa pemerintahan dua raja, Rakai Pikatan dan Rakai Balitung. Menjulang setin...
Candi Prambanan adalah bangunan luar biasa cantik yang dibangun di abad ke-10 pada masa pemerintahan dua raja, Rakai Pikatan dan Rakai Balitung. Menjulang setinggi 47 meter (5 meter lebih tinggi dari Candi Borobudur), berdirinya candi ini telah memenuhi keinginan pembuatnya, menunjukkan kejayaan Hindu di tanah Jawa. Candi ini terletak 17 kilometer dari pusat kota Yogyakarta, di tengah area yang kini dibangun taman indah.
Candi Prambanan memiliki 3 candi utama di halaman utama, yaitu Candi Wisnu, Brahma, dan Siwa. Ketiga candi tersebut adalah lambang Trimurti dalam kepercayaan Hindu. Ketiga candi itu menghadap ke timur. Setiap candi utama memiliki satu candi pendamping yang menghadap ke barat, yaitu Nandini untuk Siwa, Angsa untuk Brahma, dan Garuda untuk Wisnu. Selain itu, masih terdapat 2 candi apit, 4 candi kelir, dan 4 candi sudut. Sementara, halaman kedua memiliki 224 candi.
Prambanan juga memiliki relief candi yang memuat kisah Ramayana. Menurut para ahli, relief itu mirip dengan cerita Ramayana yang diturunkan lewat tradisi lisan. Relief lain yang menarik adalah pohon Kalpataru yang dalam agama Hindu dianggap sebagai pohon kehidupan, kelestarian dan keserasian lingkungan. Di Prambanan, relief pohon Kalpataru digambarkan tengah mengapit singa. Keberadaan pohon ini membuat para ahli menganggap bahwa masyarakat abad ke-9 memiliki kearifan dalam mengelola lingkungannya.

HI GUYS !! how are you all doing? On that day I decided to go to 2 different famous tourist spots, Candi Borobudur and Candi Prambanan. As an Indonesian, I can just simply go to those places by arranging my own trip, but me and my sister decided to take a special tour arranged by the local tour & travel agency. It was around 12 hours trip and it was worth going.

Pada zaman dahula kala terdapat dua kerajaan besar yaitu kerajaan prambanan dan kerajaan pengging. Kerajaan prambanan yang damai dan tentram dibawah kepemimpinan raja Prabu Baka. Dan kerajaan pengging yang dipimpin oleh raja yang arogan dan jahat memerintahkan anaknya bernama Bandung Bonsowoso untuk menyerang kerajaan prambanan. Setelah kemenangan dimenangkan oleh Bandung Bondowoso. Bandung bondowoso pun bertemu putri cantik bernama Roro Jonggrang, dengan kecantikannya Bandung Bondowo ingin memperistri Roro Jonggrang. Namun Roro Jonggrang memberikan syarat pada Bandung Bondowoso untuk membuat 1000 candi. Tapi ditengah pembuatan Roro Jonggrang ketahuan berbuat curang, dan akhirnya Roro Jonggrang pun dikutuk menjadi candi karena amarah Bandung Bondowoso.

It is built during the 9th century for Trimurti as an expression that God is the Creator (Brahma), Preserver (Vishnu) and also the Destroyer (Shiva). It is one of the Indonesia UNESCO World Heritage Site, being one of the largest Hindu temple architecture in Southeast Asia.
3. 9th-century Borobudur temple is an Indonesia UNESCO Heritage site and one of the largest Buddhist temple in the world. It was built in three tiers: a pyramidal base with five concentric square terraces. Around the circular platforms are 72 openwork stupas, each containing a statue of the Buddha.
4. Yogyakarta is the only major city, which still has traditional 'Becak' (rickshaw-style) transport.
5. Yogyakarta has more than just culture though. It is a very lively city and a shopper's delight. The main road, Malioboro Street, is always crowded and famous for its night street food-culture and street vendors. Many tourist shops and hotels are concentrated along this street.
