TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is a global set of conferences run by the private non-profit Sapling Foundation, under the slogan "Ideas Worth Spreading". The emphasis is on the entertainment aspect. TED was founded in 1984 as a one-off event; the annual conference series began in 1990. TED's early emphasis was technology and design, consistent with its Silicon Valley origins, but it has since broadened its focus to include talks on many scientific, cultural, and academic topics.
The main TED conference is held annually in Vancouver, Canada, and its companion TEDActive is held in Whistler, British Columbia. Prior to 2014, the two conferences were held in Long Beach and Palm Springs, California, respectively. TED events are also held throughout North America and in Europe and Asia, offering live streaming of the talks. They address a wide range of topics within the research and practice of science and culture, often through storytelling. The speakers are given a maximum of 18 minutes to present their ideas in the most innovative and engaging ways they can. Past speakers include Bill Clinton, Jane Goodall, Al Gore, Gordon Brown, Billy Graham, Richard Dawkins, Richard Stallman, Bill Gates, Bono, Mike Rowe, Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, and many Nobel Prize winners. TED's current curator is the British former computer journalist and magazine publisher Chris Anderson.
TED is an acronym, and may refer to:
Timothy Joseph "Tim" Urban (born May 1, 1989) is an American singer-songwriter and actor who was the seventh place finalist on the ninth season of American Idol. Urban's debut album and EP titled Heart of Me was released on November 8, 2010 through iTunes.
Urban was born in Tacoma, Washington, and is the sixth of ten kids. His family moved to Duncanville, Texas when he was five. He and his siblings were all homeschooled by their mother, and two of his brothers have served in the military. Urban began to sing and learn the guitar when he was thirteen years old. Before auditioning for American Idol, he worked as a hotel and restaurant singer, and had a band. The group played regularly in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Christian music circuit, and also performed at Six Flags Over Texas twice. Urban has pointed to several diverse artists as his musical influences, including John Denver, Jack Johnson, John Mayer, OneRepublic, Jim Croce, James Taylor, Third Day, Michael Bublé, Coldplay, and Matt Nathanson.

She also led Fusion's coverage of the anniversary of the earthquake in Haiti; the protests in New York and Ferguson, MO; the youth movement in Hong Kong; the disappearance of 43 students in Mexico; President Obama's executive order on immigration; the policy shift with Cuba, and the death of South Africa's Nelson Mandela. Atencio's coverage of the 2014 student protests in Venezuela aired on ABC's World News with David Muir
Atencio has a B.S. in Communications from the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in Caracas, where she was also part of the student movement that emerged after Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez shut down Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV), the oldest television station in the country. You're not at your best when you're stressed. In fact, your brain has evolved over millennia to release cortisol in stressful situations, inhibiting rational, logical thinking but potentially helping you survive, say, being attacked by a lion. Neuroscientist Daniel Levitin thinks there's a way to avoid making critical mistakes in stressful situations, when your thinking becomes clouded — the pre-mortem. "We all are going to fail now and then," he says. "The idea is to think ahead to what those failures might be." When your job hinges on how well you talk to people, you learn a lot about how to have conversations — and that most of us don't converse very well. Celeste Headlee has worked as a radio host for decades, and she knows the ingredients of a great conversation: Honesty, brevity, clarity and a healthy amount of listening. In this insightful talk, she shares 10 useful rules for having better conversations. "Go out, talk to people, listen to people," she says. "And, most importantly, be prepared to be amazed." Cameron Russell admits she won "a genetic lottery": she's tall, pretty and an underwear model. But don't judge her by her looks. In this fearless talk, she takes a wry look at the industry that had her looking highly seductive at barely 16-years-old. (Filmed at TEDxMidAtlantic.) Peter Weyland has been a magnet for controversy since he announced his intent to build the first convincingly humanoid robotic system by the end of the decade. Whether challenging the ethical boundaries of medicine with nanotechnology or going toe to toe with the Vatican itself on the issue of gene-therapy sterilization, Sir Peter prides himself on his motto, “If we can, we must.” After a three year media blackout, Weyland has finally emerged to reveal where he’s heading next. Wherever that may be, we will most certainly want to follow. Conceived and designed by Ridley Scott and Damon Lindelof and directed by Luke Scott.Cinematography by Mark Patten.
With 50 million views since we started posting video two years ago, TEDTalks have become a powerful cultural force. To celebrate this milestone, we're releasing a never-before-seen list: the Top 10 TEDTalks of all time, as of June 2008. With speakers like neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor and global health expert Hans Rosling, the list proves one of the compelling ideas behind TEDTalks: that an unknown speaker with a powerful idea can reach -- and move -- a global audience through the power of quality web video.
Top 10 TEDTalks of all time 1. Jill Bolte Taylor: "My stroke of insight" 2. Jeff Han: "Touchscreen demo foreshadows the iPhone" 3. David Gallo: "Underwater astonishments" 4. Blaise Aguera y Arcas: "Jaw-dropping Photosynth demo" 5. Arthur Benjamin: "Lightning calculation and other 'Mathemagic'" 6. Sir Ken Robinson: "Do schools kill creativity?" 7. Hans Rosling: "The best stats you've ever seen" 8. Tony Robbins: "Why we do what we do, and how we can do it better" 9. Al Gore: "15 ways to avert a climate crisis" 10. Johnny Lee: "Creating tech marvels out of a $40 Wii Remote" (as of June 2008)
"Different kinds of particles are a different color," explains climate scientist, Gavin Schmidt. "The easiest to see are the reddy-orange particles; those are dust and you can see them streaming them off the Sahara," Also worth noting: white particles (pollution from burning coal and volcanoes); red dots (fires over a particular period); and blue color (seasalt being whipped up into air by the wind). Why should we care about any of this? "All of these particles in the air also affect the climate," Schmidt says. Bringing together these disparate data in order to see how they all work together allows scientists to consider different future scenarios — and then plan for them.
TEDx refers to independently organized TED events around the world. There were over one thousand in the first year. Here, I explain how we shoot Big TED to a room full of TEDx organizers. It’s a bit dated but still relevant. ...visit http://www.wishnow.com for more...

Phil Plait's ted talk on moving asteroids on a collision course with earth.
Look into my face now
Stare into my eyes
Hellfire in my veins
in my veins
in my veins
in my vein, yeah.
I can see through your eyes,
Its no disguise to me,
I can see through the lies,
No one can make a fool of me.
Drowning in your lonliness,
Want to bring me down with you.
No one buys your innocence,
Gonna' break your walls in two.
Well in two,
Well in two.
No one buys it,
No one wanted to,
With you,
You,
Fuck you.
Dig your grave for two.
Walk my way,
Get out of my way.
Well I wanted you,
I saw right through ya.
Well I'm your man,
You'll understand,
You'll pay the price,
To live in a-paradise.
Look into my face now,
Stare into my eyes.
Hellfire in my veins,
In my veins,
In my veins,
In my vein yeah.
I can see through your eyes,
Well its no disguise to me.
I can see through the lies,
No one can make a fool of me.
I'm drowning in your lonliness,
Want to bring me down with you.
