The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, the March on Washington, or The Great March on Washington as styled in a sound recording released after the event, was one of the largest political rallies for human rights in United States history and called for civil and economic rights for African Americans. It took place in Washington, D.C..Thousands of Americans headed to Washington on Tuesday August 27, 1963. On Wednesday, August 28, 1963. Martin Luther King, Jr., standing in front of the Lincoln Memorial, delivered his historic "I Have a Dream" speech in which he called for an end to racism.
The march was organized by a group of civil rights, labor, and religious organizations, under the theme "jobs, and freedom". Estimates of the number of participants varied from 200,000 to 300,000; it is widely accepted that approximately 250,000 people participated in the march. Observers estimated that 75–80% of the marchers were black.
The march is credited with helping to pass the Civil Rights Act (1964) and preceded the Selma Voting Rights Movement which led to the passage of the Voting Rights Act (1965).
Perez is a surname with at least two distinct origins: One, written as Pérez, is a Spanish surname meaning "son of Pero, Pedro, or Peter." In Portuguese the surname is written with a final "s" instead of "z" and without the accent.
The other is a Hebrew surname Perez or Peretz, derived from Perez (son of Judah) (Hebrew פרץ cf. Genesis 38:29), meaning to "breach or burst forth." The Hebrew name Perez is transliterated Farés in the Spanish Christian Bible.
The name rarely occurs as a first name.
In Castilian Spanish, the name is pronounced [ˈpeɾeθ] and in Latin America, [ˈpeɾes]. The accent or stress is placed on the second-to-last syllable as with all Spanish patronymic surnames.
In Modern Hebrew: [ˈpeʁets]. EL CABALLO
Talk About is a phrase shared in the titles several forms of media:
Carmen (French pronunciation: [kaʁmɛn]; Spanish: [ˈkarmen]) is an opera in four acts by the French composer Georges Bizet. The libretto was written by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy, based on a novella of the same title by Prosper Mérimée. The opera was first performed at the Opéra-Comique in Paris, on 3 March 1875, and was not well received, largely due to its breaking of convention and controversial main characters, which shocked and scandalized its first audiences. Bizet died suddenly after the 33rd performance, and therefore was unaware of its outstanding success in Vienna later that year, or that it would win enduring international acclaim within the next ten years. Carmen has since become one of the most popular and frequently-performed operas in the classical canon; the "Habanera" from act 1 and the "Toreador Song" from act 2 are among the best known of all operatic arias.
The opera, written in the genre of opéra comique with musical numbers separated by dialogue, is set in southern Spain, and tells the story of the downfall of Don José, a naïve soldier who is seduced by the wiles of the fiery gypsy, Carmen. José abandons his childhood sweetheart and deserts from his military duties, yet loses Carmen's love to the glamorous toreador Escamillo, after which José kills her in a jealous rage. The depictions of proletarian life, immorality and lawlessness, and the tragic death of the main character on stage, broke new ground in French opera and were highly controversial.

In the latest episode of Paying Attention, Women’s March Co-Chair Carmen Perez told us that the message of the historic demonstration was simple: “women’s rights are human rights.” Perez said demonstrators were able to show President Donald Trump “on his first day that we were not going to go anywhere, that we were actually united,” Perez said. Now, nearly one month after inauguration day, Perez talked to ATTN: about how the organizers’ plan to harness the enthusiasm generated by the march by creating a message that is bigger than just opposing Trump. “It’s the reason why the Women’s March on Washington was not anti-Trump, it was for something,” Perez said. ”So now we’re trying to shift the conversation of feminism, where we are for reproductive justice rights, we are wanting people ...
On Saturday, another crowd will gather on the National Mall -- not to celebrate, but to advocate. William Brangham talks with Bob Bland and Carmen Perez, co-chairs of the Women's March On Washington, about the organization’s mission to protect women’s rights, creating a safe space for difficult conversations on sensitive issues and remembering that “we’re all people first.”
