Homies are a series of two-inch plastic collectible figurines representing various Chicano Mexican American characters. The line of toys was created by David Gonzales and based on a comic strip that Gonzales created featuring a cast of characters from his youth. Introduced in 1998, Homies were initially sold in supermarket vending machines. Homies have become a highly collectible item among fans, and have spawned many imitation toys.
Gonzales began drawing comics while he was in high school. His amateur comic strip was called The Adventures of Chico Loco, and the characters were based on "barrio guys," as Gonzales grew up on the tough streets of a poverty-ridden Mexican-American neighborhood. The main character, based on Gonzales himself, was called "Hollywood." The strip, which later changed its title to The Adventures of Hollywood, was picked up by Lowrider magazine and published monthly. More and more barrio characters from Gonzales' experiences were introduced to the public through the Hollywood strip — these became "Homies." (The word "homie" [from "homeboy"] is an African-American slang from the southern United States, meaning someone from "back home". In use in the West Coast Latino community for decades, the word "homie" has crossed over into the mainstream culture.)
My Homies is the fifth studio album by American rapper Scarface. The album was released March 3, 1998, by Rap-A-Lot Records. The album features production by Mike Dean, Mr. Lee, N.O. Joe, Scarface and Tone Capone. It peaked at number 1 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and at number 4 on the Billboard 200 and was certified Platinum by the RIAA on April 6, 1998. The album features guest performances by 2Pac, Master P, Ice Cube, Devin the Dude, B-Legit, UGK, Too Short, Do or Die and Willie D. Scarface appears solo on two songs, performs with others on twelve, and does not contribute vocals on sixteen, which was a similar format by Dr. Dre in his 1992 album The Chronic where he didn't appear in three tracks himself. A sequel to the album, My Homies Part 2, was released on March 7, 2006.
Along with singles, music videos were produced for the songs: "Homies & Thuggs", featuring 2Pac and Master P and "Sex Faces", featuring Too Short, Tela and Devin the Dude. In the original of "Homies & Thuggs", 2Pac's verse was later added. The song, "Sleepin' In My Nikes", was originally released on the Seagram album, Souls on Ice. The solo track, "Boo Boo'n", was later re-released on the Devin the Dude album, The Dude.

Originally known as JJ Boyz and Inner City Posse, the group introduced supernatural- and horror-themed lyrics as a means of distinguishing itself stylistically. The duo founded the independent record label Psychopathic Records with Alex Abbiss as manager, and produced and starred in the feature films Big Money Hustlas and Big Money Rustlas. They formed their own professional wrestling federation, Juggalo Championship Wrestling, and later collaborated with many well-known hip hop and rock musicians. We traveled to New York City's forgotten borough, Staten Island, to find out how Sugarman created a small vending empire—and how he subsequently lost it—one quarter at a time. In 1996 Bradley Ellison, a.k.a. Sugarman, started Sugar Daddies vending company in Staten Island. He placed thousands of machines throughout New York City in pizza parlors, supermarkets, and corner shops. Due largely in part to a cash economy, his business flourished, shaking down every neighborhood kid for their milk money in exchange for a sticky hand, bouncy ball, or a handful of candies. In 2004, he finally made it big with the "Homies" series (arguably the most popular vending toy of all time), grossing over $1 million in sales. [Verse 1: ODM]
Well you ask me what the definition of a homie is
A friend till the end, but some start when you're kids
Little traviesos that are always into something
Doing something bad acting like they did nothing
Well here's a little story about a homie named frankie
Had another little homie that was down for hanky panky
Sort of like Spanky and Alfalfa, Little Rascals
Doing what they doing getting away without a hassle
Like going to the schoolyard for your late passes to class
Cutting in lunch lines leaving other students last
And strolling to the movies to see a rated "R"
When mom's dropped them off it's where E.T. would be the star
Stealing was an issue that just could not be ignored
Taking tapes and 45's from the local record store
Being good kids to them was nothing but bologna
Cause this is what you do when it's you and your homies
[Chorus]
[Verse 2: DTTX]
My situation with my homies wasn't all fun
sometimes bad sometimes sad, but had to have one
I wouldn't change it for a thing cause it's priceless
Your homies are your down, yup! Can I get a righteous
As kids, we saw and we did what most kids never did
Took my first swig chilling at my homies crib
Searching for ways, so that we could make presidents
Life was hard beign a product of my residence
But me beign the youngest, I had to stay strong
Mom's was my teacher cause Pop's was already gone
Hung out in the streets doing my own thing
Living in the barrio, but I never gangbanged
Coming up was a must, growing up with who I grew up
I found out just who I can trust
Me, Myself, and I not fronting like a phony
I'm true to the game and I'm down with my homies
[Chorus]
[Verse 3: ODM,DTT]
You wanna be my homie well hey I'll tell you something
Hanging with my crew doesn't really mean nothing
Blabbing when I get all toured doing my songs
You gonna want to kick it, well listen up here holmes
It goes way back before you ever knew me
I hung with my friends and not male groupies
Just goes to show everybody where I'm coming from
Hey yo! D' break em off something
[DTTX]
So many people wanna hang now that I'm in the rap game
They say that they're down when they dont even know my name
Well I could say that I have many friends
But a homie is true, through and through until the end
And ain't a damn thing changed
We're still hanging in the hood and doing the same thangs
Cause I ain't one to be a phony
I'm still true to the game and I'm down with my homies
