U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) wrapped up five days of sea trials returning to its homeport at Naval Station Norfolk on July 25.
This was Truman’s first time underway in nearly a year, as the ship underwent a planned incremental availability (PIA), which began last September, .
“Sea trials is a five-day underway that pushes the limits of the ship; a true shakedown,” said Truman’s Executive Officer Capt. Cassidy Norman. “Everything we’ve done for the past year has been building up to this moment. I’m proud to finally have our ship back out on the waterfront.”
Team Truman navigated through the sea trials checklist completing a number of evolutions, including small boat recoveries, testing aqueous film-forming foam sprinkler systems, high-speed turns, catapult testing and a simulated replenishment-at-sea alongside USNS Medgar Evers (T-AKE 13).
Since the shipyard period, Truman Sailors have also overcome testing on their ability to perform in various areas such as damage control, deck seamanship and flight deck operations, which are viable, simulated scenarios that can occur while at sea.
“This is our first time back out on the Atlantic since we pulled in to start the maintenance period a little under a year ago,” said Logistics Specialist 1st Class Kurt C. Trammell II. “We completed more than 300 hours of shipboard evolutions during the five days at sea. Our ship and her crew were pushed to their limits while we were out there, but we came out on top.”

USS Zumwalt (DDG-1000) is a guided missile destroyer of the United States Navy. She is the lead ship of the Zumwalt class. Zumwalt has stealth capabilities, having a radar cross-section akin to a fishing boat despite her large size. It is designed as multi-mission ship with a focus on land attack.

Blue Angels #1 and #4 (flying the #2 jet) perform circle and arrival maneuvers on Thursday evening at EAA AirVenture airshow in Oshkosh, WI. The diamond was supposed to do this during the daily airshow, but the aircraft had a small mishap while taxiing out and had to cancel it. They were able to reschedule for 8pm, after the airport is normally closed, and complete the procedure just before it go too dark.

Produced in 1945 by Jam Handy, "The Naval Gun At Iwo Jima" is a sister film to "The Naval Gun at Okinawa". This film details the important role Navy guns played in assaulting Japanese forces that were dug into caves on the island. It also shows the close support of Marines during the long assault. Naval gunfire at Iwo Jima was critical, the film explains, due to the fact that low visibility limited air operations. The film details the role played by battleships, cruisers, destroyers, destroyer escorts, and auxiliary gunboats. Shows tactics employed in exposing Japanese defenses, for example how gunboats were used to draw fire from Japanese gun batteries, exposing them so that the 16-inch guns on the battleships could used to destroy the shore positions.
At 4:22, U.S. Navy Underwater Demolition Teams or UDTs are seen deploying into the waters off Iwo Jima, so that they can locate and destroy enemy mines obstructing the beaches. At 5:42, the swimmers are retrieved from their reconnaissance operations.
At 6:44, the plan of attack against enemy block houses and gun emplacements at D-Day minus one is shown, with USS Idaho taking the right flank and USS Tennessee hitting the left flank of Mt. Suribachi. USS New York and USS Nevada (salvaged at Pearl Harbor) bombarded the beach landing areas for 12 hours. This set up the landing of February 19th, which is shown at 8:40. Gunfire at this point supported the landings and was backed up by air strikes. Assault waves were preceded by gunboats firing rockets (9:00) onto the beach. At 9:48, the attack plan at 15 minutes before H-hour is shown, with intense fire being laid down onto the beach ahead of the Marines. At 10:55, shots of enemy defenses that were destroyed during the landing are seen, including casemates, block houses, anti-aircraft guns, etc. According to the narrator, almost of these could only have been destroyed by naval gunfire.

United States Navy
The United States Navy (USN) is the naval warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces and one of the seven uniformed services of the United States. The U.S. Navy is the largest, most capable navy in the world, with the highest combined battle fleet tonnage. The U.S. Navy has the world's largest aircraft carrier fleet, with ten in service, two in the reserve fleet, and three new carriers under construction. The service has 328,194 personnel on active duty and 101,199 in the Navy Reserve. It has 272 deployable combat vessels and more than 3,700 aircraft in active service as of February 2016.
The U.S. Navy traces its origins to the Continental Navy, which was established during the American Revolutionary War and was essentially disbanded as a separate entity shortly thereafter. It played a major role in the American Civil War by blockading the Confederacy and seizing control of its rivers. It played the central role in the World War II defeat of Japan. The 21st century U.S. Navy maintains a sizable global presence, deploying in such areas as East Asia, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East. It is a blue-water navy with the ability to project force onto the littoral regions of the world, engage in forward areas during peacetime, and rapidly respond to regional crises, making it an active player in U.S. foreign and defense policy.

Navy
A navy or maritime force is a fleet of waterborne military vessels (watercraft) and its associated naval aviation, both sea-based and land-based. It is the branch of a nation's armed forces principally designated for naval and amphibious warfare; namely, lake-borne, riverine, littoral, or ocean-borne combat operations and related functions. It includes anything conducted by surface ships, amphibious ships, submarines, and seaborne aviation, as well as ancillary support, communications, training, and other fields; recent developments have included space-related operations. The strategic offensive role of a navy is projection of force into areas beyond a country's shores (for example, to protect sea-lanes, ferry troops, or attack other navies, ports, or shore installations). The strategic defensive purpose of a navy is to frustrate seaborne projection-of-force by enemies. The strategic task of the navy also may incorporate nuclear deterrence by use of Submarine-launched ballistic missiles. Naval operations can be broadly divided between riverine and littoral applications (brown-water navy), open-ocean applications (blue-water navy), and something in between (green-water navy), although these distinctions are more about strategic scope than tactical or operational division.

U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) wrapped up five days of sea trials returning to its homeport at Naval Station Norfolk on July 25.
This was Truman’s first time underway in nearly a year, as the ship underwent a planned incremental availability (PIA), which began last September, .
“Sea trials is a five-day underway that pushes the limits of the ship; a true shakedown,” said Truman’s Executive Officer Capt. Cassidy Norman. “Everything we’ve done for the past year has been building up to this moment. I’m proud to finally have our ship back out on the waterfront.”
Team Truman navigated through the sea trials checklist completing a number of evolutions, including small boat recoveries, testing aqueous film-forming foam sprinkler systems, high-speed turns, catapult testing and a simulated replenishment-at-sea alongside USNS Medgar Evers (T-AKE 13).
Since the shipyard period, Truman Sailors have also overcome testing on their ability to perform in various areas such as damage control, deck seamanship and flight deck operations, which are viable, simulated scenarios that can occur while at sea.
“This is our first time back out on the Atlantic since we pulled in to start the maintenance period a little under a year ago,” said Logistics Specialist 1st Class Kurt C. Trammell II. “We completed more than 300 hours of shipboard evolutions during the five days at sea. Our ship and her crew were pushed to their limits while we were out there, but we came out on top.”

The diamond was supposed to do this during the daily airshow, but the aircraft had a small mishap while taxiing out and had to cancel it. They were able to reschedule for 8pm, after the airport is normally closed, and complete the procedure just before it go too dark.

Produced in 1945 by Jam Handy, "The Naval Gun At Iwo Jima" is a sister film to "The Naval Gun at Okinawa". This film details the important role Navy guns played in assaulting Japanese forces that were dug into caves on the island. It also shows the close support of Marines during the long assault. Naval gunfire at Iwo Jima was critical, the film explains, due to the fact that low visibility limited air operations. The film details the role played by battleships, cruisers, destroyers, destroyer escorts, and auxiliary gunboats. Shows tactics employed in exposing Japanese defenses, for example how gunboats were used to draw fire from Japanese gun batteries, exposing them so that the 16-inch guns on the battleships could used to destroy the shore positions.
At 4:22, U.S. Navy Underwater Demolition Teams or UDTs are seen deploying into the waters off Iwo Jima, so that they can locate and destroy enemy mines obstructing the beaches. At 5:42, the swimmers are retrieved from their reconnaissance operations.
At 6:44, the plan of attack against enemy block houses and gun emplacements at D-Day minus one is shown, with USS Idaho taking the right flank and USS Tennessee hitting the left flank of Mt. Suribachi. USS New York and USS Nevada (salvaged at Pearl Harbor) bombarded the beach landing areas for 12 hours. This set up the landing of February 19th, which is shown at 8:40. Gunfire at this point supported the landings and was backed up by air strikes. Assault waves were preceded by gunboats firing rockets (9:00) onto the beach. At 9:48, the attack plan at 15 minutes before H-hour is shown, with intense fire being laid down onto the beach ahead of the Marines. At 10:55, shots of enemy defenses that were destroyed during the landing are seen, including casemates, block houses, anti-aircraft guns, etc. According to the narrator, almost of these could only have been destroyed by naval gunfire.

Team Truman navigated through the sea trials checklist completing a number of evolutions, including small boat recoveries, testing aqueous film-forming foam sprinkler systems, high-speed turns, catapult testing and a simulated replenishment-at-sea alongside USNS Medgar Evers (T-AKE 13).
Since the shipyard period, Truman Sailors have also overcome testing on their ability to perform in various areas such as damage control, deck seamanship and flight deck operations, which are viable, simulated scenarios that can occur while at sea.

This film details the important role Navy guns played in assaulting Japanese forces that were dug into caves on the island. It also shows the close support of Marines during the long assault. Naval gunfire at Iwo Jima was critical, the film explains, due to the fact that low visibility limited air operations. The film details the role played by battleships, cruisers, destroyers, destroyer escorts, and auxiliary gunboats. Shows tactics employed in exposing Japanese defenses, for example how gunboats were used to draw fire from Japanese gun batteries, exposing them so that the 16-inch guns on the battleships could used to destroy the shore positions.
At 4:22, U.S. Navy Underwater Demolition Teams or UDTs are seen deploying into the waters off Iwo Jima, so that they can locate and destroy enemy mines obstructing the beaches. At 5:42, the swimmers are retrieved from their reconnaissance operations.
At 6:44, the plan of attack against enemy block houses and gun emplacements at D-Day minus one is shown, with USS Idaho taking the right flank and USS Tennessee hitting the left flank of Mt. Suribachi. USS New York and USS Nevada (salvaged at Pearl Harbor) bombarded the beach landing areas for 12 hours. This set up the landing of February 19th, which is shown at 8:40. Gunfire at this point supported the landings and was backed up by air strikes. Assault waves were preceded by gunboats firing rockets (9:00) onto the beach. At 9:48, the attack plan at 15 minutes before H-hour is shown, with intense fire being laid down onto the beach ahead of the Marines. At 10:55, shots of enemy defenses that were destroyed during the landing are seen, including casemates, block houses, anti-aircraft guns, etc. According to the narrator, almost of these could only have been destroyed by naval gunfire.

The Future of Undersea Warfare, The Virginia class, also known as the SSN-774 class, is a class of nuclear-powered fast attack #submarines (hull classification symbol SSN) in service with the United States Navy. The submarines are designed for a broad spectrum of open-ocean and littoral (shallow coastal water) missions. They were conceived as a less expensive alternative to the Seawolf-class attack submarines, designed during the Cold War era. They are replacing older Los Angeles-class submarines, many of which have already been decommissioned. Virginia-class submarines will be acquired through 2043, and are expected to remain in service past 2060. Based on recent updates to the designs, some of the Virginia-class submarines are expected to still be in service in 2070.
