The Tōhoku region (東北地方, Tōhoku-chihō), (literally, "Northeast Region") consists of the northeastern portion of Honshu, the largest island of Japan. This traditional region consists of six prefectures (ken): Akita, Aomori, Fukushima, Iwate, Miyagi and Yamagata.
Tōhoku retains a reputation as a remote, scenic region with a harsh climate. In the 20th century, tourism became a major industry in the Tōhoku region.
The area was historically known as the Michinoku region. a term first recorded in Hitachi-no-kuni Fudoki (常陸国風土記) (654). There is some variation in modern usage of the term "Michinoku".
Tōhoku's initial historical settlement occurred between the seventh and ninth centuries, well after Japanese civilization and culture had become firmly established in central and southwestern Japan. The last stronghold of the indigenous Emishi on Honshu and the site of many battles, the region has maintained a degree of autonomy from Kyoto at various times throughout history.
The haiku poet Matsuo Bashō wrote Oku no Hosomichi (The Narrow Road to the Deep North) during his travels through Tōhoku.
A hot spring is a spring produced by the emergence of geothermally heated groundwater that rises from the Earth's crust. There are geothermal hot springs in many locations all over the crust of the earth. While some of these springs contain water that is the correct temperature for bathing, others are too hot to do so and immersion can result in injury or death.
There is no universally accepted definition of a hot spring. For example, one can find the phrase hot spring defined as any geothermal spring
Ultra-high-definition television (also known as 2160p, UHD-1, Super Hi-Vision, Ultra HD television, UltraHD, UHDTV, or UHD) includes 4K UHD (2160p) and 8K UHD (4320p), which are two digital video formats proposed by NHK Science & Technology Research Laboratories and defined and approved by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The Consumer Electronics Association announced on October 17, 2012, that "Ultra High Definition", or "Ultra HD", would be used for displays that have an aspect ratio of 16:9 and at least one digital input capable of carrying and presenting native video at a minimum resolution of 3840×2160 pixels.
Ultra-high-definition television is also known as Ultra HD, UHD, and UHDTV. In Japan, 8K UHDTV will be known as Super Hi-Vision since Hi-Vision was the term used in Japan for HDTV. In the consumer electronics market companies had previously only used the term 4K at the 2012 CES but that had changed to Ultra HD during the 2013 CES. The Ultra HD term is an umbrella term that was selected by the Consumer Electronics Association after extensive consumer research.
A dragon is a legendary creature, typically with serpentine or reptilian traits, that features in the myths of many cultures. There are two distinct cultural traditions of dragons: the European dragon, derived from European folk traditions and ultimately related to Greek and Middle Eastern mythologies, and the Chinese dragon, with counterparts in Japan (namely the Japanese dragon), Korea and other East Asian countries.
The two traditions may have evolved separately, but have influenced each other to a certain extent, particularly with the cross-cultural contact of recent centuries. The English word dragon derives from Greek δράκων (drákōn), "dragon, serpent of huge size, water-snake".
The word dragon entered the English language in the early 13th century from Old French dragon, which in turn comes from Latin draconem (nominative draco) meaning "huge serpent, dragon", from the Greek word δράκων, drakon (genitive drakontos, δράκοντος) "serpent, giant seafish". The Greek and Latin term referred to any great serpent, not necessarily mythological, and this usage was also current in English up to the 18th century.
A prefecture (from the Latin Praefectura) is an administrative jurisdiction or subdivision in any of various countries and within some international church structures, and in antiquity a Roman district governed by an appointed prefect.
Prefecture most commonly refers to a self-governing body or area since the tetrarchy when Emperor Diocletian divided the Roman Empire into four districts (each divided into dioceses, grouped under a Vicarius (a number of Roman provinces, listed under that article), although he maintained two pretorian prefectures as an administrative level above the also surviving dioceses (a few of which were split).
As canon law is strongly inspired by Roman law, it is not surprising that the Catholic Church has several offices under a prefect. That term occurs also in otherwise styled offices, such as the head of a congregation or department of the Roman Curia. Various ecclesiastical areas, too small for a diocese, are termed prefects.

The Tohoku region music. Plays during the strategy phases. I upped the track's volume a bit, as it's normally a little quiet. I think it turned out quite well, and I made no further adjustments. Requested by RedTigerMike. Enjoy! P.s to all: If you're listening to this, would you mind commenting on the quality? Good (enough)? Many thanks in advance.
Something else unique is the experience of wearing Samurai or princess costumes and completely getting into traditional culture. CNN asked me to explore a beautiful, rural region of Japan and I couldn't have ran faster to the airplane. Japan has been on my bucket list forever and a week of exploring the country's Northern region of Tohoku was even more life-changing than I could have expected. We focused on local life and culture, taking in a cherry blossom festival in Aomori, competitively eating Soba noodles at Wanco-Soba, and the samurai houses of "Kakunodate." I hope you get a glimpse into this ancient treasureland of Tohoku and see why it is such a special place in our world.
"Japan Off The Beaten Path" is a new series on my channel, where I show you more of the unknown areas/prefectures in Japan and encourage you to travel and visit areas other than the common places such as Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. I came here during Autumn(end of October), which is the perfect time to come to see the autumn foliage! You can climb mountains, look over beautiful lakes and visit coastal towns. Soak in hot springs and experience the Edo era in the preserved samurai town of Kakunodate. Akita is leading the way in eco-industries. Though the region may seem remote to those in Tokyo and Osaka, Akita embraces diversity and welcomes the world. While you are there don’t forget to try the local ‘Kiritanpo-Nabe’ stew made with rice and ‘jizake’ or locally brewed sake (rice wine). If you are visiting in summer, check out the Kanto Matsuri (竿燈まつり “pole lantern festival”) held every year from August 3rd to the 6th. Find more details on our trip here: Akita Prefe...
