India
India, officially the Republic of India (Bhārat Gaṇarājya), is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by area, the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people, and the most populous democracy in the world. Bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the south-west, and the Bay of Bengal on the south-east, it shares land borders with Pakistan to the west;China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the north-east; and Myanmar (Burma) and Bangladesh to the east. In the Indian Ocean, India is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka and the Maldives; in addition, India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands share a maritime border with Thailand and Indonesia.
Home to the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation and a region of historic trade routes and vast empires, the Indian subcontinent was identified with its commercial and cultural wealth for much of its long history. Four religions—Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism—originated here, whereas Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam arrived in the 1st millennium CE and also shaped the region's diverse culture. Gradually annexed by and brought under the administration of the British East India Company from the early 18th century and administered directly by the United Kingdom after the Indian Rebellion of 1857, India became an independent nation in 1947 after a struggle for independence that was marked by non-violent resistance led by Mahatma Gandhi.

India?
India? is the third studio album by the band Suns of Arqa, recorded and released in 1984 by Rocksteady Records. The album was produced by Suns of Arqa founder Michael Wadada. It is their fourth album overall when including their 1983 live album with Prince Far I, and this is indicated subtly on the spine with the letters "Vol IV". The spine also reads "Such big ears, but still you can't see".
'India?' is a radical departure from the style of the previous two albums Revenge of the Mozabites and Wadada Magic. As the title suggests, this album has a strong Indian feel to its arrangements and instrumentation. It has not been released on CD, however three of the five tracks have found their way onto other Suns of Arqa CD releases.
Track A1 'Give Love' which features Ras Michael appears on the 1991 compilation CD 'Land of a Thousand Churches', and tracks A3/B2 (Kalashree/Vairabi) both appear on the 1992 CD Kokoromochi.
The sleevenotes for this LP include thank-yous to Adrian Sherwood, Style Scott, Gadgi, Martin Hannett, Chris Nagle and Kevin Metcalf.

India (East Syrian ecclesiastical province)
India (Syriac: Beth Hindaye) was an ecclesiastical province of the Church of the East, from the seventh to the sixteenth century. The Malabar Coast of India had long been home to a thriving East Syrian (Nestorian) Christian community, known as the St. Thomas Christians. The community traces its origins to the evangelical activity of Thomas the Apostle in the 1st century. The Indian Christian community were initially part of the metropolitan province of Fars, but were detached from that province in the 7th century, and again in the 8th, and given their own metropolitan bishop.
Due to the distance between India and the seat of the Patriarch of the Church of the East, communication with the church's heartland was often spotty, and the province was frequently without a bishop. As such, the Indian church was largely autonomous in operation, though the authority of the Patriarch was always respected. In the 16th century, the Portuguese arrived in India and tried to bring the community under the authority of the Latin Rite of the Catholic Church. The Portuguese ascendancy was formalised at the Synod of Diamper in 1599, which effectively abolished the historic Nestorian metropolitan province of India. Angamaly, the former seat of the Nestorian metropolitans, was downgraded to a suffragan diocese of the Latin Archdiocese of Goa.

India is the stage name of a pornographic actress, singer and rapper.
She began working as an adult actress in around 1998 and has since appeared in over 200 videos. For five years she was an exclusive contract girl for the production company Video Team, and she has an exclusive sex toy line, manufactured by California Exotic Novelties.
India owns the record company Black Widow Entertainment, and in 2006 she released her debut solo album Role Play. In July 2002 she was profiled on VH1's All Access hip-hop/porn special. In 2004 her vocals featured in the movie Walking Tall, starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli was named as Apostolic Nuncio to India (Present) by Pope Francis on 13 March 2021. The Apostolic Nunciature of India is located in 50-C, Niti Marg, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi.

The Ancient Church of the East distinguished itself from the Assyrian Church of the East in 1964. It is one of the Assyrian churches that claim continuity with the historical Patriarchate of Seleucia-Ctesiphon – the Church of the East, one of the oldest Christian churches in Mesopotamia. The church is headquartered in Baghdad, Iraq. In 1970, Catholicos-Patriarch Addai II Giwargis succeeded Thoma Darmo (1968–1969).
In 2015, while the patriarchate of the Assyrian Church of the East was vacant following the death of Dinkha IV, the Chaldean Catholic Patriarch Louis Raphaël I Sako proposed a "merger" or reunion of his own Chaldean Catholic Church with both the Assyrian Church of the East and the Ancient Church of the East to (re-)create one united "Church of the East" with a single patriarch in full communion with the Pope. The proposal did not go forward, and the Assyrian Church of the East elected a new patriarch of its own.

Christianity is India's third-largest religion after Hinduism and Islam, with approximately 27.8 million followers, constituting 2.3 percent of India's population (2011 census).[2]According to the tradition of Indian Christians, the Christian faith was introduced to India through Thomas the Apostle, who is said to have reached the Malabar Coast (Kerala) in 52 AD.[3][4][5][6] According to another tradition Bartholomew the Apostle is credited with simultaneously introducing Christianity along the Konkan Coast.[7] There is a general scholarly consensus that Christian communities were firmly established in the Malabar Coast (Kerala) of India by the 6th century AD,[8] which were communities who used Syriac liturgies. Starting from European colonisations from 15th century several Western Christian communities like Latin Rite Catholics and Protestants were created in different parts of the country.

Christians in India are members of different church denominations though some are also non-denominational. The state of Kerala is home to the Saint Thomas Christian community, an ancient body of Christians who according to tradition trace their origins to the evangelistic activity of Thomas the Apostle in the 1st century.[6] They are now divided into several different churches and traditions. There are East Syriac Rite denominations: the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church and the Chaldean Syrian Church. There are West Syriac Rite denominations: the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church , the Mar Thoma Syrian Church, the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, and the Malabar Independent Syrian Church. Saint Thomas Anglicans are members of the Church of South India (C.S.I.).[9][10][11] Roman Rite Catholicism was introduced to India by the Portuguese, Italian Capuchins and Irish Jesuits from the 16th century onwards, under the influence of its allied empires, resulting in the establishment of communities such as the Bettiah Christians of Bihar.[12][13] Many Christian schools, hospitals and primary care centres originated through the Roman Catholic missions brought by the trade of these countries.
The Church of North India and Church of South India are united Protestant Churches that were established as a result of evangelism and ecumenism by Anglicans, Methodists, and other Protestants in India who flourished in colonial India.[14] The CNI and CSI hold to a mixed polity with episcopal, presbyterian and congregational elements,[15][16][17] and are ecclesiastical provinces of the Anglican Communion, as well as members of the World Methodist Council and World Communion of Reformed Churches.[18][19][20] Further Protestantism was later spread to India by the efforts of North American, British, German, and independent non-denominational missionaries who preached the gospel to evangelise Indians; many Christian missionaries suffered from militant persecution and were martyred. Major denominations include non-Conformist reformed churches like Pentecostals, Baptists, Evangelicals, Methodist, Presbyterians, Mennonites, and Lutherans. There is also rising presence of Charismatic and Neo-Charismatic Movements across the nation.
During the 18th century, Protestant Christian missionaries campaigned towards the social reforms, notably by campaigning for the abolition of Sati (ritual self-immolation of widows), suppressing human sacrifices (particularly by tribals and Thuggees), taking measures in passing the Prevention Act, 1870 against female infanticide, and revolutionized educational system[21] Under the British Indian Empire, they had a key influence in drafting certain aspects of the Indian penal code by imposing specific Biblical prohibitions with offences related to marriages, adultery (which was at variance with Indian polygamous society of that time), as well as the controversial sodomy laws. They produced translations of the Bible in Indian languages including Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Hindi-Urdu etc.[22] The first known translation of Christian Scripture in an Indian language was done to Konkani in 1667 AD by Ignacio Arcamone, an Italian Jesuit.[23][24][25][26]

India, officially the Republic of India (Bhārat Gaṇarājya), is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by area, the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people, and the most populous democracy in the world. In the Indian Ocean, India is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka and the Maldives; in addition, India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands share a maritime border with Thailand and Indonesia.
Home to the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation and a region of historic trade routes and vast empires, the Indian subcontinent was identified with its commercial and cultural wealth for much of its long history. Four religions—Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism—originated here, whereas Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam arrived in the 1st millennium CE and also shaped the region's diverse culture. Gradually annexed by and brought under the administration of the British East India Company from the early 18th century and administered directly by the United Kingdom after the Indian Rebellion of 1857, India became an independent nation in 1947 after a struggle for independence that was marked by non-violent resistance led by Mahatma Gandhi.

The Catholic Church in India is part of the worldwide Catholic Church under the leadership of the Pope and the Curia in Rome.There are over 20 million Catholics in India, representing around 1.55% of the total population, and the Catholic Church is the largest Christian Church in India. There are 10,701 parishes and 174 dioceses in India, organised into 29 provinces. Of these, 132 are of the Latin Catholic Church; 31 are Syro-Malabar Church and 11 are Malankara Syrian Catholic Church dioceses. Despite the small percentage of the Indian population Catholics represent, India has the second-largest Catholic population in Asia after the Philippines.
All Catholic bishops in India, from all Churches, form the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India, which was founded in 1944. The Holy See's representative to the government of India and to the Church in India is the Apostolic Nuncio to India. The diplomatic mission of Holy see to India, similar to an embassy was established as the Apostolic Delegation to the East Indies in 1881. It was raised to an Internunciature by Pope Pius XII in 1948 and to a full Apostolic Nunciature by Pope Paul VI in 1967. The Ancient Church of the East (Syriac: ܥܕܬܐ ܥܬܝܩܬܐ ܕܡܕܢܚܐ ʿĒdtā ʿAttiqtā ḏMaḏnḥā, Arabic: كنيسة المشرق القديمة, Kanīsat al-Mašriq al-Qadīma), officially the Ancient Holy Apostolic Catholic Church of the East, is an Eastern Christian denomination founded by Thoma Darmo in 1968.
The Ancient Church of the East distinguished itself from the Assyrian Church of the East in 1964. It is one of the Assyrian churches that claim continuity with the historical Patriarchate of Seleucia-Ctesiphon – the Church of the East, one of the oldest Christian churches in Mesopotamia. The church is headquartered in Baghdad, Iraq. In 1970, Catholicos-Patriarch Addai II Giwargis succeeded Thoma Darmo (1968–1969).
In 2015, while the patriarchate of the Assyrian Church of the East was vacant following the death of Dinkha IV, the Chaldean Catholic Patriarch Louis Raphaël I Sako proposed a "merger" or reunion of his own Chaldean Catholic Church with both the Assyrian Church of the East and the Ancient Church of the East to (re-)create one united "Church of the East" with a single patriarch in full communion with the Pope. The proposal did not go forward, and the Assyrian Church of the East elected a new patriarch of its own.

Christianity is India's third-largest religion after Hinduism and Islam, with approximately 27.8 million followers, constituting 2.3 percent of India's population (2011 census).[2]According to the tradition of Indian Christians, the Christian faith was introduced to India through Thomas the Apostle, who is said to have reached the Malabar Coast (Kerala) in 52 AD.[3][4][5][6] According to another tradition Bartholomew the Apostle is credited with simultaneously introducing Christianity along the Konkan Coast.[7] There is a general scholarly consensus that Christian communities were firmly established in the Malabar Coast (Kerala) of India by the 6th century AD,[8] which were communities who used Syriac liturgies. Starting from European colonisations from 15th century several Western Christian communities like Latin Rite Catholics and Protestants were created in different parts of the country.

Christians in India are members of different church denominations though some are also non-denominational. The state of Kerala is home to the Saint Thomas Christian community, an ancient body of Christians who according to tradition trace their origins to the evangelistic activity of Thomas the Apostle in the 1st century.[6] They are now divided into several different churches and traditions. There are East Syriac Rite denominations: the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church and the Chaldean Syrian Church. There are West Syriac Rite denominations: the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church , the Mar Thoma Syrian Church, the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, and the Malabar Independent Syrian Church. Saint Thomas Anglicans are members of the Church of South India (C.S.I.).[9][10][11] Roman Rite Catholicism was introduced to India by the Portuguese, Italian Capuchins and Irish Jesuits from the 16th century onwards, under the influence of its allied empires, resulting in the establishment of communities such as the Bettiah Christians of Bihar.[12][13] Many Christian schools, hospitals and primary care centres originated through the Roman Catholic missions brought by the trade of these countries.
The Church of North India and Church of South India are united Protestant Churches that were established as a result of evangelism and ecumenism by Anglicans, Methodists, and other Protestants in India who flourished in colonial India.[14] The CNI and CSI hold to a mixed polity with episcopal, presbyterian and congregational elements,[15][16][17] and are ecclesiastical provinces of the Anglican Communion, as well as members of the World Methodist Council and World Communion of Reformed Churches.[18][19][20] Further Protestantism was later spread to India by the efforts of North American, British, German, and independent non-denominational missionaries who preached the gospel to evangelise Indians; many Christian missionaries suffered from militant persecution and were martyred. Major denominations include non-Conformist reformed churches like Pentecostals, Baptists, Evangelicals, Methodist, Presbyterians, Mennonites, and Lutherans. There is also rising presence of Charismatic and Neo-Charismatic Movements across the nation.
During the 18th century, Protestant Christian missionaries campaigned towards the social reforms, notably by campaigning for the abolition of Sati (ritual self-immolation of widows), suppressing human sacrifices (particularly by tribals and Thuggees), taking measures in passing the Prevention Act, 1870 against female infanticide, and revolutionized educational system[21] Under the British Indian Empire, they had a key influence in drafting certain aspects of the Indian penal code by imposing specific Biblical prohibitions with offences related to marriages, adultery (which was at variance with Indian polygamous society of that time), as well as the controversial sodomy laws. They produced translations of the Bible in Indian languages including Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Hindi-Urdu etc.[22] The first known translation of Christian Scripture in an Indian language was done to Konkani in 1667 AD by Ignacio Arcamone, an Italian Jesuit.[23][24][25][26]
