Carter is a surname which originally meant a person who hauls goods in a cart. It comes from the Gaelic and Celtic word cairt (cart). Being of Gaelic and Celtic origins the name originated in Ireland and Scotland and later migrated to England where it was reduced to its English pronunciation and form. However, this name stems from a few common surnames, the names being McCarthy, McArthur and McCarter.
People with this surname may trace their ancestors back to Ireland, many of these name holders ancestors escaped Ireland during the Irish diaspora heading to Great Britain, the American colonies typically the colonies of New York, Massachusetts, Georgia and Virginia. Other immigrants entered the United States later during the Great Famine of Ireland in the 1840s and later. The Irish counties with the highest amount of families having this surname are Laois, Galway, Meath and Leitrim; Laois seems to be the place where most Carters settled or where the name began in origin. Within the past 150 to 200 years, the Carter surname has been adopted widely by the African American community, either with ethnic black and Irish mixing or taken from slavemasters by former slaves. This name is common among African Americans capable of tracing their roots back to the southern United States from the early 20th century onward.
I am a film maker who spent 13 years working mostly as an editor in Los Angeles, and this is my showreel from 2007.
This is a catchy music edit I did which I made a car/me commercial out of in 2007.
This is a segment I cut a few years ago for Trendwatch, a fashion show produced by Michael Young Media. I'm posting it as a tribute to Alexander McQueen following his untimely death. He was truly a great designer and he will be missed. See my other work on http://carterreedy.com
My friend Mike and I went for a tour of the Organic Transit factory and I test drove one of the prototypes. It's really fun to drive and the electric motor makes it easy to go fast. Pedaling makes it go even faster and hills are no problem.

Unlike pianist Andrew Hill, who, late in life, is finally being awarded the accolades he deserves, saxophonist/flautist Sam Rivers never received his proper due and continues to work in relative obscurity. Sure, his name is known amongst those who know, but mention him to casual jazz listeners and most will go "Sam who?" or perhaps, with the recent release of the Miles Davis Seven Steps box, "Oh yeah, the guy who played with Miles for one tour and then got fired." And it's a shame, because along with Hill and others, including another sadly-overlooked artist, trombonist Grachan Moncur III, Rivers was at the forefront of the mid-'60s movement that evolved hard bop towards a more left-leaning avant-garde. And while Rivers recorded fewer albums as a leader for Blue Note than Hill, his contrib...

There is a land, the land of greater art
But high mountains hide its heart
The gods play there, a soft sounds of harps
And in the air shine silver stars
There is a land, a land that mountains guard
A land for most mortals far
But if you pure in heart, the time will come for you
When you may follow an avatar through
But hear close the avatars words...
"Get your eagle wings, upon highest ground
Fill those wings with air and fly around
Seek the lands, ride the winds
Ride into its hearts, the realms within
On eagle wings, of highest ground
Carried to the place where art is found
A beauty great, inside its heart
Behold the lost land of greater art"
There is a land, the land of greater art
Where gods play on golden harps
Their music so great, a melodic and beautiful sound
And it reaches even highest ground
But into this land, where all are friends
Comes so greed of mortal men
And through a heart, a heart that evil hides
The dark now comes inside
No music sounds, no harps to play
The gods have left, now they're far away
Dark the land, broken silver stars
All the remains, are only memories of greater art
