Gentle Giant were a British progressive rock band active between 1970 and 1980. The band was known for the complexity and sophistication of its music and for the varied musical skills of its members. All of the band members, except Malcolm Mortimore, were multi-instrumentalists. Although not commercially successful, they did achieve a cult following.
The band's onetime stated aim was to "expand the frontiers of contemporary popular music at the risk of becoming very unpopular", although this stance was to alter significantly with time.
Gentle Giant's music was considered complex even by progressive rock standards, drawing on a broad swath of music including folk, soul, jazz, and classical music. Unlike many of their progressive rock contemporaries, their "classical" influences ranged beyond the Romantic and incorporated medieval, baroque, and modernist chamber music elements. The band also had a taste for broad themes for their lyrics, drawing inspiration not only from personal experiences but from philosophy and the works of both François Rabelais and R. D. Laing. In 2015 they were recognised with the lifetime achievement award at the Progressive Music Awards.
Pink Floyd were an English rock band formed in London. They achieved international acclaim with their progressive and psychedelic music. Distinguished by their use of philosophical lyrics, sonic experimentation, extended compositions and elaborate live shows, they are one of the most commercially successful and musically influential groups in the history of popular music.
Pink Floyd were founded in 1965 by students Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, Roger Waters, and Richard Wright. They gained popularity performing in London's underground music scene during the late 1960s, and under Barrett's leadership released two charting singles and a successful debut album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (1967). David Gilmour joined as a fifth member in December 1967; Barrett left the band in April 1968 due to deteriorating mental health. Waters became the band's primary lyricist and, by the mid-1970s, their dominant songwriter, devising the concepts behind their critically and commercially successful albums The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977), The Wall (1979) and The Final Cut (1983). The Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall became two of the best-selling albums of all time.
Giant or Giants may refer to:
A tribute act, tribute band or tribute group is a music group, singer, or musician who specifically plays the music of a well-known music act. Tribute acts include individual performers who mimic the songs and style of an artist, such as Elvis impersonators covering the works of Elvis Presley or groups like The Iron Maidens, an all-female band that pays tribute to Iron Maiden.
Many tribute bands, in addition to playing the music of an artist or group, also try to emulate the vocal styles and overall appearance of that group, to make as close an approximation as possible. Others introduce a twist on the original act; for example, Only One Direction have created a theatre show in London's West End around their act. Dread Zeppelin plays Led Zeppelin songs in a reggae style with a lead singer dressed up as Elvis Presley, while Gabba perform the songs of ABBA in the style of the Ramones.
Tribute bands usually name themselves based on the original band's name (sometimes with a pun), or on one of their songs or albums.
Fugue, a tribute to Gentle Giant
This cover of Pink Floyd's "Time" was released in 2011 on the Pink Floyd tribute double album, A Collection Of Delicate Diamonds: A Tribute To Pink Floyd. I've been working to finish my first video for a Gentle Giant track and when the audio on the Pink Floyd version of this video was muted a few days ago, I immediately thought about replacing the audio with this very, very cool cover. I guess if the classic Pink Floyd track doesn't want the video, I'll go ahead and give it to this cover instead. I only needed to add a few seconds to the original video, other than that, it's exactly the same video I originally created for the Floyd track. Several great musicians played on this track; Backing Vocals -- Billy Sherwood Bass -- Colin Moulding Drums -- Jay Schellen Electric Piano [Fender Rh...
Recorded this with a click track as my back beat. It's really difficult to make this riff swing, but I tried my best. Haven't learned to play the whole thing, so I stick to the excerpts I know how to play. My tribute to one of the most original bands of all time. Edit: A lot of the parts I'm playing are just plain wrong, and I will hopefully get an updated version up and running on youtube during 2014.
This is the unique song cause empty battery.

The Power and the Glory is an album by the British progressive rock group Gentle Giant, released in 1974. Contrary to popular belief, the title of the album and its many lyrical themes were not inspired by author Graham Greene's novel of the same name, although Derek Shulman was aware of Greene's novel. Guitarist Gary Green has cited this album as his favourite by the band. Though a fan favourite, the album is also perhaps the most dissonant and musically complex of all Gentle Giant albums. The album was released in the US and Canada by Capitol Records, as would all Gentle Giant's albums for the remainder of the decade. The concept album focused on an individual who means to do good using political power. He finds himself tempted to abuse the power, as have all of those who have come befor...

The group's third album was also their first American release to chart, peaking at #197 on the Billboard 200. It marked a change in drummers from Martin Smith to Malcolm Mortimore. In a Glass House About "In a Glass House": One of Gentle Giant's most popular albums (although the band themselves were not happy with it at the time, being made under pressure of Phil Shulman's departure), it was available in North America only as a rare import – both LP and CD – until 2004 when a digitally remastered CD was released. This was because their US label Columbia Records rejected the album as uncommercial. As a result Columbia dropped the band from the label which contractually allowed the band to take ownership of the original master recording and all rights to it. This cleared the way for the first "official" release of the title in the...

GENTLE GIANT - Interview - 1976 1. Yes it's been hard, going a long time and we're together even now. Why do you ask? Surely you know it! Isn't it clear just when and how. What can we tell you? At the beginning had no direction, any other way. After the fourth one, realisation, finding our road, the same as if today. 2. Well we all hear, everyone, no-one, not to not say, we like a lot. Want to be seen rock and roll music, Don't take us something that we're not. True it looks better, tide looks like turning, so all in all we feel we are alright. Yes we had troubles, much more than many, rather have none and do we think what's right. What are your plans, for the future now? And can you say who does the writing? How did you get -- who gave the name of the band? ...

GENTLE GIANT - Interview - 1976 As years drift by and future dies. 1. He sits and he thinks about all he's done in life, I'm now an old man, what have I been in life? what did I do? Had no end to aspire to. 2. His dreams as a boy were of hope and intention of making his mark with his plans and invention, where did they go, how could he know how time goes. In my day had to have certain future, but now you can do as you like, all that I might have wanted, seeking what you're after, but not for me. Everything comes to those who wait, I thought everything may come to me made my way only as I was able. 3. He knows there's no more he can do, no romances, now bitten today for they have all his chances, all too late, no one waits how time goes by. Seeking...
Lp: Interview 1976 / Interview (stylized ĭn′terview) is a concept album by British progressive rock band Gentle Giant which was released in 1976. This is a unique concept in the canon of Gentle Giant work in that it is conceived as a radio interview. Three of the tracks integrate brief "interview" sections which were staged in the studio. The title song has lyrics derived from the type of question and answer dialogue they had encountered while talking to the music press. This album was less successful with critics and in the charts than their previous albums.
Oh here I am, looking back again
At the road that led to you
All the times I write tryin' to save myself
From looking at the truth
I walk alone, while you are waiting
But somehow you saw through me
And now I'm standing at your door
You're the only one I need
It takes two, two hearts that beat together
To make it feel like one
Body and soul surrender
When love has just begun
It takes two, it takes two
I've been blinded by this fear inside
That love is just a game
You distract yourself with someone else
And both having travelled in pain
Bow now I see the road I've taken
Will lead me to nothing more
Than empty rooms without your love
Girl, I'm standing at your door
It takes two, two hearts that beat together
To make it feel like one
Body and soul surrender
When love has just begun
It takes two, it takes two, oh
I walk alone while you are waiting
I knew where I'm wanted to be
So now I'm standing at your door
You're the only one I need
It takes two, two hearts that beat together
To make it feel like one
Oh one life with you, one life with you
Oh, takes two, two hearts that beat together
To make it feel like one
Body and soul surrender
When love has just begun
