Renault has released local details for its updated Clio RS hot hatch.

The brand’s entry-level performance car features new looks including a revised front bumper with a fresh fog light arrangement inspired by chequered flags.

Powered by the same turbocharged 1.6-litre engine as before, the Clio continues to produce 147kW and 260Nm outputs. But it does benefit from new additions including a stop-start fuel saving system, parking sensors, a tyre pressure warning system and digital radio.

Renault has reduced the complexity of the Clio’s range, switching from five to four RS models.

Previously priced from $30,000 to $39,990 plus on-road coasts, the Clio is available in “Sport” form for $30,990 plus on-road costs, or as the more aggressive “Cup” for $32,490 plus on-road costs. Clio R.S. Cup models get a firmer suspension tune as well as black 18-inch wheels that replace silver 17-inch items on the standard car.

Dealers are set to offer the car with a range of options including a black pack ($500) that brings a black front bumper blade, bootlid, rear diffuser, badges and wheels, a leather pack ($1500) featuring dark leather with red stitching and heated front seats, and an entertainment pack ($1500) bringing sat nav, a Bose stereo, Android Auto phone mirroring and more.

On sale now, the updated model will be joined by an all-new Megane R.S. hot hatch in 2018.
