There are so many cameras out there in the marketplace from Nikon, Canon, Sony and others. When the Sony A7 series came out there were some inadequacies that many in the photography community pointed out for the fledgling line of cameras.
When Sony came out with the A7Rii, they answered the criticisms lobbied against them and introduced a truly game changing camera. While the camera isn't perfect (none are), it is in Jason's mind the best camera he's ever used and the best available camera for the money on the market today.

Kenneth Merrill is here with me today, and we're getting back to our camera reviews with the Canon 5D Mark IV (http://bhpho.to/2d0z9i4) vs the Sony a7R II (http://bhpho.to/2dnmQ3V). There's been a ton of buzz surrounding the release of the updated 5D. Many people feel Canon didn't go far enough. We took a look at the capabilities of both of these cameras, putting them head to head in order to see how the quality of the video held up over varying degrees of under and overexposure. I was really interested in the results because I have an a7R II and I was curious about how it would compare to the Mark IV.

Sony a7Rii vs Sony a7Sii, which one do I use the most?
I know I promised a Sony a7sii review a long time ago, already a lot of video comparisons between these two camera, but I have been using both for over 8 months now so I might have a different take on this and there is one camera I use more than the other, so I thought I would share.
I'm not going to guess what camera you should get based on your shooting style since I am sure most have already decided to own one of them by now.
Comparisons:
Both have IBIS, both have the same weak but tiny battery, very similar color science (not the case for a7s original), both do not overheat now
a7rii has a back-illuminated structure sensor that can only go up to 25k ISO for video mode
The a7Rii works best in cropped mode for video, while the a7Sii works best in FF mode
a7Sii is better in low light, but that is only when you get crazy high ISO like over 12,800
But watch out when the a7s mark III comes out with the back-illuminated structure at 12mp that should be amazing!
a7sii has slog2 and 3, while the a7rii only have slog2
a7Sii has aliasing in full frame mode when shooting in 4k where as 1080/24p doesn't have any aliasing
Slog2 starts at ISO 800 for the a7Rii while the a7Sii starts at ISO 1600
A7Rii has 42MP great for stills like landscapes, a7sii 12MP
a7Rii has much better AF-C since it has phase detection AF
a7Sii has slog assist
a7Sii you can shot for slow motion and playback in camera the slow motion, a7rii can't
a7sii can shoot 120fps at 1080, the a7Rii 120fps at 720
a7rii you can shoot 4k in aps-c mode, the a7sii can't
a7sii it is easier to shoot 4k wider than than the a7rii
both has bad rolling shutter
Since the a7sii works best in FF mode, you will get more shallow DOF for shots like interviews
I use Sony a7rii more for the following reasons:
I have created a Sony a7Rii course and a Sony a7Sii course, both I have pixel peeped a ton because these courses take months to make!
When I don't have control over the lighting and it's a high dynamic scene I shoot in slog2, the other times I am using a more linear creative style like Standard, I typically over expose slog by about 2 stops, well guess what happens, most of the time when I am shooting in Standard creative style with the correct exposure and then switch over to slog, the ISO jumps to 800 and the exposure is right where I need it, two stops too bright. With the a7sii it jumps to 1600 or 3200 and then requires downward exposure change, if you don't run and gun like I do this might not be a problem, but for me having to grab and ND filter when it jumps to 3200 is an issue.
The a7Rii AF is better, I use the a7rii a lot on a gimbal with AF and it works a lot better than the a7sii
I don't have to worry about moire when shooting at 4k.
When I am shooting stills I do enjoy having 42MP for portraits or landscapes
I mostly never shoot above 12,800 ISO both cameras have about the same noise below that.
For interviews I use the a7rii for my wide shot in 4k crop mode and the a7sii for my close up at 1080 full frame mode, the a7rii will give me a nice detailed wide shot while the a7sii will give me nice shallow DOF on the close up.

Sony A7R II
The Sony A7R II (stylized "Sony α7R II", model ILCE-7RM2) was announced by Sony on June 10, 2015. As of the time of its release, it has the largest backside illuminated CMOS sensor of any camera in the market, the previous largest being used in the Samsung NX1 released only months earlier. I know I promised a Sony a7sii review a long time ago, already a lot of video comparisons between these two camera, but I have been using both for over 8 months now so I might have a different take on this and there is one camera I use more than the other, so I thought I would share. I'm not going to guess what camera you should get based on your shooting style since I am sure most have already decided to own one of them by now. Comparisons: Both have IBIS, both have the same weak but tiny battery, very similar color science (not the case for a7s original), both do not overheat now a7rii has a back-illuminated structure sensor that can only go up to 25k ISO for video mode The a7Rii works best in cropped mode for video, while the a7Sii works best in FF mode a7Sii is better in low light, but that is only when you get crazy high ISO like over 12,800 But watch out when the a7s mark III comes out with the back-illuminated structure at 12mp that should be amazing! a7sii has slog2 and 3, while the a7rii only have slog2 a7Sii has aliasing in full frame mode when shooting in 4k where as 1080/24p doesn't have any aliasing Slog2 starts at ISO 800 for the a7Rii while the a7Sii starts at ISO 1600 A7Rii has 42MP great for stills like landscapes, a7sii 12MP a7Rii has much better AF-C since it has phase detection AF a7Sii has slog assist a7Sii you can shot for slow motion and playback in camera the slow motion, a7rii can't a7sii can shoot 120fps at 1080, the a7Rii 120fps at 720 a7rii you can shoot 4k in aps-c mode, the a7sii can't a7sii it is easier to shoot 4k wider than than the a7rii both has bad rolling shutter Since the a7sii works best in FF mode, you will get more shallow DOF for shots like interviews I use Sony a7rii more for the following reasons: I have created a Sony a7Rii course and a Sony a7Sii course, both I have pixel peeped a ton because these courses take months to make! When I don't have control over the lighting and it's a high dynamic scene I shoot in slog2, the other times I am using a more linear creative style like Standard, I typically over expose slog by about 2 stops, well guess what happens, most of the time when I am shooting in Standard creative style with the correct exposure and then switch over to slog, the ISO jumps to 800 and the exposure is right where I need it, two stops too bright. With the a7sii it jumps to 1600 or 3200 and then requires downward exposure change, if you don't run and gun like I do this might not be a problem, but for me having to grab and ND filter when it jumps to 3200 is an issue. The a7Rii AF is better, I use the a7rii a lot on a gimbal with AF and it works a lot better than the a7sii I don't have to worry about moire when shooting at 4k. When I am shooting stills I do enjoy having 42MP for portraits or landscapes I mostly never shoot above 12,800 ISO both cameras have about the same noise below that. There's been a ton of buzz surrounding the release of the updated 5D. Many people feel Canon didn't go far enough. We took a look at the capabilities of both of these cameras, putting them head to head in order to see how the quality of the video held up over varying degrees of under and overexposure. I was really interested in the results because I have an a7R II and I was curious about how it would compare to the Mark IV.

Hi, this is Jay P. Morgan. Kenneth Merrill is here with me today, and we're getting back to our camera reviews with the Canon 5D Mark IV (http://bhpho.to/2d0z9i4) vs the Sony a7R II (http://bhpho.to/2dnmQ3V). There's been a ton of buzz surrounding the release of the updated 5D. Many people feel Canon didn't go far enough. We took a look at the capabilities of both of these cameras, putting them head to head in order to see how the quality of the video held up over varying degrees of under and overexposure. I was really interested in the results because I have an a7R II and I was curious about how it would compare to the Mark IV.

Sony a7Rii vs Sony a7Sii, which one do I use the most?
I know I promised a Sony a7sii review a long time ago, already a lot of video comparisons between these two camera, but I have been using both for over 8 months now so I might have a different take on this and there is one camera I use more than the other, so I thought I would share.
I'm not going to guess what camera you should get based on your shooting style since I am sure most have already decided to own one of them by now.
Comparisons:
Both have IBIS, both have the same weak but tiny battery, very similar color science (not the case for a7s original), both do not overheat now
a7rii has a back-illuminated structure sensor that can only go up to 25k ISO for video mode
The a7Rii works best in cropped mode for video, while the a7Sii works best in FF mode
a7Sii is better in low light, but that is only when you get crazy high ISO like over 12,800
But watch out when the a7s mark III comes out with the back-illuminated structure at 12mp that should be amazing!
a7sii has slog2 and 3, while the a7rii only have slog2
a7Sii has aliasing in full frame mode when shooting in 4k where as 1080/24p doesn't have any aliasing
Slog2 starts at ISO 800 for the a7Rii while the a7Sii starts at ISO 1600
A7Rii has 42MP great for stills like landscapes, a7sii 12MP
a7Rii has much better AF-C since it has phase detection AF
a7Sii has slog assist
a7Sii you can shot for slow motion and playback in camera the slow motion, a7rii can't
a7sii can shoot 120fps at 1080, the a7Rii 120fps at 720
a7rii you can shoot 4k in aps-c mode, the a7sii can't
a7sii it is easier to shoot 4k wider than than the a7rii
both has bad rolling shutter
Since the a7sii works best in FF mode, you will get more shallow DOF for shots like interviews
I use Sony a7rii more for the following reasons:
I have created a Sony a7Rii course and a Sony a7Sii course, both I have pixel peeped a ton because these courses take months to make!
When I don't have control over the lighting and it's a high dynamic scene I shoot in slog2, the other times I am using a more linear creative style like Standard, I typically over expose slog by about 2 stops, well guess what happens, most of the time when I am shooting in Standard creative style with the correct exposure and then switch over to slog, the ISO jumps to 800 and the exposure is right where I need it, two stops too bright. With the a7sii it jumps to 1600 or 3200 and then requires downward exposure change, if you don't run and gun like I do this might not be a problem, but for me having to grab and ND filter when it jumps to 3200 is an issue.
The a7Rii AF is better, I use the a7rii a lot on a gimbal with AF and it works a lot better than the a7sii
I don't have to worry about moire when shooting at 4k.
When I am shooting stills I do enjoy having 42MP for portraits or landscapes
I mostly never shoot above 12,800 ISO both cameras have about the same noise below that.
For interviews I use the a7rii for my wide shot in 4k crop mode and the a7sii for my close up at 1080 full frame mode, the a7rii will give me a nice detailed wide shot while the a7sii will give me nice shallow DOF on the close up.

Hired out the Sony PXW FS7 during the easter break and went around filming parts of Perth, Mandurah/Dawesvile area, South Perth Foreshore, Applecross and the Hillary's Beach. Daydream in the Philippines
Visiting the Philippines has always been on the list of places I wanted to go and since I was back in Asia during the whale shark season, I decided to take the opportunity and traveled to the Philippines for 2 weeks. My plan was to spend the first week exploring the volcano part of the Philippines and last week in the islands. I had my friend to show me in and around Manila, getting to see the part of the city the western media doesn't show. I went and hiked to Mt Pinatubo lake and Lake Taal with my good friend April from Tripkada, explore the most symmetrical volcano in the world, Mayon Volcano in Legazpi, swim with whale sharks the right way in Donsol (not as disruptive as in Oslob), ride a motorbike around Bohol and jumped on a boat and cruise around the beautiful Palawan. This is an overview of the perfect travel rig for shooting professional photo and video. The foundation is two carry-ons that can be easily transported between cars, planes, hotels, and the field. This rig is meant for a solo-operator, in an extreme location, when time, space and image quality are crucial concerns. It is optimized for quick setup and breakdown. This rig is "lightweight" relative to a full pro kit -- it is not intended to replace a hobbyist's backpack.

The 1DC is the primary photo unit, also used for 4K video when appropriate (weather sealed). The C100 is the primary video unit, thanks to the autofocus and waveform monitoring. Three lenses cover 16-200mm focal lengths and can be used on both cameras. Accessories include ND filters, external SSDs, tripod, and storage. The two storage units operate best when combined with a small shoulder bag or sling, to use when walking far distances with either camera. A note on the A7s below.

There are a number of different options that would work just as well for this rig setup. I personally prefer the Canon image and found that this combination was best for traveling in Iceland and most recently, Antarctica. Obviously a camera like the Sony A7s would be lighter, but in testing, it proved to have worrisome battery life and awkward ergonomics; it's also not weather-sealed. The 1DC is bulletproof, has a better image to my eye, and is shooting 4K internal -- all combined with an absurd photo-platform.
*I did not bring any loupes, like the Zacuto Z-finder, because taking them on/off can be really annoying when going quickly in and out of a case or bag. For the C100 I relied on the waveform to ensure proper exposure and autofocus to ensure accurate image. On the 1DC, when I did shoot video, I did my best to use the LCD and shot a little under to protect the highlights.

"just another travel video" is my graduation film from university and took almost three weeks of shooting in jordan (amman, aqaba, dead sea, red sea, wadi rum, petra) and germany (mainz, saarbrücken). the video editing was done in 2 weeks using pp cc (cut and grading). i do highly recommend jordan for a visit; you will enjoy your stay.

I thought I knew what a good hospitality is like.. until I came to Iran.
"Why go to Iran?" This is a question people often asked when I tell them I was going there. I would have ask the same if it wasn't the words of mouth I heard over the years about how awesome Iran is, how incredibly friendly the people are, and how off the beaten path the whole country is.
The first day I arrived in Tehran, I was walking around the Bazaar and we were approached by several locals asking what we think about Iran, gave us free tea and cakes, and allowed us to roam their warehouses without asking for anything in return. This similar scenario happened a lot more throughout my 2 weeks time in Iran and really got me thinking about how misinformed I was about the country. It is very safe to travel in Iran, easy to do it independently as the locals will go out of their ways to help you, and the people are one of the friendliest people in the world. Not to mention how beautiful the landscape is, how stunning all the attractions are, and how off the beaten track the whole country is.
Iran is truly a special country that with restore your heart and soul and I hope that this video shows at least half of the warmth I got from the amazing people in Iran.

Visiting the Philippines has always been on the list of places I wanted to go and since I was back in Asia during the whale shark season, I decided to take the opportunity and traveled to the Philippines for 2 weeks. My plan was to spend the first week exploring the volcano part of the Philippines and last week in the islands.
I had my friend to show me in and around Manila, getting to see the part of the city the western media doesn't show. I went and hiked to Mt Pinatubo lake and Lake Taal with my good friend April from Tripkada, explore the most symmetrical volcano in the world, Mayon Volcano in Legazpi, swim with whale sharks the right way in Donsol (not as disruptive as in Oslob), ride a motorbike around Bohol and jumped on a boat and cruise around the beautiful Palawan.
My first travel video since I switched to Sony a6500 from Sony RX100! Many new techniques I tried here so let me know if you like them. The video is much slower with less head spinning transition than my previous travel videos due to me getting used to the new setup but I hope this creates a unique spin to my film! Let me know what you think about the video!

Visiting the Philippines has always been on the list of places I wanted to go and since I was back in Asia during the whale shark season, I decided to take the opportunity and traveled to the Philippines for 2 weeks. My plan was to spend the first week exploring the volcano part of the Philippines and last week in the islands.
I had my friend to show me in and around Manila, getting to see the part of the city the western media doesn't show. I didn't get to spend much time in Bolivia (2 weeks only which in comparison to other countries I've done in South America was not much) and I only get to see 3 parts of the country. That said, I did enjoy Bolivia, Potosi and one place the made it all worthwhile to come all the way to this part of the world.. Salar de Uyuni! This salt flat is as alien as it gets. From the infinite sight of the salt flat itself to the colorful lakes and life within the salt flat, Salar de Uyuni is really worth the hype.
