Lucasfilm has hired the writer of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child to put a new spin on Star Wars Episode IX.
Jack Thorne is coming aboard to rework the most recent draft of the Episode IX screenplay from director Colin Trevorrow and his Jurassic World writing partner Derek Connolly (via The Hollywood Reporter).
New Episode IX writer Thorne is the man behind TV hits This is England and National Treasure, and has just finished the Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson family drama Wonder.
Trevorrow has been very publicly trying to assuage doubts about Lucasfilm's choice to hire him for the Star Wars sequel, following the critical bashing and financial failure of his latest movie The Book of Henry.
"Not only did I grow up on these stories, like all of us did, [but] I think that the values of Star Wars are values that I hold very close and very dear in my life," he told The Hollywood Reporter.
"I feel that the message of the way that the Force teaches you to treat other people and show respect for others, and the way it guides you through life, is really important to me.
"And I hope everybody would realise that that set of stories has affected me as deeply in my life as it has affected them."
Star Wars: The Last Jedi arrives December 15, while Episode IX comes to US and UK cinemas on May 24, 2019.
