Herschel Saltzman (October 27, 1915 – September 28, 1994), better known as Harry Saltzman, was a Canadian theatre and film producer, best known for his role in co-producing the James Bond film series with Albert R. Broccoli. He lived for the most of his life in Denham, Buckinghamshire, England.
Saltzman was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, the son of Jewish immigrants. Raised in Saint John, New Brunswick for the first seven years of his life, Saltzman was 30 when he learned where he'd actually been born. His father, a horticulturalist, then moved the family to Cleveland, Ohio. He ran away from home at the age of 15, according to daughter Hilary Saltzman in the Ian Fleming Foundation documentary Harry Saltzman: Showman. At about the age of 17, he joined a circus and traveled with them for some years.
In 1932, Saltzman moved to Paris, France to study political science and economics. However "within a year," he was "hand-picking talent for 40 two-a-day vaudeville houses all over Europe." Saltzman claimed that he had worked as an assistant for French film director René Clair, who came to America in 1940 to make the film The Flame of New Orleans.
The James Bond series focuses on a fictional British Secret Service agent created in 1953 by writer Ian Fleming, who featured him in twelve novels and two short-story collections. Since Fleming's death in 1964, eight other authors have written authorised Bond novels or novelizations: Kingsley Amis, Christopher Wood, John Gardner, Raymond Benson, Sebastian Faulks, Jeffery Deaver, William Boyd and Anthony Horowitz. The latest novel is Trigger Mortis by Anthony Horowitz, published in September 2015. Additionally Charlie Higson wrote a series on a young James Bond, and Kate Westbrook wrote three novels based on the diaries of a recurring series character, Moneypenny.
The character has also been adapted for television, radio, comic strip, video games and film. The films are the longest continually running and the third-highest-grossing film series to date, which started in 1962 with Dr. No, starring Sean Connery as Bond. As of 2016, there have been twenty-four films in the Eon Productions series. The most recent Bond film, Spectre (2015), stars Daniel Craig in his fourth portrayal of Bond; he is the sixth actor to play Bond in the Eon series. There have also been two independent productions of Bond films: Casino Royale (a 1967 spoof) and Never Say Never Again (a 1983 remake of an earlier Eon-produced film, Thunderball).
Kelly Le Brock (born March 24, 1960) is an American actress and model. Her acting debut was in The Woman in Red co-starring with comic actor Gene Wilder. She also starred in the films Weird Science, directed by John Hughes, and Hard to Kill, with Steven Seagal.
Le Brock was born in New York City, but brought up in London, United Kingdom. She is the daughter of a French-Canadian father who owned a quicksilver mine and opened The General Thurber Inn, a three-star Michelin restaurant in Rouses Point, New York. Kelly's Irish mother, a former model, was the owner of fine antique stores in London. Le Brock spent her early school days in Buckinghamshire, England and Lewes, Sussex (1969-1976). At the age of 16, Le Brock returned to New York and started her career as a high fashion and beauty model.
Le Brock began her career as a model at age 16. She went on to appear on numerous magazine covers and in fashion spreads, including an exclusive Christian Dior campaign, and became one of Eileen Ford's most sought-after models. She also gained notoriety as the Pantene shampoo commercial spokeswoman whose line "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful" became a pop-culture catchphrase.
