She has won several accolades, including three National Film Awards in three different categories, and six Filmfare Awards South. Revathi is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer, having studied since the age of seven and performed her arangetram in Chennai in 1979.
Apart from films, Revathi has been involved in a variety of social organisations, the most notable being the Banyan, Ability foundation, Tanker foundation and Vidyasagar, and has also served as a member of several film festivals including the Chennai International Film Festival and the International Film Festival of India.
Revathi was born in Kochi to Kelunni Nair, a major in the Indian Army who hails from Kallikkad, Palakkad, and Lalitha Kelunni. She has a younger sister Bindu. Malayalam actress Geetha Vijayan is her cousin.
Revathi married cinematographer and director Suresh Chandra Menon in 1986. The couple don't have any children. However following differences between them, they started living separately from 2002 and were granted divorce on 23 April 2013 by Chennai Additional Family Court. Revathi said in an interview that they would remain good friends even after the divorce. On July 8, 2014, she publicly announced that she had adopted a daughter, Mahee in 2012.
A film festival is an organized, extended presentation of films in one or more cinemas or screening venues, usually in a single city or region. Increasingly, film festivals show some films outdoors. Films may be of recent date and, depending upon the festival's focus, can include international and domestic releases. Some festivals focus on a specific film-maker or genre (e.g., film noir) or subject matter (e.g., horror film festivals). A number of film festivals specialise in short films of a defined maximum length. Film festivals are typically annual events. Some film historians do not consider Film Festivals as official releases of film, like Jerry Beck. The best known film festivals are the Venice Film Festival, the Cannes Film Festival, the Toronto Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, and the Berlin International Film Festival, the latter being the largest film festival worldwide, based on attendance. The Venice Film Festival is the oldest major festival. The Melbourne International Film Festival is the largest film festival in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the oldest in the world. A 2013 study found 3,000 active films festivals worldwide—active defined as having held an event in the previous 24 months.
Mouna Ragam (English: Silent Symphony, also spelt Mouna Raagam) is a 1986 Indian Tamil romantic-drama film written and directed by Mani Ratnam, and produced by G. Venkateswaran. The film narrates the life of Divya Chandramouli (Revathi), who is robbed of her carefree existence when she reluctantly marries Chandrakumar (Mohan). Divya does not wish for a married life due to her grief over her former lover, Manohar (Karthik), being shot to death. The rest of the story follows Divya's inner conflict between holding on to her past or coming to terms with the present and uniting with Chandrakumar.
Mouna Ragam's development began when Ratnam wrote a short story titled Divya, while he was making his debut film Pallavi Anu Pallavi (1983). As the script developed he renamed it. He did not plan to film the story until he finished writing it, but he could not start actual production on it until after his fourth film, Idaya Kovil (1985), was released. Mouna Ragam was mostly filmed in Chennai; additional filming took place in Delhi and Agra. The soundtrack album and background score were composed by Ilaiyaraaja with lyrics by Vaali, cinematography was handled by P. C. Sreeram, and the art director was Thotta Tharani. The film was jointly edited by B. Lenin and V. T. Vijayan. The final length of the film was 3,987 metres (13,081 ft).
Suresh Chandra Menon is an Indian actor, cinematographer and film director. He is mainly notable for having directed and played the lead role in the Tamil film Pudhiya Mugam along with his wife Revathi.
After meeting the popular actress Revathi during a film shoot, they fell in love and were married in 1986 with the blessings of their parents. They did not have any children. Though they looked like an ideal couple, differences arose between the two and they decided to amicably separate in 2002. Revathy and Suresh Menon then filed separate petitions, seeking mutual split, before the court. On 22 April 2013 a family court in Chennai granted them mutual divorce considering the fact that they had been living separately for the past 10 years. Revathi said in an interview that they would remain good friends even after the divorce.
He is known for directing many documentaries. He directed, produced and played the lead role in the Tamil film Pudhiya Mugam which was released in 1993. His wife Revathi was the lead heroine in the film. It was both a critical and commercial success. He went on to direct another film Paasamalargal which also released in 1993. This film also cast his now separated wife Revathi as the lead heroine starring along with Arvind Swamy.Ajith Kumar who would later become a popular actor in Tamil cinema played a minor supporting role in the film.
Gopala Ratnam Subramaniam (born 2 June 1955), commonly known by his screen name Mani Ratnam, is an Indian film director, screenwriter, and producer who predominantly works in Tamil cinema. Cited by the media as one of India's most acclaimed and influential filmmakers, Mani Ratnam is widely credited with revolutionising the Tamil film industry and altering the profile of Indian cinema. Although working in the mainstream medium, his films are noted for their realism, technical finesse, and craft. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri, acknowledging his contributions to film in 2002.
Despite being born into a film family, Mani Ratnam did not develop any interest towards films when he was young. Upon completion of his post graduation in management, he started his career as a consultant. He entered the film industry through the 1983 Kannada film Pallavi Anu Pallavi. The failure of his subsequent films would mean that he was left with little offers. However, his fifth directorial Mouna Ragam (1986) established him as a leading filmmaker in Tamil cinema. He followed that with the Godfatheresque Nayagan (1987), which is regarded as a cult film over the years. Mani Ratnam is well known for his "Political trilogy" consisting of Roja (1992), Bombay (1995), and Dil Se.. (1998). The commercial and critical success of Roja established him as a leading filmmaker in Indian cinema.
