Partition presupposes that lines can be drawn around peoples and nations granting them political and legislative autonomy to pursue their national destiny or to underline cultural or religious distinctiveness. It’s a concept with which Ireland is very familiar, but to what extent was partition the rule and not the exception in twentieth century statecraft?.
“As I outlined in my TEDxUCD 2016 talk recent decades have seen the erosion of boundaries and borders, both geographically and emotionally. However, the more recent past and, it would seem the immediate future, heralds a return of harder borders. Be it on the frontiers of the European Union, the Irish-Northern Irish Border, US-Mexican border, and even the English-Scottish Border, the old maps are coming out and lines are being redrawn or reinforced.
He concluded, “New national and regional identities are constructed in the wake of partition, and lines on maps leave behind social, political and cultural legacies.”
Conor specialises in Westminster politics and Irish constitutional nationalism in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, Conor teaches courses on memory and commemoration, Home Rule, and the history of Northern Ireland.
He previously worked on the Royal Irish Academy’s Documents on Irish Foreign Policy project, & received Irish Research Council New Foundations Funding for a project entitled Universities in Revolution and State Formation. He is currently leading a cross-border project entitled 1916 and me, 2016 and us. Conor has recently published two monographs: Irish Days, Indian Memories: V. V. Giri and Indian Law Students at UCD, 1913-1916 & The Irish Parliamentary Party at Westminster, 1900-18. He is currently writing a history of UCD during the Irish Revolution.

The Partition of India was the division of British India[a] in 1947 which accompanied the creation of two independent dominions, India and Pakistan. The Dominion of India is today the republic of India, and the Dominion of Pakistan the republics of Pakistan and Bangladesh. The partition involved the division of two provinces, Bengal and the Punjab, based on district-wise Hindu or Muslim majorities. The boundary demarcating India and Pakistan became known as the Radcliffe Line. It also involved the division of the British Indian Army, the Royal Indian Navy, the Indian Civil Service, the railways, and the central treasury, between the two new dominions. The partition was set forth in the Indian Independence Act 1947 and resulid in the dissolution of the British Raj, as the British government there was called. The two self-governing countries of India and Pakistan legally came into existence at midnight on 14–15 August 1947.
The partition displaced between 10 and 12 million people along religious lines, creating overwhelming refugee crises in the newly constituted dominions; there was large-scale violence, with estimates of loss of life accompanying or preceding the partition disputed and varying between several hundred thousand and two million. The violent nature of the partition created an atmosphere of hostility and suspicion between India and Pakistan that plagues their relationship to the present.
The term partition of India does not cover the secession of Bangladesh from Pakistan in 1971, nor the earlier separations of Burma (now Myanmar) and Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) from the administration of British India.The term also does not cover the political integration of princely states into the two new dominions, nor the disputes of annexation or division arising in the princely states of Hyderabad, Junagadh, and Jammu and Kashmir, though violence along religious lines did break out in some princely states at the time of the partition. It does not cover the incorporation of the enclaves of French India into India during the period 1947–1954, nor the annexation of Goa and other districts of Portuguese India by India in 1961. Other contemporaneous political entities in the region in 1947, Sikkim, Bhutan, Nepal, and the Maldives were unaffected by the partition

A Message from the East is an inspirational film about the life and work of Muhammad Iqbal, the national poet of Pakistan. A crew of 10 Chicago Filmmakers traveled from Germany, Dubai, Pakistan, Turkey, Spain, Canada, and parts of the United States to retrace the steps and thoughts of the most inspiring Muslim Poet of the 20th Century.
This film seeks to answer the misunderstood question: "Where are the moderate Muslims?" and it decisively shows us they are here, their voices are strong, and they have been with us for quite some time.
Muhammad Iqbal was a man who understood the nature of contradiction and the necessity of balancing the converging forces in our lives. An inspiration to the people of the subcontinent and an advocate of cultural understanding and peace, Iqbal was instrumental in the stages leading up to the Partition of India and the Creation of Pakistan. A poet, philosopher, lawyer, and a political activist, Iqbal spoke of the power we have as individuals to strengthen ourselves and our communities through respect for the cultural other and by being engaged with the present moment. Through the inspiration of the 13th Century Mystical Poet Rumi from Turkey, Iqbal believed the problems of his own time would not be solved unless we had a greater understanding of ourselves. It is our responsibility to be actively involved in our own communities and co-creators of the world we wish to see.
In order for us to understand the current situation in Pakistan and Afghanistan and the rising paranoia of Radical Extremism we need to look at this critical point of history to understand those who where concerned with these same issues 100 years ago.
In a post-9/11 world that is rampant with paranoia and cultural misconceptions it is now more important than ever to embrace those elements which unite us as people rather than to focus on the differences which divide us. The greatest problems of the 21st Century have little to do with radical extremism and everything to do with our perceptions of ourselves and each other. The message of Iqbal is a strikingly contemporary one which encourages us to overcome our suspicions and doubts. Ahead of his time, he understood Einstein's Theory of Relativity as a vehicle to bridge the differences between Religion and Science. Iqbal will go down in history as a Revolutionary Thinker who spoke for the freedom and dignity of all people.
The basis of Iqbal's message is clearly represented in his 1938 New Years Address shortly before his death:
"Only one unity is dependable and that unity is the brotherhood of man, which is above race, nationality, color or language. So long as this so-called democracy, this accursed Nationalism, and this degraded imperialism are not shattered, so long as men do not demonstrate by their actions that they believe that the whole world is the family of God, so long as distinctions of race, color and geographical nationalities are not wiped out completely, they will never be able to lead a happy and contented life and the beautiful ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity will never materialize." - Allama Muhammad Iqbal

Politics
Politics (from Greek: πολιτικός politikos, definition "of, for, or relating to citizens") is the practice and theory of influencing other people. Politics involves the making of a common decision for a group of people, that is, a uniform decision applying in the same way to all members of the group. It also involves the use of power by one person to affect the behavior of another person. More narrowly, it refers to achieving and exercising positions of governance — organized control over a human community, particularly a state. Furthermore, politics is the study or practice of the distribution of power and resources within a given community (a usually hierarchically organized population) as well as the interrelationship(s) between communities.

Film festival
A film festival is an organized, extended presentation of films in one or more cinemas or screening venues, usually in a single city or region. Increasingly, film festivals show some films outdoors. India–Pakistan relations
Relations between India and Pakistan have been complex due to a number of historical and political events. Relations between the two states have been defined by the violent partition of British India in 1947, the Kashmir conflict and the numerous military conflicts fought between the two nations. Consequently, even though the two South Asian nations share linguistic, cultural, geographic, and economic links, their relationship has been plagued by hostility and suspicion.
After the dissolution of the British Raj in 1947, two new sovereign nations were formed—the Dominion of India and the Dominion of Pakistan. The subsequent partition of the former British India displaced up to 12.5 million people, with estimates of loss of life varying from several hundred thousand to 1 million.India emerged as a secular nation with a Hindu majority population and a large Muslim minority while Pakistan was established as an Islamic republic with an overwhelming Muslim majority population; although its constitution guarantees freedom of religion to people of all faiths.

In a post-9/11 world that is rampant with paranoia and cultural misconceptions it is now more important than ever to embrace those elements which unite us as people rather than to focus on the differences which divide us. The greatest problems of the 21st Century have little to do with radical extremism and everything to do with our perceptions of ourselves and each other. The message of Iqbal is a strikingly contemporary one which encourages us to overcome our suspicions and doubts. Ahead of his time, he understood Einstein's Theory of Relativity as a vehicle to bridge the differences between Religion and Science. Iqbal will go down in history as a Revolutionary Thinker who spoke for the freedom and dignity of all people. The basis of Iqbal's message is clearly represented in his 1938 New Years Address shortly before his death: "Only one unity is dependable and that unity is the brotherhood of man, which is above race, nationality, color or language. A year of events of historical significance is drawing to an end. A year of great decisions lies ahead. In these serious times, I speak to you, deputies of the German Reichstag, as the representatives of the German nation. Beyond and above that, the whole German people should take note of this glance into the past, as well as of the coming decisions the present and future impose upon us. After the renewed refusal of my peace offer in January 1940 by the then British Prime Minister and the clique which supported or dominated him, it became clear that this war - against all reasons of common sense and necessity - must be fought to its end. You know me, my old Party companions; you know I have always been an enemy of half measures or weak decisions. If the Providence has so willed that the German people cannot be spared this fight, then I can only be grateful that it entrusted me with the leadership in this historic struggle which, for the next 500 or 1,000 years, will be described as decisive, not only for the history of Germany, but for the whole of Europe and indeed the whole world. The German people and their soldiers are working and fighting today, not only for the present, but also for the coming, nay the most distant, generations. The Creator has imposed a historical revision on a unique scale upon us. Shortly after the end of the campaign in Norway, the German Command was forced, first of all, to ensure the military security of the conquered areas. Since then the defences of the conquered countries have changed considerably. From Kirkenes to the Spanish Frontier there is a belt of great bases and fortifications; many airfields have been built, naval bases with protection for submarines, which are practically invulnerable from sea or air. More than 1,500 new batteries have been planned and constructed. A network of roads and railways was constructed so that today communications from the Spanish Frontier to Petsano are independent of the sea. These installations in no way fall behind those of the Western Wall, and work continues incessantly on strengthening them. I am irrevocably determined to make the European Front unassailable by any enemy. This defensive work was supplemented by offensive warfare. German surface and underwater naval Forces carried on their constant war of attrition against the British Merchant Navy and the ships in its service. The German Air Force supported these attacks by reconnaissance, by damaging enemy shipping, by numerous retaliatory raids which have given the English a better idea of the ‘ ever so charming ’ war caused by their present Prime Minister. In the middle of last year Germany was supported above all by Italy. For many months a great part of British power weighed heavily on the shoulders of Italy. Only because of their tremendous superiority in heavy tanks could the English create a temporary crisis in North Africa. On 24th March a small community of German-Italian units under Rommel's command began the counter-attack. The German Africa Corps performed outstanding achievements though they were completely unaccustomed to the climate of this theatre of war. Just as once in Spain, now in North Africa Germans and Italians have taken up arms against the same enemy. While with these bold measures the North African Front was again secured by the blood of German and Italian soldiers, the shadow of a terrible danger threatening Europe gathered overhead. Only in obedience of bitter necessity did I decide in my heart in 1939, to make the attempt, or at least, to create the prerequisites for a lasting peace in Europe by eliminating the causes of German-Russian tension. This was psychologically difficult owing to the general attitude of the German people, and above all, of the party, towards Bolshevism. It was not difficult from a purely material point of view - because Germany was only intent on her economic interests in all the territories which England declared to be threatened by us and which she attacked with her promises of aid- for you will allow me to remind you that England, throughout the spring and late summer of 1939, offered its aid to numerous countries, declaring that it was our intention to invade those countries and thus deprive them of their liberty. The German Reich and its Government were therefore able to affirm, with a clear conscience, that these allegations were false and had no bearing whatsoever on reality. Add to this the military realization that in the case of war, which British diplomacy was to force on the German people, a two front war would ensue and call for very great sacrifice. Partition presupposes that lines can be drawn around peoples and nations granting them political and legislative autonomy to pursue their national destiny or to underline cultural or religious distinctiveness. It’s a concept with which Ireland is very familiar, but to what extent was partition the rule and not the exception in twentieth century statecraft?.
“As I outlined in my TEDxUCD 2016 talk recent decades have seen the erosion of boundaries and borders, both geographically and emotionally. However, the more recent past and, it would seem the immediate future, heralds a return of harder borders. Be it on the frontiers of the European Union, the Irish-Northern Irish Border, US-Mexican border, and even the English-Scottish Border, the old maps are coming out and lines are being redrawn or reinforced.
He concluded, “New national and regional identities are constructed in the wake of partition, and lines on maps leave behind social, political and cultural legacies.”
Conor specialises in Westminster politics and Irish constitutional nationalism in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, Conor teaches courses on memory and commemoration, Home Rule, and the history of Northern Ireland.
He previously worked on the Royal Irish Academy’s Documents on Irish Foreign Policy project, & received Irish Research Council New Foundations Funding for a project entitled Universities in Revolution and State Formation. He is currently leading a cross-border project entitled 1916 and me, 2016 and us. Conor has recently published two monographs: Irish Days, Indian Memories: V. V. Giri and Indian Law Students at UCD, 1913-1916 & The Irish Parliamentary Party at Westminster, 1900-18. He is currently writing a history of UCD during the Irish Revolution.

The Partition of India was the division of British India[a] in 1947 which accompanied the creation of two independent dominions, India and Pakistan. The Dominion of India is today the republic of India, and the Dominion of Pakistan the republics of Pakistan and Bangladesh. The partition involved the division of two provinces, Bengal and the Punjab, based on district-wise Hindu or Muslim majorities. The boundary demarcating India and Pakistan became known as the Radcliffe Line. It also involved the division of the British Indian Army, the Royal Indian Navy, the Indian Civil Service, the railways, and the central treasury, between the two new dominions. The partition was set forth in the Indian Independence Act 1947 and resulid in the dissolution of the British Raj, as the British government there was called. The two self-governing countries of India and Pakistan legally came into existence at midnight on 14–15 August 1947.
The partition displaced between 10 and 12 million people along religious lines, creating overwhelming refugee crises in the newly constituted dominions; there was large-scale violence, with estimates of loss of life accompanying or preceding the partition disputed and varying between several hundred thousand and two million. The violent nature of the partition created an atmosphere of hostility and suspicion between India and Pakistan that plagues their relationship to the present.
The term partition of India does not cover the secession of Bangladesh from Pakistan in 1971, nor the earlier separations of Burma (now Myanmar) and Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) from the administration of British India.The term also does not cover the political integration of princely states into the two new dominions, nor the disputes of annexation or division arising in the princely states of Hyderabad, Junagadh, and Jammu and Kashmir, though violence along religious lines did break out in some princely states at the time of the partition. It does not cover the incorporation of the enclaves of French India into India during the period 1947–1954, nor the annexation of Goa and other districts of Portuguese India by India in 1961. Other contemporaneous political entities in the region in 1947, Sikkim, Bhutan, Nepal, and the Maldives were unaffected by the partition

A Message from the East is an inspirational film about the life and work of Muhammad Iqbal, the national poet of Pakistan. A crew of 10 Chicago Filmmakers traveled from Germany, Dubai, Pakistan, Turkey, Spain, Canada, and parts of the United States to retrace the steps and thoughts of the most inspiring Muslim Poet of the 20th Century.
This film seeks to answer the misunderstood question: "Where are the moderate Muslims?" and it decisively shows us they are here, their voices are strong, and they have been with us for quite some time.
Muhammad Iqbal was a man who understood the nature of contradiction and the necessity of balancing the converging forces in our lives. In order for us to understand the current situation in Pakistan and Afghanistan and the rising paranoia of Radical Extremism we need to look at this critical point of history to understand those who where concerned with these same issues 100 years ago.
In a post-9/11 world that is rampant with paranoia and cultural misconceptions it is now more important than ever to embrace those elements which unite us as people rather than to focus on the differences which divide us. A Message from the East is an inspirational film about the life and work of Muhammad Iqbal, the national poet of Pakistan. A crew of 10 Chicago Filmmakers traveled from Germany, Dubai, Pakistan, Turkey, Spain, Canada, and parts of the United States to retrace the steps and thoughts of the most inspiring Muslim Poet of the 20th Century.
This film seeks to answer the misunderstood question: "Where are the moderate Muslims?" and it decisively shows us they are here, their voices are strong, and they have been with us for quite some time.

After the renewed refusal of my peace offer in January 1940 by the then British Prime Minister and the clique which supported or dominated him, it became clear that this war - against all reasons of common sense and necessity - must be fought to its end. You know me, my old Party companions; you know I have always been an enemy of half measures or weak decisions.
If the Providence has so willed that the German people cannot be spared this fight, then I can only be grateful that it entrusted me with the leadership in this historic struggle which, for the next 500 or 1,000 years, will be described as decisive, not only for the history of Germany, but for the whole of Europe and indeed the whole world.
The German people and their soldiers are working and fighting today, not only for the present, but also for the coming, nay the most distant, generations. The Creator has imposed a historical revision on a unique scale upon us.
Shortly after the end of the campaign in Norway, the German Command was forced, first of all, to ensure the military security of the conquered areas. Since then the defences of the conquered countries have changed considerably. From Kirkenes to the Spanish Frontier there is a belt of great bases and fortifications; many airfields have been built, naval bases with protection for submarines, which are practically invulnerable from sea or air.
More than 1,500 new batteries have been planned and constructed. A network of roads and railways was constructed so that today communications from the Spanish Frontier to Petsano are independent of the sea. These installations in no way fall behind those of the Western Wall, and work continues incessantly on strengthening them. I am irrevocably determined to make the European Front unassailable by any enemy.
This defensive work was supplemented by offensive warfare. German surface and underwater naval Forces carried on their constant war of attrition against the British Merchant Navy and the ships in its service. The German Air Force supported these attacks by reconnaissance, by damaging enemy shipping, by numerous retaliatory raids which have given the English a better idea of the ‘ ever so charming ’ war caused by their present Prime Minister.
In the middle of last year Germany was supported above all by Italy. For many months a great part of British power weighed heavily on the shoulders of Italy. Only because of their tremendous superiority in heavy tanks could the English create a temporary crisis in North Africa. On 24th March a small community of German-Italian units under Rommel's command began the counter-attack.
The German Africa Corps performed outstanding achievements though they were completely unaccustomed to the climate of this theatre of war. Just as once in Spain, now in North Africa Germans and Italians have taken up arms against the same enemy.
While with these bold measures the North African Front was again secured by the blood of German and Italian soldiers, the shadow of a terrible danger threatening Europe gathered overhead. Only in obedience of bitter necessity did I decide in my heart in 1939, to make the attempt, or at least, to create the prerequisites for a lasting peace in Europe by eliminating the causes of German-Russian tension.
This was psychologically difficult owing to the general attitude of the German people, and above all, of the party, towards Bolshevism. It was not difficult from a purely material point of view - because Germany was only intent on her economic interests in all the territories which England declared to be threatened by us and which she attacked with her promises of aid- for you will allow me to remind you that England, throughout the spring and late summer of 1939, offered its aid to numerous countries, declaring that it was our intention to invade those countries and thus deprive them of their liberty.
The German Reich and its Government were therefore able to affirm, with a clear conscience, that these allegations were false and had no bearing whatsoever on reality. Add to this the military realization that in the case of war, which British diplomacy was to force on the German people, a two front war would ensue and call for very great sacrifice.
When, on top of all this, the Baltic States and Rumania showed themselves prone to accept the British Pacts of assistance, and thus let it be seen

Yes. You heard what I said. All of it. It's all a bunch of lies. I know that it is a shocking claim to many, that our trusted officials in concert with our reliable mass media actually participated in deliberate deception designed to get us to accept war, but deal with it. I'm making it.
Our biggest moral obligation is ensuring that wars are not waged against people under false pretenses. War is the most disgusting and horrible thing you can inflict on any person.
As you read this article I am sure you will find there are a number of things that will surprise you. After researching the situation for months I assure you I have investigated as many sides of the story as possible. But I did reach a clear conclusion and I will not shy away from openly expressing the views that I have formed during this process.
What we have been seeing recently in the media, this time with a special emphasis on the online community, is the most sophisticated propaganda firework display we have ever witnessed. It’s no surprise so many people have been duped.
But a lie can travel the world before the truth has tied it’s shoe laces. But I believe that once the laces have been tied and the truth starts walking, eventually it’s gonna get to people.
There are at least two sides to every story
None of us could possibly have avoided hearing NATO’s side of the story and the reasons and justifications given for Gaddafi’s removal and how military intervention is necessary to protect Libyan citizens.
But are you sure you’ve heard both sides? Have you heard Gaddafi’s perspective on this issue? Or have you just heard “his side” as represented by the mainstream western media? If so I can start by telling you that his words, and the words of his son, Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi have been deliberately misinterpreted and edited out of context to create simple soundbite propaganda to influence people.
You will find that there is a completely different side of this story that is being completely ignored. It is not even being debated for it's merits, it simply is not talked about at all in the mainstream media.
Think about it. How much do you really know about Libya? Did you in all honesty know anything about the country before these events started unfolding? If I would have asked you back in February 10 questions about Libya and it’s affairs, how many do you think you would have answered correctly? And how much do you honestly know about what is going on there now?
I often find it intriguing how people tend to think they are qualified to give their view on things that in reality they know next to nothing about. They might have vague ideas generated by the mainstream media, biased textbooks and general pre-conceived notions, but not an actual thorough understanding of the country and it’s people and customs.
I had a discussion with a guy at a local bar the other day and I began the conversation by asking if he could tell me on what continent Libya was. Neither he nor his friend could answer correctly, picking Europe and Asia as their educated guesses. For some reason this guy still felt that his take on the situation was more accurate than mine, even as I told him I had been spending weeks investigating the matter. For those of you confused the correct answer is Africa.
I want to ask a simple question to make a simple case? Can you name me one current Libyan government official? You’re not allowed to say Gaddafi. Who holds the position of “Secretary of the General People’s Assembly” a position comparable to that of prime minister, although with a slightly different emphasis as he does not represent a political party and does not alone hold significant power. Did you even know that such a position exists in Libya and that he is elected by the people?
The less you know about something, the easier it is to deceive you.
My intention for exposing your potential and likely ignorance on this subject is not an attempt to show that I’m smarter or better than you. As I found out myself researching this article I knew remarkably little about Libya. And that is my point.
The mainstream media is focusing entirely on a set of news stories that have the specific intention of gathering support for military action and actively suppressing any story that would lead to people opposing it. This pattern will be exposed clearly as this article progresses.
It’s no wonder we don’t know much about Libya. Of course it gets confusing with all the different stories we hear of dictators and tyrants oversees. It is difficult to be an expert on all nations in the world. Just consider how many nations have existed and how long and rich each of their history is and how complex and

Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai, a medieval Sufi poet, is an iconic figure in the cultural history of Sindh. Bhitai’s Shah Ji Risalo is a remarkable collection of poems which are sung by many communities in Kachchh and across the border in Sindh (now in Pakistan). Many of the poems draw on the eternal love stories of Umar-Marui and Sasui-Punhu, among others. These songs speak of the pain of parting, of the inevitability of loss and of deep grief that takes one to unknown and mysterious terrains.
Umar Haji Suleiman of Abdasa, in Kachchh, Gujarat, is a self taught Sufi scholar; once a cattle herder, now a farmer, he lives his life through the poetry of Bhitai. Umar’s cousin, Mustafa Jatt sings the Bheths of Bhitai. He is accompanied on the Surando, by his cousin Usman Jatt. Usman is a truck driver, who owns and plays one of the last surviving Surandos in the region. The Surando is a peacock shaped, five-stringed instrument from Sindh. The film explores the life worlds of the three cousins, their families and the Fakirani Jat community to which they belong.
Before the Partition the Maldhari (pastoralist) Jatts moved freely across the Rann, between Sindh (now in Pakistan) and Kutch. As pastoral ways of living have given way to settlement, borders and industrialisation, the older generation struggles to keep alive the rich syncretic legacy of Shah Bhitai, that celebrates diversity and non-difference, suffering and transcendence, transience and survival. These marginal visions of negotiating difference in creative ways resist cultural politics based on tight notions of nation-state and national culture; they open up the windows of our national imaginary

Bhitai’s Shah Ji Risalo is a remarkable collection of poems which are sung by many communities in Kachchh and across the border in Sindh (now in Pakistan). Many of the poems draw on the eternal love stories of Umar-Marui and Sasui-Punhu, among others. These songs speak of the pain of parting, of the inevitability of loss and of deep grief that takes one to unknown and mysterious terrains.
Umar Haji Suleiman of Abdasa, in Kachchh, Gujarat, is a self taught Sufi scholar; once a cattle herder, now a farmer, he lives his life through the poetry of Bhitai. Umar’s cousin, Mustafa Jatt sings the Bheths of Bhitai. He is accompanied on the Surando, by his cousin Usman Jatt. Usman is a truck driver, who owns and plays one of the last surviving Surandos in the region. The Surando is a peacock shaped, five-stringed instrument from Sindh. The film explores the life worlds of the three cousins, their families and the Fakirani Jat community to which they belong.
Before the Partition the Maldhari (pastoralist) Jatts moved freely across the Rann, between Sindh (now in Pakistan) and Kutch. As pastoral ways of living have given way to settlement, borders and industrialisation, the older generation struggles to keep alive the rich syncretic legacy of Shah Bhitai, that celebrates diversity and non-difference, suffering and transcendence, transience and survival. These marginal visions of negotiating difference in creative ways resist cultural politics based on tight notions of nation-state and national culture; they open up the windows of our national imaginary

In part four of this study I wanted to take a break from the verse by verse format and discuss some of the common objections to the interpretation of Mystery Babylon being the eschatological city of Jerusalem, in other words, the Jerusalem that embraces the Antichrist in the end times.
I was planning on waiting until I got to the relevant verses to discuss the usual objections that come up, but some of these points don’t come up until very late in chapter 18, and I wanted to address these issues before that, and in a comprehensive manner.
Part of my goal here is to prevent anyone from not continuing in this verse by verse study because they think that I haven’t considered the best arguments against this theory .
The arguments I will be covering are as follows:
1. How can Mystery Babylon be the eschatological city of Jerusalem if it is said to be “found no more” in Rev 18:21 , and we know that Jerusalem is a big part of the millennial reign and the eternal kingdom.
2. When speaking of the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem Ezekiel 5:9 states: “And because of all your abominations I will do with you what I have never yet done, and the like of which I will never do again” Does this mean that Jerusalem will not be judged again?
3. Is there a future judgment of Jerusalem in scripture?
4. Is this anti-Semitic somehow?, How does this effect out views toward Israel if any.
One of the best arguments against the theory is rooted in the following verse:
And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all. – Rev 18:21
The argument is that Jerusalem can’t be Mystery Babylon because it says that it shall be found “no more at all” and we know that Jerusalem is in the millennial reign. We also see the so called “New Jerusalem” in the eternal kingdom. This is a very good argument, and it requires a very good answer. How can I say on one hand Jerusalem will be destroyed and be found no more and on the other hand say that it will be around forever.
The answer I believe lies in the last 8 chapters of the book of Ezekiel. There you will find one of the most intricate detailed building plans for the Israel of the millennium. It contains chapters and chapters of technical details regarding how Israel will be divided, about the new temple complex, and about Jerusalem and its surrounding areas.
To say it is different than what we currently know is a bit of an understatement.
There are those that have taken all the technical specifications of things like the division of the land in the millennial reign and plotted it all on a map. The twelve tribes of Israel are given parallel rectangular allotments of land, one on top of the other, from the north border of Israel to the south, and each tribe’s allotment extends the entire east / west border of Israel. It really helps to see this all on a map to visualize what I’m saying.
In the middle of these allotments of land is a rectangular portion that Ezekiel calls the “Holy Portion.” The priests and Levites that service the temple, equally divide this land, there is some debate as to where exactly the temple is in this section, some say it is in the middle of this land others say that it is just north of the city, but it doesn’t appear to actually be in the city itself which is very different in and of itself.
The city Jerusalem is also very different in the millennium, including most likely its physical location, which we will talk about in more detail later. For starters it is perfectly square; it is about 9 times larger than the old city of Jerusalem is today. It has twelve gates, 3 on each side, it sits on a high plateau , it has a two rivers that flow from it, the one on its east side flows to the dead sea, the one to its west flows all the way to the Mediterranean sea. It is a different place, in fact, the last words in the book of Ezekiel are used to give this Jerusalem a different name It says:
It was round about eighteen thousand measures: and the name of the city from that day shall be, The LORD is there. - Eze 48:35
This is sometimes transliterated YHWH Shammah which means the Lord is there.
The Temple regardless of where it resides is absolutely huge, and is a study in and of itself that you may find very fascinating, Including things like “No wall of partition to exclude Gentiles., and no veil in the holy of holies” I found it interesting that the Temple Institute, that is the Jewish people in Israel that are seeking to rebuild the temple said the following of this structure on their website templeinstitute.org:

Exhibition No. 1 presents two radically different
urban zones: the Dutch Flevo polders and the
peripheral residency areas of Kütahya in Turkey.
While these locations are in divergent territories
economically, politically and socially; ultimately
they share distinct characteristics binding them
together. Their landscapes are a perceived metaphor
for identity, social struggles and cultural
values to their inhabitants. Fundamentally each
creates zones of blankness but also possibilities
with insufficient and excessive planning.
Freedomland (Denis Guzzo, IT)
If anything, freedom is what you feel when first
confronted with the Dutch Flevo polders. Freedom
and perhaps a sense of being lost in space.
The low horizons, immense skies, and endless
perspectives are that of a desert landscape - albeit
with a human element. But how to interpret such
a unique landscape? How to settle and live there?
Freedomland is an ongoing documentary project
developed to capture a multiplicity of landscape
perceptions. It is a visual journey between forces
of order and space, landscape and urbanism,
authority and freedom.
Façades (MÜge yilmaz, IT/TR)
With a focus on the dwellings of Kütahya as a
catalyst for a partition between the private and
public sectors. Many constructions are placed
on fringe terrain waiting for expansion,
unfortunately they remain in this suspended
state indefinitely. These portraits of mute facades
underscores an urban planning epidemic.

Israel. The Chosen People and the Promised Land of scripture stand as testaments to the faithfulness of God’s promises. Despite having very limited natural resources, Israelis have developed thriving agricultural and industrial sectors in less than twenty years. Home to many historically and religiously significant Christian, Muslim, and Jewish sites, the capital city of Jerusalem has been conquered and reconquered for over 3,000 years, which has left the “Old City” quite divided. The capital is not the only partitioned area of Israel, though, as most of the nation still reflects an ancient and violent rift between the Palestinian and Jewish communities that has only deepened through the centuries.
Despite various attempts to reconcile differences and settle land partitions, nothing has stymied the aggression between Arabs and Jews. Each side of the issue views the other as the aggressor. Palestinians believe the Jews are unlawfully occupying their homeland, whereas the Jews feel the land they are taking is theirs despite being exiled for thousands of years. After multiple armed conflicts and nearly as many failed peace accords, resolution is still far from being reached. Due to the conflict, Palestinians within Israel are treated as second-class citizens. On top of the ethnic and religious disputes, cocaine, ecstasy, and heroin are increasingly trafficked from Jordan and Lebanon.
The Torah is viewed as both a historical record and religious law. Freedom of religion is a legal right, but is not always respected as Messianic Jews still struggle for political recognition. Christians are often harassed by conservative Jews and Muslims alike. Seventy-five percent of the population follows Judaism, with barely two percent Christian and the rest Muslim. Even in the face of animosity, the gospel is being spread and interest for the Word of God is increasing. The most powerful witness has been the testimony of Christian Jews as they are able to minister to their lost brothers and sisters in ways that the rest of the world cannot. As house churches grow, God’s grace is empowering and encouraging the evangelical leaders to spread the good news that Messiah has come and is coming back soon.
