ValueAct Capital is a San Francisco based investment company that manages more than $11 billion on behalf of several institutional and individual investors. The company is a privately owned head fund sponsor that provides its services to high net worth individuals and institutions. It invests in both the public equity and hedging markets.
ValueAct Capital was initially formed in June 2000 to manage the capital of its founders, along with the capital of a limited number of outside investors.
ValueAct Capital is a very active investor that identifies companies that appear to be out of favor, or may be undergoing a significant transition. ValueAct makes a significant investment into the company and then works with the company to make changes with goal of increasing long-term stock value and thus creating a profit for ValueAct.
In May of 2013 ValueAct Capital revealed that it had purchased $2 billion worth of Microsoft stock (less than 1%). Shortly there after the company made public announcements that it sought to join the board of Microsoft if the company did not increase its stock price through a stock buy back program or a larger dividend. The threat was seen as one of the reasons that Steve Ballmer decided to leave Microsoft.

The chief investment officer (CIO) is a job title for the board level head of investments within an organization. The CIO's purpose is to understand, manage, and monitor their organization's portfolio of assets, devise strategies for growth, act as the liaison with investors, and recognize and avoid serious risks, including those never before encountered.
According to a press release on October 22, 2008 the United States Treasury Department named James H. Lambright to serve as the interim Chief Investment Officer for the Troubled Asset Relief Program. "He will provide counsel to Secretary Henry M. Paulson, Jr. and Interim Assistant Secretary for the Office of Financial Stability Neel Kashkari as they develop and implement the program."
Whenever the role of the chief investment officer is active within an insurance company (either life or non-life) and/or pension fund, the role is to manage and coordinate the investment, liquidity (treasury) and/or asset liability management (ALM) in order to optimize investment performance within the risk appetite as defined by actuarial studies ('Asset Liability Management' (ALM)) of risk management guidelines. The role of a chief investment officer within a corporate pension organization is similar, although the end-goal for the chief investment officer is often not profit, but matching the organization's pension assets with its pension liabilities. Chief investment officers at endowments and foundations also consider the liabilities of the organization, with an added focus on liquidity and alternative assets.

In this video we introduce the Public Services (Social Value Act) – one of the aspects of government sector contract work which Apex Tenders can help your business with: https://www.apex-gs.uk/tenders/ The Act requires that authorities consider ways that proposals can improve the economic, social and environment wellbeing of an area. It also requires that they look at how social value can be added through the actual procurement process and delivery of the contract. If your business is bidding for public sector tender contracts, it is essential to consider how you can integrate added social value into the way you work; for example, by creating local skills development or employment opportunities, or providing return to work options for the long term unemployed. Look, Judge, Act Blessed Pope John XXIII gave us this practical suggestion in his letter Mater et magistra. The Social Doctrine provides us with principles for reflection, criteria for judgment, and directives for action. Social justice is supposed to be lived out in our every day. Hail me as the foe
Of light and day alike-
Hail me as the scourge
Of Gods and men that strive
For order in this world-
All hail Loki, the melevolent!
"In darkness I plot and scheme,
With the fiends of the abyss...
One day I shall be back,
To show the Aesir the power of the One,
The power of Loki, the malevolent!"
Hail me as the enemy
Of Odin's shining reign-
Hail me as the Lord
Of the abomination of frost!
My name is Loki
Leader of the ravenous host!
My day shall come,
And it shall dawn red-
Dyed with the gore
